First Teaser Trailer for Todd Haynes' Wonderful Film 'Wonderstruck'

    Wonderstruck Teaser Trailer

Meet Rose and Ben. Amazon Studios + Roadside Attractions have debuted the first teaser trailer for the new film from Todd Haynes, titled Wonderstruck, which premiered at the Cannes Film Festival earlier this summer. The film tells two different stories set 50 years apart, following two kids who venture into New York City. One of them is a deaf girl who escapes home and tries to find her mom. The other is a young deaf boy who escapes home in search of a room at the Natural History Museum. Millicent Simmonds stars as Rose, and Oakes Fegley (from Pete’s Dragon) stars as Ben. The full cast includes Julianne Moore, Cory Michael Smith, James Urbaniak, Damian Young, and Lauren Ridloff. It’s an inspiring film. I wrote in my Cannes review it’s “as much about the magic of New York City as it is about the magic of connection”. ›››

  • The Master Returns in First Trailer for 'Jigsaw' Arriving This October

The Master Returns in First Trailer for 'Jigsaw' Arriving This October

    Jigsaw Trailer

“You want mercy? Play by the rules.” Lionsgate has revealed the first trailer for the next Saw movie, titled simply Jigsaw, referring to the original mastermind behind all the deadly traps and torture. Even though he supposedly died in one of the earlier movies, this title and the new trailer makes me wonder if Jigsaw (played by Tobin Bell) is somehow back from the dead. The cast this time includes Laura Vandervoort, Callum Keith Rennie, Matt Passmore, Hannah Emily Anderson, Brittany Allen, and others. Even though we already had a 3D Saw recently, this one is supposedly taking Jigaw’s “signature brand of twisted scenarios to the next level.” This didn’t look so bad until the lasers on the head trap, then I rolled my eyes. ›››

Comic-Con 2017: Our First Look at Preview Night Showfloor Photos

    Comic-Con 2017

It is our tradition to kick off Comic-Con by walking the showfloor on preview night and taking photos of anything movie-related. This year, since Alex is not attending himself, the photos are coming from Marc Levy – a photographer working at Comic-Con. Our presence at Comic-Con has changed in the last few years (we’re taking a break after 10 years since Alex has relocated to Berlin) but it’s still always exciting to follow. To keep up with the tradition anyway, we present our initial gallery of shots from the showfloor at San Diego Comic-Con 2017 with photos taken by Marc exclusively for FS. There are tons of superheroes galore, as expected, along with Star Wars everywhere, and plenty of geeky goodies in every corner. Take a look below. ›››

  • First US Trailer for Egyptian Crime Thriller 'The Nile Hilton Incident'

First US Trailer for Egyptian Crime Thriller 'The Nile Hilton Incident'

    The Nile Hilton Incident Trailer

“Sir, I saw what happened at the Hilton.” Strand Releasing has debuted the first official trailer for Tarik Saleh’s The Nile Hilton Incident, an intense political thriller set against the back drop of the Egyptian Revolution. This premiered at the Sundance Film Festival earlier this year, and the film won the top Grand Jury Prize in the World Cinema Dramatic competition during the festival. The story is about a police office investigating the murder of a woman at the Hilton hotel, who discovers there’s much more going on than it seems. The cast features Fares Fares, Mari Malek, Yasser Ali Maher, Slimane Dazi, Ahmed Selim, Mohamed Yousry, and Hania Amar. This seems like it has the vibe of an old school noir mystery, but with modern sensibilities and context. The film looks like it’s definitely worth catching in theaters this year. ›››

First Trailer for Korean Action Film 'The Villainess' Starring Ok-bin Kim

    The Villainess Trailer

“Let me show you what you made me into.” Well Go USA has released the first official trailer for an action film from Korea titled The Villainess, which premiered out-of-competition at the Cannes Film Festival earlier this summer. I heard some rave reviews of this and I definitely want to check it out. Ok-bin Kim stars as Sook-hee, a trained assassin who tries to become a stage actress after giving 10 years of service as an assassin. But her dark past comes creeping back and she must take things into her own hands to finish her work and be free once and for all. The full cast includes Eun-ji Jo, Seo-hyung Kim, Ha-kyun Shin, and Jun Sung. One review from Cannes says that its “dynamically staged, blood-drenched action sequences are a highlight.” Based on all the buzz and footage from this trailer, I’m very excited to see this film. Take a look. ›››

  • Official Trailer for 'May It Last: A Portrait of the Avett Brothers' Doc

Official Trailer for 'May It Last: A Portrait of the Avett Brothers' Doc

May It Last: A Portrait of the Avett Brothers

“We are kind of at a crossroads…” Oscilloscope Labs has debuted the official trailer for the documentary May It Last: A Portrait of the Avett Brothers, which is exactly what it says – a “portrait” of the band known as the Avett Brothers, from North Carolina. The film is an Apatow Production in association with RadicalMedia and HBO Documentary Films; co-directed by fans Judd Apatow and Michael Bonfiglio. For those who haven’t listened to them, The Avett Brothers combine bluegrass, country, punk, pop melodies, folk, rock and roll, indie rock, honky tonk, and ragtime to produce a novel sound. This documentary is more than just a music doc, described as “a meditation on family, love, and the passage of time.” This looks great, and I admit I’m even more intrigued because Apatow is co-directing it. I want to see what they’re all about. ›››

  • The Boys are Back in Second Trailer for 'Kingsman: The Golden Circle'

The Boys are Back in Second Trailer for 'Kingsman: The Golden Circle'

    Kingsman: The Golden Circle Trailer

“As your American cousins, we’ll be working side-by-side.” 20th Century Fox has released a second trailer for the sequel Kingsman: The Golden Circle, once again directed by Matthew Vaughn, bringing back Taron Egerton as the British superspy known as “Eggsy”. This trailer is being debuted in time for Comic-Con in San Diego and is wild red band trailer to boot. Colin Firth also returns as Harry Hart, with Mark Strong as Merlin, and a cast featuring Channing Tatum, Pedro Pascal, Jeff Bridges, Halle Berry, Julianne Moore, Vinnie Jones, as well as Hanna Alström, and Sophie Cookson. This sequel seems to be a big riff on America as the British spies head over there to kick some butt and save the world. So far this looks fantatic, and I’m hoping it’s as good as this trailer looks, because hot damn. Some badass action. ›››

  • First Trailer for Kosinski's 'Only the Brave' About Wildfire Firefighters

First Trailer for Kosinski's 'Only the Brave' About Wildfire Firefighters

    Only the Brave Trailer

“It was the most beautiful and terrible thing I’ve ever seen.” Sony Pictures has finally revealed a trailer for a movie called Only the Brave, telling the true story of the Granite Mountain Hotshots. This was formerly titled Granite Mountain and then Granite Mountain Hotshots before they switched to Only the Brave. Directed by Tron Legacy’s Joe Kosinski, Only the Brave is about an elite crew of firemen from Prescott, Arizona who battled a wildfire in Yarnell, AZ in June of 2013 that claimed the lives of 19 of their members. The huge cast includes Josh Brolin, Miles Teller, Jeff Bridges, James Badge Dale, Geoff Stults, Andie MacDowell, Ben Hardy, Taylor Kitsch, and Jennifer Connelly. This surprisingly looks pretty good, better than I was expecting. There seems to be an emotional side to it, along with the threat of the fire. ›››

  • First Full Trailer for Guillermo del Toro's New Film 'The Shape of Water'

First Full Trailer for Guillermo del Toro's New Film 'The Shape of Water'

    The Shape of Water Trailer

“This creature is intelligent… capable of understanding emotions.” Fox Searchlight has revealed the first official trailer for Guillermo del Toro’s new film, titled The Shape of Water. This fairy tale romance set in the 1960s at a secret government laboratory stars Sally Hawkins as a lonely, mute woman who discovers a classified “experiment” and falls in love with him. Doug Jones co-stars as the creature, which makes me think you could almost call this a Hellboy prequel about Abe Sapien specifically. It kind of has that vibe. The excellent cast includes Michael Shannon, Michael Stuhlbarg, Octavia Spencer, Richard Jenkins, Lauren Lee Smith, and John Kapelos. This looks really wonderful – it has that iconic Guillermo del Toro design to it, along with a nice mix of feelings ranging from mystery to romance to drama. I’m sold already. ›››
