First Trailer for 'Flatliners' Remake Featuring Diego Luna & Ellen Page

    Flatliners Remake Trailer

“It’s a good day to die!” Sony Pictures has unveiled the first official trailer for the remake of Flatliners, the movie about medical students who temporarily stop their hearts in order to experience the afterlife. The original film was directed by Joel Schumacher and opened in 1990, sort of becoming a cult classic over the years. This new film is directed by Danish filmmaker Niels Arden Oplev, of the original The Girl with a Dragon Tattoo, and seems to be more horror than suspense. The cast of this new Flatliners includes Ellen Page, Diego Luna, Nina Dobrev, James Norton, and Kiersey Clemons. So this seems to have a few nods to Jacob’s Ladder or even Final Destination, which is an interesting twist. Hopefully it turns out okay. ›››

POV Found Footage Alien Horror 'The Gracefield Incident' First Trailer

    The Gracefield Incident Trailer

“Some things can’t be unseen.” Holy crap this looks freaky. An official trailer has debuted for a freaky new alien horror movie titled The Gracefield Incident. This is yet another found footage movie, but the twist is that one guy implants a camera into his eye in order to give us a proper POV view. He does this to capture footage of a weekend getaway with friends to a cabin in the mountains. But one night a meteor crashes down and things get scary when giant alien creatures start tormenting them. Starring Mathieu Ratthe (who also wrote/directed the film), Kimberly Laferriere, Victor Andres Turgeon-Trelles, Juliette Gosselin, Alexandre Nachi, and Laurence Dauphinais. Aliens seriously freak me out, and this looks totally nuts. ›››

How Warner Bros/DC Can Learn From the Success of 'Wonder Woman'

    Wonder Woman

Well, Warner Bros can breathe a sigh of relief. Wonder Woman is a resounding success. The Gal Gadot-starring, Patty Jenkins-directed film made history by making $100 million in its opening weekend, the biggest opening for any woman-directed movie. The reviews have been glowing, and audience reception seems overwhelmingly positive. Wonder Woman is a bona fide hit for the studio, a home run that Warner Bros certainly needed. With the first well-received DCEU movie under their utility belts, all masked heads are turned to the next DCEU offering, Justice League, opening in November. Let’s look at how Warner Bros can learn from the success of Wonder Woman as they take the next big leap in their cinematic universe. ›››

Extended 'Fan's Guide' Featurette Examines 'Spider-Man: Homecoming'

    Spider-Man: Homecoming Featurette

“You have 576 possible webshooter combinations.” Sony has released a boatload of marketing material for Spider-Man: Homecoming, with release less than a month away. The most important new promo is a 22 minute “Fan’s Guide” featurette. It aired on Disney XD and is aimed at younger viewers, but still has lots of cool behind-the-scenes footage and details about the new Spidey movie. There’s another featurette on the new Spidey suit (that Tony Stark helped build) and a fun TV spot, plus a few posters below. Tom Holland stars as Peter Parker, and the cast includes Marisa Tomei as Aunt May, Jon Favreau as Happy, Michael Keaton as Vulture, Donald Glover, Robert Downey Jr., Martin Starr, Logan Marshall-Green, Angourie Rice, Hannibal Buress, and Zendaya. I actually have high hopes for this, it looks damn good. ›››

  • Nikolaj Coster-Waldau in First Trailer for LA Crime Thriller 'Shot Caller'

Nikolaj Coster-Waldau in First Trailer for LA Crime Thriller 'Shot Caller'

    Shot Caller Trailer

“The fact is – a place like this forces us to become warriors or victims.” Saban Films has revealed an official trailer for a crime thriller titled Shot Caller, from writer/director Ric Roman Waugh. The film tells the story of a family man who gets thrown in prison after a car accident. There he becomes a member of a prison gang in order to survive, and upon release is forced to orchestrate a major crime with a brutal rival gang on the streets of Southern California. Starring Nikolaj Coster-Waldau as Jacob, with a cast including Lake Bell, Emory Cohen, Jon Bernthal, Jeffrey Donovan, Benjamin Bratt, and Holt McCallany. This definitely looks like a brutal crime drama, but doesn’t seem to stand out in any unique way. Give it a watch. ›››

  • Halle Berry Goes Berserk in Intense New Trailer for 'Kidnap' Thriller

Halle Berry Goes Berserk in Intense New Trailer for 'Kidnap' Thriller

    Kidnap Trailer

“As long as my son is in that car, I will not stop! Wherever you go, I will be right behind you!” Another new trailer has debuted for the kidnapping action thriller titled Kidnap. The film stars Halle Berry as a passionate mother who stops at nothing to recover her kidnapped son. This movie was originally supposed to open last December, but got pushed back with the Relativity fiasco. Now it’s finally opening in August of this year for those still curious. This new trailer is a rehash of the first trailer with most of the same footage, but different edits. Also starring Sage Correa, Lew Temple, Dana Gourrier, Christopher Berry, and Chris McGinn. I like the intensity of these trailers, it’s a good sell, I just hope the movie is worth the wait. ›››

    Detroit Movie TV Spot

“I’m just gunna assume you’re all criminals.” Annapurna has debuted the first quick TV spot for Kathryn Bigelow’s next film titled Detroit, about the Detroit Riots in 1967. The film features an ensemble cast of characters to tell the story of why so many citizens decided to rise up, and how the riot expanded so quickly to become so massive that the President had to send in federal troops to get things under control. The huge ensemble cast includes John Boyega, Jack Reynor, Will Poulter, Ben O’Toole, Hannah Murray, Anthony Mackie, Jacob Latimore, Algee Smith, Joseph David-Jones, Kaitlyn Dever, Jason Mitchell, John Krasinski, Jeremy Strong, and Laz Alonso. This is a nice follow-up to the first trailer, I just hope they show more footage soon that impresses, as this isn’t doing much for me so far. Take a look. ›››

  • Review: 'The Mummy' is a Messy, Entertaining Start to a Dark Universe

Review: 'The Mummy' is a Messy, Entertaining Start to a Dark Universe

    The Mummy Review

The goal for many studios used to be the franchise, a series of films under the umbrella of a recognizable name with which to sell that franchise. Now, thanks in large part to the success Marvel is having, that concept of the franchise has morphed into a “cinematic universe” with any number of “franchises” coming together in a shared series of narratives to create something much larger. Some of these cinematic universes come together naturally over time, but some are forced together in order for the studio at hand to bank on an entire slate of motion picture releases. The latter tends to come off as just that, forced, and this is the area in which Universal and their idea for a “Dark Universe” seems to be residing. Their idea is to bring their classic movie monsters (Dracula, Frankenstein’s Monsters, Invisible Man, et al.) into the modern age to create an epic series of films beginning with the catalyst for their cinematic universe, The Mummy. ›››

One More Gorgeous Trailer for Anime 'Mary and the Witch's Flower'

Mary and the Witch's Flower Trailer

“That power will change the world.” Studio Ponoc has revealed another new full-length trailer for their animated adventure film Mary and the Witch’s Flower, opening in Japan this July. Studio Ponoc is the spiritual successor to Ghibli started by a bunch of former Ghibli animators. You can definitely see how this looks/feels very much like a Ghibli movie, which I think is a good thing. The best way to describe it might be a mashup of The Secret World of Arrietty and Castle in the Sky, but this is still has its own unique story about a girl who discovers a broomstick and goes to a witches school only to learn that the animals are being kept in cages. Directed by Hiromasa Yonebayashi, with music by Takatsugu Muramatsu, based on “The Little Broomstick“. All these trailers are for the Japanese release, since there still isn’t a US release set yet. ›››
