    Ready Player One Teaser Trailer

“There’s nowhere left to go… Nowhere, except the Oasis.” Warner Bros has debuted the first teaser trailer for Steven Spielberg’s adaptation of Ready Player One, the geeky novel about a kid in the future who logs into a virtual reality world and plays games to win the ultimate prize. I’m so excited to finally see something from this, and I still can’t believe Spielberg is actually directing. Young actor Tye Sheridan stars as Wade Watts, known in the gaming world as Parzival. The cast includes Mark Rylance as the game’s creator, James Halliday, as well as T.J. Miller, Ben Mendelsohn, Simon Pegg, Olivia Cooke, Lena Waithe, Letitia Wright, and Kae Alexander. There’s some great references to The Iron Giant, Back to the Future, and E.T. of course, and this is only just the first tease. Dang I’m hyped for this!! Very excited to see more. ›››

Review: Nolan's 'Dunkirk' is as Riveting as it is Groundbreaking

    Dunkirk Review

When it comes to telling a story about war, the filmmaking game has been hitting many of the same strides for a couple of decades now. Ever since 1998’s Saving Private Ryan and the opening scene set on Omaha Beach, war movies, especially those set during World War II, have been satisfied retreading that same water, rolling with similar tides, giving us much of what we’ve already seen before. It takes a true craftsman in the game to deliver something fresh but still maintain a sense of scope, compassion, and intensity. That craftsman, apparently, is Christopher Nolan, who has been reshaping genres and defying expectations since his 2000 thriller, Memento, floored audiences with its disjointed structure. Nolan is the craftsman, and Dunkirk, a WWII movie unlike any seen or experienced before, is the stunning result of his craft. ›››

    Blade Runner 2049 Experience

“The key to the future is finally unearthed. Bring it to me.” We’re only a few months from experiencing Blade Runner 2049 on the big screen, but Warner Bros has already invited us into the future at Comic-Con this year. Remember the incredible Tron Legacy experience at Comic-Con years ago, featuring a full-sized Flynn’s Aracde built inside a warehouse downtown? Well, Warner Bros has topped that with a massive off-site experience at Comic-Con this year for Denis Villeneuve’s Blade Runner 2049 and it’s one of the best things that has ever come to Comic-Con. It begins with a look at concept art, continues with a VR experience in one of the flying cars, then takes us directly to the streets of the future. Take a look at our photos below. ›››

New Comic-Con Trailer + Poster for WAG's 'The LEGO Ninjago Movie'

    The LEGO Ninjago Movie Trailer

“A true ninja knows when to fight, and when to blend in the shadows.” With Comic-Con underway, Warner Bros has debuted another new trailer for The LEGO Ninjago Movie at the comic book convention in San Diego. This latest LEGO Movie from Warner Animation Group, arriving in theaters this fall, tells the story of six young ninjas who must go back to their ninjas root to defend their island called Ninjago. Jackie Chan voices Sensei Wu, their master and ninja teacher. The rest of the main voice cast includes Olivia Munn, Dave Franco, Michael Peña, Abbi Jacobson, Zach Woods, Kumail Nanjiani, Fred Armisen, and Justin Theroux as the evil Garmadon. This looks as good as the previous two LEGO movies, with as much humor and action and wacky, fun quirks thrown in – like the cat at the end of the trailer. I’m down for this. ›››

Full Trailer for Tribal Battle Action Film 'The Veil' Starring William Levy

    The Veil Movie Trailer

“When I was young, I fought to survive. But with time, everything changed…” Vertical Entertainment has debuted a trailer for an action film titled The Veil, set in a “war-torn land where tribal factions live in fear of annihilation.” Cuban actor William Levy stars as a deadly warrior who is betrayed and left for dead by his own tribe. He is healed by a mysterious princess and taken in by a secret tribe, only to go back and wage war against his own people. This seems like one of those cliche “tribal battle” movies that doesn’t have much to offer. The cast includes Serinda Swan, William Moseley, Nick Tarabay, Adam Gregory, and Billy Blair. I don’t feel like anyone actually watches these kind of action movies anymore, but what do I know? ›››

  • Review: Luc Besson's 'Valerian' Wastes Visual Splendor on So-So Storytelling

Review: Luc Besson's 'Valerian' Wastes Visual Splendor on So-So Storytelling

    Valerian Review

Written and directed by Luc Besson (of Léon: The Professional, La Femme Nikita, and Lucy), Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets is based on the Valérian and Laureline graphic novel series by writer Pierre Christin and artist Jean-Claude Mézières. First published in 1967 in the French comics magazine, Pilote, the seminal science fiction series paved the way for Heavy Metal, and informed George Lucas’ Star Wars and Besson’s 1997 film, The Fifth Element, for which Mézières contributed concept art. The live-action adaptation, independently crowd-sourced and personally funded by Besson, is supposedly now the most expensive independent film ever made, but does it live up to its influential source material? ›››

Trailer for World Trade Center Drama '9/11' Directed by Martin Guigui

    9/11 Movie Trailer

“I need you to try to get the hell out of that elevator.” Atlas Distribution has premiered a trailer for a new drama titled 9/11, telling the story of five people trapped inside an elevator in the World Trade Center’s North Tower on 9/11. They work together, never giving up hope, to try and find a way out safely. It’s only been 16 years, but I guess we’ve reached a point where movies can literally use the 9/11 date as their title when telling a story centered around this horrific moment. The ensemble cast of this film includes Charlie Sheen, Whoopi Goldberg, Luis Guzman, Gina Gershon, Wood Harris, Jacqueline Bisset, Olga Fonda and Bruce Davison. It’s directed by Martin Guigui, the same guy who made the unofficial Raging Bull sequel The Bronx Bull. The final shot in this trailer is totally crazy, and potentially a spoiler? Watch out. ›››

  • Will Smith in Full Trailer for David Ayer's Fantasy Action Movie 'Bright'

Will Smith in Full Trailer for David Ayer's Fantasy Action Movie 'Bright'

    Bright Movie Trailer

“All of the races are different. Just because they’re different doesn’t mean anybody’s better or worse than anybody.” Netflix has launched the full-length trailer for David Ayer’s fascinating new film Bright – which is a Netflix Original production, starring Will Smith, set in a different world where other creatures like orcs and elves co-exist with humans. It’s also a bit like Training Day, it seems, because Smith plays a cop assigned a partner who’s an orc and he just doesn’t like him. Joel Edgerton co-stars under the make-up as “Nick Jakoby”, and the full cast includes Noomi Rapace, Kenneth Choi, Brad William Henke, Lucy Fry, Edgar Ramírez, Ike Barinholtz, Brandon Larracuente, and Dawn Olivieri. So this actually looks surprisingly damn good, I’m serious. The first half of this trailer starts a bit slow, but when everything kicks in mid-way through – wow. I’m seriously impressed. I really want to see this movie. What about you? ›››

Official Trailer for Documentary on 'Kim Dotcom: Caught in the Web'

Kim Dotcom: Caught in the Web

“You don’t do a raid like this and get away with it.” Gravitas Ventures has debuted the first official trailer for a documentary titled Kim Dotcom: Caught in the Web, telling the story of the controversial internet maven known as “Kim Dotcom”. He is the founder of MegaUpload, and is being pursued for copyright infringement and money laundering in the United States. Born under the name Kim Schmitz in Germany, Dotcom now lives in New Zealand, hiding out there to prevent from being extradited. The documentary tells the story of the “Most Wanted Man Online”, directed by New Zealand doc filmmaker Annie Goldson. As the quotes say, this does look fascinating and important and powerful. I’m always very curious about docs about the internet, because there’s so much to explore and to examine. This is a short trailer, but I’m already sold. ›››
