This Breaks the World: Trailer #3 for Villeneuve's 'Blade Runner 2049'

    Blade Runner 2049 Trailer #3

“Replicants are the future, but I can only make so many.” Warner Bros has revealed the third trailer for Denis Villeneuve’s Blade Runner 2049, the highly anticipated sequel to the seminal sci-fi classic Blade Runner from 1982. The second trailer was already incredible, but this one is even better, if you can believe it. This movie is now my *most* anticipated left in 2017. This direct sequel takes place 30 years after the original, and stars Ryan Gosling as the new LAPD Officer who must find Deckard, who has been missing all this time. Harrison Ford returns to play Deckard, and the new cast of 2049 includes Ana de Armas, Jared Leto, Dave Bautista, Mackenzie Davis, Robin Wright, Barkhad Abdi, Lennie James, and David Dastmalchian. Everything about this looks amazing – the score, the visuals, performances. Chills. ›››

Legendary Horror Filmmaker George A. Romero Has Died at Age 77

    George A. Romero

Oh no, we’ve lost a real legend. American filmmaker George A. Romero has died at age 77, as confirmed by LA Times. Romero is best known as the originator of the modern zombie movie, as the director of the original B&W zombie feature film Night of the Living Dead from 1968, as well as numerous other zombie sequels and films and series in the last 50 years. Romero died in his sleep at his home in Los Angeles with his family after a battle with lung cancer. The last film he directed was the 2009 zombie flick Survival of the Dead, and he was also involved in producing Road of the Dead and the Deadtime Stories series. Sad news. ›››

  • Go Behind-the-Scenes in New Featurette for 'Star Wars: The Last Jedi'

Go Behind-the-Scenes in New Featurette for 'Star Wars: The Last Jedi'

    Star Wars: The Last Jedi

“I’m hoping it’ll be a little shocking. But I’m hoping it will feel real and honest.” Lucasfilm has dropped a brand new behind-the-scenes featurette for Star Wars: The Last Jedi at their D23 Expo presentation this weekend. Like the behind-the-scenes featurette for The Force Awakens, this includes a whole bunch of new footage and looks at various characters/aliens/scenes we haven’t seen anything about yet. And oh my goodness does it look magnificent. I can’t wait!! Daisy Ridley returns as Rey, with John Boyega, Adam Driver, Oscar Isaac, Mark Hamill, Carrie Fisher, Gwendoline Christie, Domhnall Gleeson, Lupita Nyong’o, Peter Mayhew, Andy Serkis, and Warwick Davis. Newcomers include Benicio Del Toro, Laura Dern, and others. There’s so many questions I have after watching this. But that’s the point – it’s an exhilarating tease that will keep our interests piqued while we wait until release. Fire this up below. ›››

Review: The Awesome 'War for the Planet of the Apes' Concludes an Impressive Trilogy

War for the Planet of the Apes Review

The Planet of the Apes series is as inevitable to the world of science fiction film as laws of nature are to the actual world. There will always be a continuation to the franchise that began in 1968 and instantly turned sci-fi on its ear. So, too, is the inevitability of the new trilogy of films that serves as precursor to that original franchise, first in 2011 with Rise of the Planet of the Apes and again in 2014 with Dawn of the Planet of the Apes. Completing this trilogy is War for the Planet of the Apes, a film that delivers on all aspects to that title with absolute precision and then some. Under direction by Dawn director Matt Reeves and aided by a stunning, motion-capture performance by Andy Serkis, War is an emotionally charged and impressively executed culmination of this reboot that will likely go down as memorably as that original, sci-fi classic. ›››

Interview: Matt Reeves on Directing 'War for the Planet of the Apes'

    Matt Reeves Interview

“We pitched that movie. I pitched it to the studio. And they said yes.” It’s here – one of the best movies of the year. War for the Planet of the Apes is now playing in theaters, and it’s a masterpiece. I’ve seen it twice already and it gets better on the second viewing. Andy Serkis is extraordinary as Caesar, concluding this sci-fi trilogy with one of the best performances you’ll see in any movie this year. War for the Planet of the Apes and the film before it, Dawn of the Planet of the Apes, were both directed by Matt Reeves. Reeves broke in directing Cloverfield, and followed that up with a remake of Let the Right One In titled Let Me In. I was anxious to talk with him for this movie, it was one of my most anticipated of the year and surpassed all expectations. I was able to catch up with Matt briefly on his press tour and chat about making these movies. ›››

  • Marlon Wayans in First Trailer for Time Loop Film 'Naked' from Netflix

Marlon Wayans in First Trailer for Time Loop Film 'Naked' from Netflix

    Naked Trailer

“I’m freakin’ out!” Netflix has unveiled a trailer for a goofy comedy titled Naked, another new time loop film (in addition to two others this year alone – Before I Fall and Happy Death Day). From the director of the parody comedy A Haunted House, Marlon Wayans stars in Naked as a guy about to be married, who ignores his responsibilities and spends the night before the wedding partying with a friend. He wakes up naked in an elevator and must relive the next hour until he gets things right on his wedding day. Yeah, what a unique concept. The full ensemble cast features Regina Hall, Dennis Haysbert, Scott Foley, Loretta Devine, Neil Brown Jr., Dave Sheridan, Megan Messmer, Jonathan Todd Jackson, and Cory Hardrict. As much as I usually enjoy time loop films, this one looks pretty bad. Doubt I’ll be watching this. ›››

  • Full Trailer for 'The Incredible Jessica James' Starring Jessica Williams

Full Trailer for 'The Incredible Jessica James' Starring Jessica Williams

    The Incredible Jessica James

“Jessica – I really like you.” “Of course you do! Everybody does. I’m friggin dope!” Netflix has debuted the full-length trailer for The Incredible Jessica James, the latest film from talented indie filmmaker Jim Strouse (of Grace Is Gone, The Winning Season, People Places Things – all three are great films). This upbeat indie comedy stars Jessica Williams from “The Daily Show” in a major breakout role as Jessica James, an aspiring playwright living in New York City struggling with the dating scene and the career scene. She meets a goofball guy that she slowly starts to fall for, played by Chris O’Dowd. Also starring Lakeith Stanfield, Noël Wells, Megan Ketch, and Zabryna Guevara. I saw this film at its Sundance premiere and it’s wonderful, not only a fantastic performance from Jessica Williams, but an optimistic, light-hearted, enjoyable film to put you in a good mood. Just see it. Swipe Right To Meet…. The Incredible Jessica James! ›››

Trailer for Michael Almereyda's 'Escapes' Doc About Hampton Fancher

    Escapes Doc Trailer

“He’s asking you to walk through the front door and you’re saying, ‘No’?” Grasshopper Film has debuted a trailer for a documentary called Escapes, profiling the life and times of one Hampton Fancher. You may not recognize the name at first, but you will after learning this – Fancher was the original screenwriter on Blade Runner, and also helped write the story for Blade Runner 2049. But this is not his only claim to fame – Fancher is also a flamenco dancer, actor, and producer, and shares many stores in this doc: “romantic misadventures with silver-screen stars, wayward acts of chivalry, jealousy, and friendship.” Not only does it give us an inside look at Hollywood life and the various happenings that lead to big moments, but it’s also a fascinating look at the life of one man who can’t really be defined. The film is executive produced by Wes Anderson, and directed by Michael Almereyda, who also made the feature Marjorie Prime this year. Dive in. ›››

  • First Official Trailer for Brooklyn-Based Indie Action Movie 'Bushwick'

First Official Trailer for Brooklyn-Based Indie Action Movie 'Bushwick'

    Bushwick Trailer

“Some people know better than to stick around in a war zone?!” RLJ has unveiled an official trailer for the action film Bushwick, a very low budget project that first premiered at the Sundance Film Festival in the Midnight category this year. This has a cool concept – it plays out as one single shot following a woman, Brittany Snow, who emerges from the subway in Brooklyn, NYC to discover the city is being invaded by the military. The backstory is that Texas is seceding from the US, and NYC is under attack. She runs around trying to get home and befriends Dave Bautista. The cast includes Christian Navarro, Arturo Castro, Jeremie Harris, and Jeff Lima. As cool as this may seem, it’s actually a terrible film. I saw it at Sundance and hated it, does not live up to expectations at all. I suggest skipping this, it’s really not worth your time. ›››
