New International Trailer for Niels Arden Oplev's 'Flatliners' Remake

    Flatliners Remake Trailer

“It’s like her brain’s been rewired!” Sony has debuted another new international trailer for the remake of Flatliners, the movie about medical students who temporarily stop their hearts in order to experience the afterlife. This new film is directed by Danish filmmaker Niels Arden Oplev, of the original The Girl with a Dragon Tattoo movie, and seems to be more horror than suspense. The cast of this new Flatliners includes Ellen Page, Diego Luna, Nina Dobrev, James Norton, and Kiersey Clemons. The original film was directed by Joel Schumacher and was released in 1990, but hasn’t aged well over the years though it does still have a following. This new Flatliners plays more like a horror similar to Jacob’s Ladder than a drama or spiritual thriller, but still looks intriguing. I’m honestly curious about seeing this, maybe it will be good. ›››

First Trailer for Clooney's 'Suburbicon' with Matt Damon & Oscar Isaac

    Suburbicon Trailer

“Nothing like this ever happened here.” Paramount has revealed the first official trailer for Suburbicon, a new dark comedy written and directed by George Clooney. This film was just announced this week as a big premiere at both the Venice and Toronto Film Festivals coming up this fall. The film is set in 1959 in a “peaceful, idyllic suburban community” that is rattled by a home invasion which then begins to reveal the town’s “dark underbelly of betrayal, deceit, and violence”. Starring Matt Damon, Julianne Moore, Noah Jupe, Megan Ferguson, Jack Conley, and Oscar Isaac. This looks totally wild and wacky, like an even darker and crazier Coen Brothers movie (who co-wrote the script so that makes sense). I’m so down for this. ›››

  • Official Trailer for Award Winning Documentary on Police – 'The Force'

Official Trailer for Award Winning Documentary on Police – 'The Force'

    The Force Trailer

“I don’t want bad cops here, period.” Kino Lorber has revealed the first official trailer for the documentary titled The Force, examining the police crisis in America at the moment. The film actually focuses on the police themselves, going inside an “embattled urban police department struggling to rebuild trust in one of America’s most violent yet promising cities.” The police they’re profiling is the Oakland Police Department, and the storyline in the doc follows three different threads – one about the young police chief, another about new recruits in the Academy, and another about officers in the field facing increased hostility. The Force won Best Director at the Sundance Film Festival, and won Best Bay Area Documentary at the San Francisco Film Festival. This is an excellent trailer for a doc, really pulls you in and makes you feel for what’s at stake. ›››

  • Jon Hamm & Lois Smith in Full Trailer for Subtle Sci-Fi 'Marjorie Prime'

Jon Hamm & Lois Smith in Full Trailer for Subtle Sci-Fi 'Marjorie Prime'

    Marjorie Prime Trailer

“She’s nicer to that thing than she is to me.” FilmRise has unveiled an official trailer for the film Marjorie Prime, the latest feature by filmmaker Michael Almereyda, which premiered at Sundance. This subtle sci-fi film is set in the near future in a time where intelligent AI can recreate a perfect holographic version of a deceased person. The story involves a family figuring out what to make of these lifelike recreations of people who aren’t around anymore. It’s a meditation on “memory and identity, love and loss.” Jon Hamm stars, with Geena Davis, Tim Robbins, Stephanie Andujar, Hannah Gross, and Lois Smith as Marjorie. This seems like a cool concept, but unfortunately never lives up to its potential, and it’s a very dull film. I saw this at Sundance and wanted to like it, but there’s just not much to like about it. But that’s only my take. ›››

  • First Trailer for Joachim Trier's Super Powers Romance Film 'Thelma'

First Trailer for Joachim Trier's Super Powers Romance Film 'Thelma'

    Thelma Trailer

Meet Thelma. An international teaser trailer has debuted online for the new film from Danish filmmaker Joachim Trier (of Oslo August 31st, and Louder Than Bombs). Titled Thelma, the film tells the story of a young woman who moves to Oslo and begins to fall in love with another woman, discovering that she also has fantastic, terrifying “super” powers. Starring Eili Harboe as Thelma, as well as Okay Kaya, Ellen Dorrit Petersen, and Henrik Rafaelsen. This will premiere first at the Norwegian International Film Festival in August, and will also play at the Toronto Film Festival this fall. I’m very intrigued, it looks like Trier (and co-writer Eskil Vogt) are trying to mix up the typical “super powers” story and give us something more frightening than exciting. The footage in the second half of this trailer is wild, they have my attention. ›››

  • Official Trailer for New Horror Film 'Temple' Written by Simon Barrett

Official Trailer for New Horror Film 'Temple' Written by Simon Barrett

    Temple Trailer

“This temple, it will make you sick.” Screen Media Films has debuted the official trailer for the horror film titled Temple, directed by Michael Barrett, from a screenplay originally written by Simon Barrett (of You’re Next, The Guest, Blair Witch) along with fellow horror filmmaker JT Petty. The film is supposedly an homage to Japanese horror as it follows a group of Americans visiting Japan who decide to stay overnight at a haunted temple. Of course, they end up discovering this was a bad idea despite warnings from locals. The film stars Logan Huffman, Brandon Tyler Sklenar, and Natalia Warner. Oddly, screenwriter Simon Barrett has kind of disowned the film, explaining in an article on Medium, “I don’t know what that project is any more than you do.” Now that we have some footage does it look any good? Not really. Take a look below. ›››

Chadwick Boseman in Official US Trailer for 'Message from the King'

    Message from the King

“Whoever you work for, get him! This was a Message from the King.” Don’t mess with Chadwick Boseman! Netflix has released a new official US trailer for the hardcore action thriller Message from the King, starring American actor Chadwick Boseman as a mysterious badass who comes to Los Angeles to find his sister. “His pursuit of revenge will lay bare a network of depravity that stretches from the dive-bars of the gang heartlands to the glitz of the Hills.” The entire cast includes Teresa Palmer, Luke Evans, Alfred Molina, Tom Felton, and Sibongile Mlambo. This kind of looks like a cool mashup of Taken plus John Wick, with Boseman kicking some serious ass while seeking revenge for his sister. Yes, yet another revenge movie, but at least it’s not the typical version of this kind of story. Or maybe it is? I’m still interested. Enjoy. ›››

The classic sci-fi film first hit theaters in December of 1977, two years after Jaws. • James Franco in First Trailer for Bank Robbery Horror Film 'The Vault'

    The Vault Trailer

“There’s people down here!” What the heck is in the vault? FilmRise has debuted an official trailer for a film called The Vault, a bank robbery heist thriller that actually turns into some kind of weird horror film. The film stars Taryn Manning and Francesca Eastwood as two estranged sisters who must rob a bank in order to save their brother. But down in the vault, they discover something “truly evil” because “this is no ordinary bank.” Uh oh. The cast includes James Franco, Scott Haze, Q’orianka Kilcher, Jeff Gum, and Clifton Collins Jr. This looks pretty weird, and not in a good way. Not sure I’ve ever heard of a bank heist horror movie before, but perhaps that is why they decided to make this. Check it out if you’re curious. ›››

  • Second Trailer for Crime Film 'Shot Caller' with Nikolaj Coster-Waldau

Second Trailer for Crime Film 'Shot Caller' with Nikolaj Coster-Waldau

    Shot Caller Trailer

“The only thing that matters is you getting home to your family in one piece.” Saban Films has debuted another 60-second trailer for the intense crime thriller titled Shot Caller, from writer/director Ric Roman Waugh. Anyone still interested in this? The film tells the story of a family man who gets thrown in prison after a car accident. There he becomes a member of a prison gang in order to survive, and upon release is forced to orchestrate a major crime with a brutal rival gang on the streets of Southern California. Starring Nikolaj Coster-Waldau as Jacob, with a cast including Lake Bell, Emory Cohen, Jon Bernthal, Jeffrey Donovan, Benjamin Bratt, and Holt McCallany. They’re selling the intensity and hard-hitting brutality of this, but I’m not sure it’s going to work. For me at least, I don’t know what everyone else thinks. ›››
