    Shot Trailer

“I can make those gun shots ‘pop!’” Paladin has debuted the official trailer for an indie drama title Shot, set right in Los Angeles in the middle of Hollywood. The film tells the story of a sound designer who is struck by a random stray bullet on the streets of LA. “One bullet, three lives changed forever.” Noah Wyle stars as the man who gets shot, and Sharon Leal plays his wife who is with him at the time. The full cast includes Jorge Lendeborg Jr., Xander Berkeley, and Elaine Hendrix. Described as a “visceral roller coaster ride unflinchingly exploring the consequences of gun violence in America.” I like the intensity and intimacy of this, with the POV shots following him into the hospital. Might be worth a watch. Check this out below. ›››

  • First Festival Trailer for Documentary 'Grace Jones: Bloodlight & Bami'

First Festival Trailer for Documentary 'Grace Jones: Bloodlight & Bami'

    Grace Jones: Bloodlight & Bami

“You have to be a high-flyin’ bitch sometimes!” An official trailer has arrived online for Sophie Fiennes’ new documentary Grace Jones: Bloodlight & Bami, which will be premiering at the Toronto Film Festival coming up next month. Originally titled Grace Jones – The Musical of My Life, the film tells the life story of artist/dancer/actor Grace Jones, who some may recognize as May Day from A View to a Kill, though her career is much more diverse than that. Described as an “observational portrait”, “cinema verité-style film”, the doc combines intimate personal footage with unique staged musical sequences to give us a look at both her public and private life. This trailer doesn’t show much footage, but I am very curious about it, there’s something fierce about Grace Jones that’s particularly alluring. I’m looking forward to seeing this doc soon. ›››

  • Official Trailer for Holiday Horror 'Red Christmas' with Dee Wallace

Official Trailer for Holiday Horror 'Red Christmas' with Dee Wallace

    Red Christmas Trailer

“It’s in the oven, presents in 15 minutes!” Artsploitation Films has debuted the official trailer for a holiday horror movie titled Red Christmas, from writer/director Craig Anderson. The films stars Dee Wallace, who also produced, as a mother who must protect her family on Christmas Day from a demented stranger. The cast includes Geoff Morrell, David Collins, Sarah Bishop, Janis McGavin, Gerard Odwyer, and Sam Campbell. This looks more like an awkward comedic Christmas version of You’re Next than the other holiday horror Krampus. The final kill from this trailer is totally gnarly, not sure if that’s a good thing. ›››

The Most Beautiful Shots in Film of the 21st Century

Movies can be exhilarating experiences, capturing life and all its beauty in ways that can’t even be described. There are so many unforgettable moments, so many shots and scenes that stay with us forever. The Most Beautiful Shots of the 21st Century is a short video compiled by Ignacio Montalvo, which highlights some of the best shots over the last 16 years. This will inspire you and fill you with emotion, reminding you why movies are so wonderful. I love that he includes shots from some of my favorites: Sunshine, Big Fish, Fellowship of the Ring, The Squid and the Whale, 500 Days of Summer, Her, Black Swan, Mad Max: Fury Road. I also adore the scene from Xavier Dolan’s Mommy (which I wrote an entire article about). Pure bliss. ›››

New International Trailer for Aki Kaurismäki's 'The Other Side of Hope'

The Other Side of Hope Trailer

“I want to stay here. This is a country with no war.” The Match Factory has debuted a new international trailer for Aki Kaurismäki’s latest film, The Other Side of Hope, which first premiered at the Berlin Film Festival earlier this year. Set in Helsinki, Finland, this film tells the story of two struggling men whose lives intersect in the middle of the city. One story follows a young refugee from Syria who sneaks into Helsinki, the other follows a traveling salesman who buys a small unprofitable restaurant. The cast features Sherwan Haji, Sakari Kuosmanen, Janne Hyytiäinen, Ilkka Koivula, Nuppu Koivu, Simon Hussein Al-Bazoon, and Niroz Haji. If you’re familiar with Kaurismäki’s films already, then you should know what to expect. This one is a bit more dry and depressing than some of his other films, but it’s still worth your time. ›››

  • Dominic Cooper in First Full Trailer for British Action Movie 'Stratton'

Dominic Cooper in First Full Trailer for British Action Movie 'Stratton'

    Stratton Trailer

“The most dangerous man I’ve ever met… we need to take him down.” From the director of Con Air and The Mechanic comes another new action movie. An official UK trailer has debuted for a new British action movie called Stratton, also known as Stratton: First Into Action. The name “First Into Action” comes directly from the book that this is based on, a “Dramatic Personal Account of Life in the SBS.” Dominic Cooper stars as Stratton, a British Special Boat Service commando who tracks down an international terrorist cell. The cast includes Connie Nielsen, Tom Felton, Tyler Hoechlin, Gemma Chan, Thomas Kretschmann, Derek Jacobi, and Austin Stowell. This actually looks good, if I might say, though it’s clearly playing up the patriotic anti-terrorism angle more than anything. How dare they target London?! Cooper to the rescue. ›››

  • Trailer for Indie Comedy 'Sundowners' About Wedding Videographers

Trailer for Indie Comedy 'Sundowners' About Wedding Videographers

    Sundowners Trailer

“I’ve been drifting for so long, I don’t even remember where I want to go…” This might hit a little close to home for any up-and-coming filmmakers out there who have done this kind of work and felt this way. Sundowners is an indie comedy about two struggling videographers who decide to take a job filming a wedding down in Mexico. But, of course, they run into all kinds of problems after they discover their boss is playing fast and loose. The main cast includes Phil Hanley, Luke Lalonde, Tim Heidecker, Cara Gee, Nick Flanagan, Chris Locke, James Hartnett, and Leah Fay Goldstein. This looks amusing, and a bit depressing, but maybe it’s surprisingly quite good. There’s some impressive match cuts and sleek editing in this trailer. Perhaps it’s some kind of indie gem just waiting to be discovered. Who knows? Take a look. ›››

  • Official US Trailer for 'What Happened to Monday?' with Noomi Rapace

Official US Trailer for 'What Happened to Monday?' with Noomi Rapace

    What Happened to Monday? Trailer

“What are you waiting for?! Go get her!” Netflix has debuted a new official US trailer for indie sci-fi film What Happened to Monday?, going by Seven Sisters in some countries (we posted another trailer for this film under this name a few months ago). This is set in the near future when governments have enacted a “One-Child Policy”, but a family of seven sisters outwits the societal policy by existing in secrecy. Noomi Rapace plays all seven sisters, each with a different identity, and each named for the days of the week – Monday, Tuesday, etc. They go out one-by-one each day pretending they’re the same person, and everything seems to be going fine until one day Monday doesn’t come home. The cast includes Willem Dafoe, Glenn Close, Robert Wagner, Marwan Kenzari, and Pål Sverre Hagen. I actually saw this movie recently, and it’s damn good. It gets a little weird, but entertaining throughout and Rapace is impressive as always. ›››

Oscar Nominated Actor, Playwright & Director Sam Shepard Has Died

    Sam Shepard

“There are places where writing is acting and acting is writing. I’m not so interested in the divisions. I’m interested in the way things cross over.” Sad news to report – playwright, director, and beloved actor Sam Shepard has died at age 73. The news comes from multiple sources (e.g. Variety), reporting that Shepard died at his home in Kentucky on Sunday from amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, also known as “Lou Gehrig’s disease.” He was nominated for a Best Supporting Performance Oscar in 1984 for playing Chuck Yeager in The Right Stuff, but he is known for memorable appearances in many different films, not to mention books, plays, and other projects over the years. He most recently starred in Jeff Nichols’ Midnight Special last year. ›››
