Short Teaser for Darren Aronofsky's 'Mother!' with Jennifer Lawrence

    Mother! Teaser Trailer

“What brings you to us?” Paramount has revealed the first teaser trailer for Darren Aronofsky’s new film titled Mother!, or actually mother!, without any capitalization. This is the first time we’ve seen or heard anything from this, since it has been shrouded in secrecy ever since it was announced. Jennifer Lawrence and Javier Bardem stars as a couple whose relationship is “tested” when uninvited guests arrive at their home. That’s all we know about it, and it’s probably best to stay in the dark for this one. The cast includes Ed Harris, Michelle Pfeiffer, Domhnall Gleeson, Brian Gleeson, Stephen McHattie, Kristen Wiig, and Stefan Simchowitz. With a score by Jóhann Jóhannsson. So far so good, I’m very excited to see more from this, though I would prefer to just go in without knowing anything else just to be surprised. ›››

    Playing the Piano Short Film

We started this week with a short film, so why not end the week with a good short film as well. Piano is an animated short film that first played at film festivals throughout 2016 before arriving online recently. It’s a charming, fun little short that can’t really be described easily. “A film without main characters where the lives of characters that have lost their head intertwine in a dramatic and less dramatic way in an ordinary concrete panel apartment building.” Piano was made by Estonian filmmaker Kaspar Jancis, a director, animator, and composer, who has made a few other films previously. All of his other work is worth exploring as well, and can be seen on Vimeo. But don’t forget to check out this one below, it’ll make you smile. Enjoy. ›››

Interview: NY Filmmaker Jim Strouse on Making Uplifting Indie Films

    Jim Strouse

“You really have to drive your own train and you have to keep it running.” Yes indeed. Meet Jim Strouse. Also known as James C. Strouse. Jim is a filmmaker originally from Indiana, who now lives in New York City. If you don’t recognize his name, hopefully you will recognize his films – Grace Is Gone (in 2007), The Winning Season (in 2009), People Places Things (in 2015), and now this year he has brought us The Incredible Jessica James. Jessica James stars the talented Jessica Williams as Jessica James in an optimistic, engaging story of a struggling playwright in New York. The film premiered at the Sundance Film Festival earlier this year, like every film Jim has made, and is being released by Netflix – it’s available to watch now. I caught up with Jim at the Sundance Film Festival this year for a chat, and I’m happy to finally present our interview in full. I love his films and I’m glad I had the chance to talk with him out there. ›››

  • Trailer for Pet Transformation Comedy 'Unleashed' with Kate Micucci

Trailer for Pet Transformation Comedy 'Unleashed' with Kate Micucci

    Unleashed Trailer

Love is a four-legged word. Level 33 Entertainment has debuted a new official trailer for the indie comedy titled Unleashed, written and directed by Finn Taylor. Yet another pet transformation movie, instead of a person turning into an animal, this time it’s two animals turning into two people – two perfect guys. Kate Micucci stars as a woman who moves to San Francisco with her two pets after a break up, and learns about herself when they become these guys. Also starring Justin Chatwin, Steve Howey, Sean Astin, Illeana Douglas, Hana Mae Lee, and Josh Brener. This definitely looks very cheesy and almost way too quirky, but I like that the guys still act like her cat and dog, that makes it a bit more interesting. Have a look below. ›››

  • The Bachelor Party is Still On in Trailer for Joey Kern's Film 'Big Bear'

The Bachelor Party is Still On in Trailer for Joey Kern's Film 'Big Bear'

    Big Bear Trailer

“This is the rebirth of Joe!” Blue Fox Entertainment has debuted the trailer for a comedy titled Big Bear, from actor-turned-filmmaker Joey Kern, who also stars in the film on top of writing & directing it. Big Bear is about a group of guys who get together for a bachelor party, only to discover his fiancée was cheating on him and now the wedding is called off. The party is still on anyway, and they wake up to discover that one of them has kidnapped the man who is sleeping with his fiancée. Joey Kern stars along with Adam Brody, Tyler Labine, Toby Huss, Zachary Knighton, and Pablo Schreiber. This seems like a “dudes” movie with nothing but dudes in the script, being dudes, and messing with other dudes. It doesn’t look that good. ›››

New Official Trailer for 'LBJ' Film Starring Woody Harrelson as Johnson

    LBJ Movie Trailer

“You’re gunna lose the support of the people who’ve always had your back.” Electric Entertainment has debuted an official trailer for the indie drama LBJ, telling the story of Vice President Lyndon B. Johnson, who became President after John F. Kennedy was assassinated in 1963. Oscar nominee Woody Harrelson stars as Lyndon B. Johnson, showing him before and during the election, as well as after the assassination when he had to take over the presidency during a time of national mourning. The film also stars Richard Jenkins as Sen. Richard Russell, Bill Pullman as Sen. Ralph Yarborough, Jeffrey Donovan as President John F. Kennedy, Kim Allen as Jacqueline Kennedy & Jennifer Jason Leigh as Lady Bird Johnson. This looks solid, with some very powerful scenes being featured in this trailer. Though it does seem a bit campy. ›››

Second Official Trailer for Andrés Muschietti's Scary New 'It' Movie

    It Movie Trailer #2

“You don’t even know they’re getting closer… ’till it’s too late.” Ready for more? Warner Bros has debuted the second trailer for the new take on the horror classic It, adapted from Stephen King’s novel, about the sadistic, evil clown who haunts a town in Maine and takes their children. This new version of It stars Bill Skarsgård as the story’s villain, Pennywise. Also starring an ensemble of young actors including Jaeden Lieberher, Jeremy Ray Taylor, Sophia Lillis, Finn Wolfhard, Wyatt Oleff, Chosen Jacobs, Jack Dylan Grazer and Nicholas Hamilton. The more we see from this, the better it looks. I wasn’t expecting to be into this, but damn does this look seriously scary and seriously entertaining. I’m there opening night. ›››

  • Another Red Band Trailer for 'Ingrid Goes West' Starring Aubrey Plaza

Another Red Band Trailer for 'Ingrid Goes West' Starring Aubrey Plaza

Ingrid Goes West Red Band Trailer

“I’m not a psychopath… I just want to be her friend.” Are you obsessed with Instagram? Then this film is for you. Neon has debuted one more official red band trailer for the indie dramedy Ingrid Goes West, a cautionary tale about Instagram obsession. This premiered at the Sundance Film Festival to quite a bit of buzz, mostly for the concept, but also for the performances from the two leading ladies – Aubrey Plaza and Elizabeth Olsen. It’s about an Instagram-addicted nobody (played by Plaza) who decides to move to Los Angeles to stalk another Instagram celebrity in hopes she can have her life, too. The cast includes O’Shea Jackson Jr. and Wyatt Russell. This is actually a great film (read my review), that really is as crazy as it looks in this trailer, with some totally cringe-worthy moments. Worth a watch whenever it comes your way. ›››
