Third & Final Trailer for Niels Arden Oplev's 'Flatliners' Horror Remake

    Flatliners Trailer

“Relax. Enjoy the experience…” You haven’t lived until you’ve watched this trailer! Sony has revealed one final trailer for the remake of Flatliners, about medical students who temporarily stop their hearts in order to experience the afterlife. We’ve already seen two other trailers before – the first one and another UK one – and this final one is much more intense. The cast of Flatliners includes Ellen Page, Diego Luna, Nina Dobrev, James Norton, and Kiersey Clemons. The original was directed by Joel Schumacher and was released in 1990, but hasn’t aged well over the years though it does still have a following. Danish filmmaker Niels Arden Oplev is at the helm of this one, and seems to be giving us a more thrilling take than the original. Is anyone planning to see this? I’ll wait until the first reviews land, as I’m not sure. Thoughts? ›››

  • Venice 2017: John Woo's 'Manhunt' is Instantly Straight-to-VHS Classic

Venice 2017: John Woo's 'Manhunt' is Instantly Straight-to-VHS Classic

    Manhunt Review

I haven’t seen a movie this instantly straight-to-VHS since VHS died. No, seriously. I don’t even know what this movie is. John Woo’s latest movie, titled Manhunt, just premiered at the Venice Film Festival. It is technically a remake of a Japanese film titled Kimi yo Fundo no Kawa o Watare (1976), which is based on a book by Jukô Nishimura. The first odd thing about it is that the movie is really a Japanese movie made by a Chinese director, starring one Chinese man on the run in Japan. It’s set mostly around the city of Osaka. The other odd thing about Manhunt is that it seems like John Woo is parodying John Woo, making an old school John Woo movie that seems to be making fun of John Woo, but it’s still a John Woo movie. So, yeah. ›››

    The Divine Order Trailer

“I am in favour of women’s right to vote.” Zeitgeist Films has unveiled an official US trailer for the highly acclaimed Swiss film The Divine Order, also known as Die Göttliche Ordnung in German. This film has been selected by Switzerland as their official entry into the Academy Awards this year. The Divine Order tells the story of women’s voting rights in Switzerland, which were granted only a few years ago, in 1971. The story follows an “unassuming and dutiful housewife” who begins a suffragette movement in her small, peaceful town. She convinces the local women to go on strike and eventually begins an uprising that changes the entire country. Starring Marie Leuenberger, Maximilian Simonischek, Rachel Braunschweig, Sibylle Brunner, Marta Zoffoli, and Bettina Stucky. This looks like a fantastic film filled with great performances. I’ve been looking forward to seeing it ever since first hearing about it earlier this year. Enjoy. ›››

  • Official Trailer for Netflix's 'Gaga: Five Foot Two' Music Documentary

Official Trailer for Netflix's 'Gaga: Five Foot Two' Music Documentary

    Gaga: Five Foot Two

Are you gaga for Gaga? Netflix has unveiled an official trailer for a documentary called Gaga: Five Foot Two, an inside look at the life of Lady Gaga filmed over eight months. Directed by the filmmaker of Banksy Does New York and Me at the Zoo, the film goes behind the scenes with “pop provocateur” Lady Gaga as she releases a bold new album and prepares for her Super Bowl halftime show. It’s premiering at Toronto Film Festival starting this week, which is why this trailer is hitting now. Even if you thought you knew everything about her and have seen other films about her, this seems to be a very definitive inside look at her kooky, crazy, wild life and all that drives her to be so bold and innovative. I’m especially intrigued to see how she is involved in the creative process beyond just her music, with concerts and more. Might as well check this out. ›››

One Final Trailer for Superb 'Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri'

Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri Trailer

“I’ve got nothing to arrest you for…” “Not yet you ain’t.” Fox Searchlight has debuted a second trailer for Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri, the latest dark comedy from Martin McDonagh, of the films In Bruges and Seven Psychopaths previously. The story is about a mother in a town in Missouri who puts up three billboards questioning the local police as to why they haven’t solved her daughter’s rape and murder. Frances McDormand stars as the woman at the center of it all, and the exceptional ensemble cast includes Sam Rockwell, Woody Harrelson, Abbie Cornish, Kathryn Newton, Peter Dinklage, John Hawkes, and Lucas Hedges. This film played to rave reviews at Venice where it just premiered, as a very dark and biting drama with some outstanding performances from the entire cast. I just saw it at the festival and it’s good, but I didn’t laugh as much as I expected. That said, it’s definitely worth seeing anyway. ›››

  • Review: Muschietti's 'It' Effortlessly Blends Horror, Humor, and Heart

Review: Muschietti's 'It' Effortlessly Blends Horror, Humor, and Heart

    Muschietti's It Review

Inspired by Richard Matheson, Ray Bradbury, H.P. Lovecraft, and EC Comics’ Tales from the Crypt and The Vault of Horror, Stephen King carved a path for himself as the world’s foremost writer of horror fiction throughout the ’70s and ’80s. By the time his novel It was published in 1986, many of King’s best-selling books had already been adapted into successful films, including Carrie, The Shining, Cujo, The Dead Zone, and Christine. With the ambitious It, however, King’s work shifted shape, much like the novel’s titular evil entity haunting a small town in Maine. Instead of writing about the one thing that scared you, like a rabid dog or a demonic car, this time he was writing about everything that did – the very nature of fear itself. ›››

Full Trailer for Action Horror 'Happy Hunting' with Martin Dingle Wall

    Happy Hunting Trailer

“The rules are simple: you run, we hunt you!” Vertical Ent. has debuted an official trailer for an indie action horror titled Happy Hunting, which is basically a brand new take on “The Most Dangerous Game“. The description only explains that an alcoholic drifter becomes the target of a “deranged sporting event” but it’s clear from the title and the trailer that it’s obviously about a bunch of rednecks hunting people in a desert town. The film stars Martin Dingle Wall, Ken Lally, and Kenny Wormald. There’s a few cool shots in this trailer, mainly the silhouette shots. Other than that, I’m not sure if this going to be entertaining or just sickening to watch. This footage makes it seem like the latter. If any of this interests you, then check it out. ›››

  • Matt Bomer & Josh Wiggins in Trailer for Survival Thriller 'Walking Out'

Matt Bomer & Josh Wiggins in Trailer for Survival Thriller 'Walking Out'

    Walking Out Trailer

“This whole mountain’s ours…” “We own it. Grandfather brought me up on this mountain when I was 14.” IFC Films has unveiled the first official trailer for the film Walking Out, a survival thriller set in the snowy Montana mountains. The story is actually about a father and son, and their bond together and how their relationship is tested in a dangerous situation. Matt Bomer stars as the father, and Josh Wiggins as his son, who comes to visit him once a year. He’s not very happy about it, but they decide to go out hunting. When something goes wrong, it’s up to his son to come to the rescue and does his best to save them. This premiered at the Sundance Film Festival and I caught it there. I wasn’t the biggest fan of the film, it’s a bit bland and straightforward, but there is a strong emotional core about father-son bonding worth exploring. ›››

  • Go Back to the Dawn of Man in Full Trailer for Aardman's 'Early Man'

Go Back to the Dawn of Man in Full Trailer for Aardman's 'Early Man'

    Early Man Full Trailer

“The age of stone is over!” Studiocanal UK has debuted the full-length official trailer for Aardman’s new stop-motion animated movie Early Man, telling the story of how an early cave man and his friend, a wild boar named Hognob, unites his tribe against the mighty Bronze Age in a battle to beat them at their own game. The first teaser trailer didn’t show much but this one finally gives us a good sense of the story – which looks to be about the old vs new, fighting against change, in a way. The primary voice cast features Tom Hiddleston, Eddie Redmayne and Maisie Williams. I’m so glad that Aardman is still making movies, they’re always so fun. This looks amusing and perfectly British with the soccer (er, football) stadium scenes. ›››

Intense New TV Trailer Darren Aronofsky's Divisive Thriller 'Mother!'

    Mother! Trailer

“He’s a stranger…!” Ready for this? Paramount has debuted a new “extended look” TV trailer for Darren Aronofsky’s Mother!, which just premiered at the Venice Film Festival. This new trailer comes on the heels of very divisive buzz for the film, with rave reviews and hateful reviews, which is not unexpected for a new Aronofsky film. Jennifer Lawrence and Javier Bardem star as a couple whose relationship is “tested” when uninvited guests arrive at their secluded home. The full cast includes Ed Harris, Michelle Pfeiffer, Domhnall Gleeson, Brian Gleeson, Stephen McHattie, Kristen Wiig, and Stefan Simchowitz. With a score by Jóhann Jóhannsson. There’s also a brand new viral website to go along with this, if you want to check it out here. I loved the film, and rave about it in my review from Venice. Proceed with caution. ›››
