    The Wild Boys Trailer

“Not so clever now, Captain?” What do we have here? LGBTQ distributor Altered Innocence has debuted an official trailer for a very intriguing, edgy, erotic new art house film titled The Wild Boys, from Bertrand Mandico making his feature debut. The film is about five adolescent boys punished to go aboard a “haunted, dilapidated sailboat” where they’re about to prepare for mutiny against the Captain, until they discover their destination. “Their port of call is a supernatural island with luxuriant vegetation and bewitching powers.” The twist is that the five boys are all played by actresses, and it’s about them discovering themselves. “Shot in gorgeous 16mm and brimming with eroticism, gender-fluidity, and humor, The Wild Boys will take you on journey you won’t soon forget.” It’s also similar in look and feel to films made by Guy maddin. I really don’t know how else to describe this or what else to say, you just need to watch the trailer for a better idea. ›››

  • For Dog Lovers Only – Trailer for Sheep Dog Documentary 'Old Dog'

For Dog Lovers Only – Trailer for Sheep Dog Documentary 'Old Dog'

    Old Dog Trailer

“If you haven’t got the bond and the trust, you haven’t got anything.” This one is for all the dog lovers out there! I discovered this little documentary from New Zealand because they started following me on Twitter, and the profile’s description states: “A documentary film for those who prefer dogs to people.” Yep, that’s me! Old Dog is a feature documentary about a shepherd and sheep farmer in New Zealand who really loves dogs. He spends more time raising and taking care of his dogs than anything else, and has won awards for sheep herding because he trains his dogs with love and sensitivity, not anger and violence. This looks like a heartwarming, moving look at the bond between man and dog, as well as how dogs are really the best. And I love how much he emphasizes treating all dogs with respect and compassion, that’s how it should always be. ›››

    The Last Race Doc Trailer

“He’s a regular guy, but he comes to the racetrack and he’s a hero!” Magnolia Pictures has debuted the first official trailer for a documentary titled The Last Race, which first premiered at the Sundance Film Festival earlier this year. The doc film profiles an iconic Long Island stock car racetrack and “the tribe of blue-collar drivers that call it home, struggling to hold onto an American racing tradition as the world around them is transformed by globalization and commercialization.” This is more than just a simple documentary, merging slick imagery and immersive sound in a unique narrative form. This trailer features some intense footage, taking us right into the middle of the action both on & off the racetrack. A raw slice of Americana, captured beautifully by the filmmakers. Described by Sundance as an “evocative portraiture turns the raceway into a theater of catharsis while the track’s owners struggle to maintain an American tradition.” Give this a watch. ›››

  • First Trailer for 'I Am Paul Walker' Doc Remembering the Late Actor

First Trailer for 'I Am Paul Walker' Doc Remembering the Late Actor

I Am Paul Walker Doc Trailer

“That guy made the best of every single minute.” Paramount Network has debuted an official trailer for a documentary titled I Am Paul Walker, about the late actor who died in a car crash in 2013. The feature-length documentary is the latest from filmmaker Adrian Buitenhuis, who also made the docs I Am Heath Ledger and I Am Sam Kinison previously. We’re breaking our rule of not covering any TV, only because this is a film about an actor and it’s still a real film though it’s premiering on a TV network. The doc features appearances by Fast and Furious actor Tyrese Gibson and director Rob Cohen, director Wayne Kramer, family members Cody Walker, Caleb Walker, Ashlie Walker, Cheryl Walker, and Paul Walker III; Oakley Lehman, Dr. Michael Domeier, plus his manager Matt Luber. This looks like a very emotional remembrance. ›››

  • Michael Jai White in Official Trailer for Crime Drama 'Making a Killing'

Michael Jai White in Official Trailer for Crime Drama 'Making a Killing'

    Making a Killing Trailer

“Sounds like you need to own up to some of the things you’ve done.” Cleopatra Entertainment has released an official trailer for a film titled Making a Killing, a crime drama from filmmaker Devin Hume. The film is about three morticians who get caught up in a web of greed and deceit, involving buried treasure and a tangled love affair, in this modern day crime mystery that is, apparently, based on a true story. Michael Jai White stars in this as Officer Hudson, along with Mike Starr, Jack Forcinito, Sally Kirkland, Aida Turturro, and Christopher Lloyd. This looks crazy weird and wacky and totally low budget, not really in a good way. The best part about this is Michael Jai White, who looks like he’s having all kinds of fun in this role with the cowboy hat and all. But this film really looks quite awful, thankfully the trailer is free to watch. ›››

  • Wahlberg & Uwais in Final Trailer for Berg's Action Thriller 'Mile 22'

Wahlberg & Uwais in Final Trailer for Berg's Action Thriller 'Mile 22'

    Mile 22 Trailer

“Can I trust you?” “Put me on a plane and I’ll give you everything.” STX has released one final, kinetic trailer for Mile 22, the latest action collaboration between director Peter Berg and Mark Wahlberg (who have made Lone Survivor, Deepwater Horizon, Patriots Day together). This trailer also features the unreleased track from Migos “Is you ready?” Wahlberg plays a top secret, high level CIA agent in their “least understood unit”, tasked with finding and transporting an asset to “Mile 22” for extraction. The title refers to the place where the person can be safely extracted, and Wahlberg’s characters encounters “some very evil people” along the way. This was filmed in Colombia and seems to take place somewhere in South America. Also starring John Malkovich, Ronda Rousey, Iko Uwais, Terry Kinney, Sala Baker, Alexandra Vino, Poorna Jagannathan, and Lauren Cohan. This movie might just be worth seeing this summer. ›››

  • Trailer for FilmStruck's 'Seventh Seal' + 'Bill & Ted' Double Feature

Trailer for FilmStruck's 'Seventh Seal' + 'Bill & Ted' Double Feature

    Seventh Seal + Bogus Journey

“Choose your game. And if you lose, you will stay here in hell forever…” This is totally bogus! FilmStruck and the Criterion Channel have debuted a wacky, crazy, fun new trailer for their fantastic “Friday Night Double Feature” – Ingmar Bergman’s The Seventh Seal (1957) with Peter Hewitt’s Bill & Ted’s Bogus Journey (1991). For those who have seen the Bill & Ted sequel, there’s a big part in the middle of it where they get stuck in hell (after being killed by evil robot versions of themselves) that is an homage to the chess scene in The Seventh Seal, where a medieval knight plays against Death. It’s a iconic part of Bill & Ted, so FilmStruck decided to pair these two as a double feature – and it’s a match made in heaven hell. This video combines the two movies and it’s totally rad. As a big fan of Bill & Ted, I couldn’t help featuring this trailer. ›››

  • Interview: Belarusian Filmmaker Darya Zhuk on Her First Feature Film

Interview: Belarusian Filmmaker Darya Zhuk on Her First Feature Film

    Darya Zhuk

“I was trying to create a character that I myself would identify with.” A film from Belarus titled Crystal Swan premiered at the Karlovy Vary Film Festival this year, the feature directorial debut of a talented filmmaker named Darya Zhuk. Darya grew up in Minsk, Belarus, but left at age 16 to study in the US. After graduating college and years of working in various jobs, she decided to go and study directing at Columbia University and has finally completed her first feature film – Crystal Swan, about a young Belarusian woman named Velya who is trying to get a visa to travel to the USA. The film premiered to positive reviews and is still searching for an American distributor, but I wanted to bring extra attention to this filmmaker and her film. Here is my interview with Darya Zhuk, discussing the challenges and joys of making her first feature. ›››

  • Official Trailer for 'Love, Gilda' Doc About Comedienne Gilda Radner

Official Trailer for 'Love, Gilda' Doc About Comedienne Gilda Radner

    Love, Gilda Trailer

“I always felt I can do anything, if people are laughing.” Magnolia Pictures + CNN Films have debuted the official trailer for a documentary titled Love, Gilda, a profile of the iconic comedienne Gilda Radner, as told in her own voice. Similar to the documentary Listen to Me Marlon, the film is based around a series of long, unreleased audio diaries and personal journals written/recorded by Gilda Radner before she passed away in 1989. It’s described as a “comprehensive remembrance of Radner’s public legacy” and “underpinned by an engrossing insight into her private struggles.” This looks like a heartfelt film that gets into her story, showing how tragically short her life was, yet how much of an impact she made and how she inspired many. ›››

  • Full Trailer for Sylvain White's 'Slender Man' Horror Arriving in August

Full Trailer for Sylvain White's 'Slender Man' Horror Arriving in August

    Slender Man Trailer

“Those who hear the three bells toll accept his invitation.” Sony’s Screen Gems has debuted the second, full-length trailer for the spooky Slender Man movie, based on the internet meme/myth about a tall, creepy, “slender” man that haunts kids. The whole Slender Man idea has already worked its way into pop culture and reality, and of course they have made a horror movie about it. Slender Man stars Joey King, Julia Goldani Telles, Annalise Basso, Jaz Sinclair, Javier Botet, Kevin Chapman, and Michael Reilly Burke. This looks like it has some creepy moments, but doesn’t look like anything other than just another creepy horror movie about a weird creature/spirit that follows people around. Who knows if it’s actually any good or just a horror they’re dumping in late summer, after being delayed from its release in May this year. ›››
