Sunny Suljic in First Trailer for Jonah Hill's Directorial Debut 'Mid90s'

    Mid90s Trailer

“You’re like at that age before guys become dicks.” A24 has unveiled the first official trailer for a new indie film titled Mid90s, which is actually the feature directorial debut of Oscar nominated actor Jonah Hill. It’s both written and directed by Jonah Hill, and is about a 13-year-old kid living in Los Angeles in the 90s, who spends his summer navigating between his troubled home life and a rambunctious group of new friends that he meets at a skate shop. Sunny Suljic (from The Killing of a Sacred Deer) stars as Stevie, and the cast includes Katherine Waterston, Jerrod Carmichael, Alexa Demie, Jax Malcolm, plus Lucas Hedges. This looks great! I dig the 4:3 aspect ratio, and the grungy 90s vibe to this. Definitely worth a look. ›››

Official Trailer for 'Studio 54' Doc About the Infamous NYC Night Club

    Studio 54 Documentary Trailer

“It was hot, sexy…” “Like an adult amusement park.” Zeitgeist Films has debuted the official trailer for a documentary titled Studio 54, which premiered at the Sundance Film Festival earlier this year. The film is a profile of the popular, infamous, iconic night club known as “Studio 54” in New York. “For 33 months, from 1978 to 1980, the nightclub Studio 54 was the place to be seen in Manhattan. A haven of hedonism, tolerance, glitz and glamor, Studio was very hard to gain entrance to and impossible to ignore, with news of who was there filling the gossip columns daily.” From experienced doc director Matt Tyrnauer (Valentino: The Last Emperor, Citizen Jane: Battle For The City), along with unprecedented access to co-founder Ian Schrager, “who tells the whole unvarnished story for the first time”, the film is described as “a vivid, glorious portrait of a disco-era phenomenon.” This doc looks crazy fascinating, an untold real story finally being told. ›››

Official Trailer for Action Film 'I Am Vengeance' Starring Stu Bennett

    I Am Vengeance Trailer

“You best stop shooting your mouth off, now – or you’re a dead man!” Saban Films + Lionsgate have just released an official trailer for another one of these low budget, super cheesy, totally awful-looking action films. This one is titled I Am Vengeance, a variation on the original Vengeance title for UK release. I Am Vengeance stars former WWE wrestler Stu Bennett (who wrestled under the name Wade “King” Barrett) as an ex-Special Forces soldier turned professional mercenary, who goes to a small town to investigate the murder of a friend and his parents. The film’s cast includes Keith Allen, Gary Daniels, Anna Shaffer, Bryan Larkin, Sean Blowers, Sapphire Elia, Mark Griffin, and Wayne Gordon. I’m so, so tired of these films, only about guns and muscles and bravado and being men and honor and glory and all that crap. ›››

    What They Had Trailer

“She’s my girl. You can’t take my girl away from me.” Bleecker Street Media has released an official trailer for an indie drama titled What They Had, which first premiered at the Sundance Film Festival earlier this year. From first-time filmmaker Elizabeth Chomko, this heart-wrenching drama tells the story of a family that comes together one winter in Chicago, trying to figure out what to do with their aging mother who has Alzheimer’s and suddenly leaves the apartment one snowy night. Hilary Swank stars, along with Michael Shannon as her brother, and a cast including Blythe Danner, Robert Forster, Taissa Farmiga, Josh Lucas, and Aimee Garcia. The film received mostly mediocre reviews at Sundance, even though it’s a very powerful, personal story with some good performances. Might connect with a few people more than others. ›››

  • Second Trailer for Robert Rodriguez's Robot Sci-Fi 'Alita: Battle Angel'

Second Trailer for Robert Rodriguez's Robot Sci-Fi 'Alita: Battle Angel'

    Alita: Battle Angel Trailer

“She is threatening the natural order…” 20th Century Fox has released the second official trailer for Alita: Battle Angel, about a deadly cyborg humanoid named Alita, played by Rosa Salazar, who is found in a scrap heap by Dr. Dyson Ido. This new trailer was originally shown in Hall H at Comic-Con last week, and now available for everyone else to watch. They used James Cameron and Laeta Kalogridis’ original script that has been going around, and Cameron is also a producer along with Jon Landau. Cameron was supposed to direct for years, but handed it over to Rodriguez. The film’s full cast includes Jennifer Connelly, Eiza González, Michelle Rodriguez, Christoph Waltz, Jackie Earle Haley, Jeff Fahey, Mahershala Ali, Ed Skrein, and Casper Van Dien. I know this will be debated and argued endlessly – but I think this looks awesome! A very heavy CGI futuristic world, fully realized, with some crazy cool characters. The anime eyes don’t bother me, and I’m sure the CGI will be polished by the time it opens in December. Fire this up. ›››

    The Padre Trailer

“Ask her if she knows where she’s going.” Vertical Entertainment has debuted an official trailer for an indie crime thriller titled The Padre, the latest from filmmaker Jonathan Sobol (A Beginner’s Guide to Endings, The Art of the Steal). The plot of this film involves a retired US Judge on the hunt for a con man hiding out as a priest in a small Colombian town. They’re getting closer, until a local girl gets in the way with her own plans. The cast includes Tim Roth, Nick Nolte, Luis Guzmán, with Marie Paquim and Ophelia. This doesn’t look particularly impressive, but it does have a solid cast at least. From the looks of it, there’s some intriguing characters and different threads that all get mixed up together down in Colombia. Check this out. ›››

    Shazam! Trailer

“If you want to save the world, say the magic word.” Warner Bros has debuted the first teaser trailer for the new Shazam! movie, based on the DC Comics character. This trailer comes straight from inside Hall H, where it was revealed at Comic-Con in San Diego. They’ve been teasing this Shazam! movie for a while, with some funny photo reveals this week. Now we finally get a peek at the trailer and it looks surprisingly very good – described as Big meets Superman, and that certainly seems the case. Zachary Levi stars as Shazam, and the cast includes Asher Angel as Billy Batson, plus Mark Strong as the Super-Villain Dr. Thaddeus Sivana, as well as Jack Dylan Grazer, Grace Fulton, Ian Chen, Jovan Armand, Cooper Andrews, Marta Milans, and Djimon Hounsou. This really does look better than expected, even the humor. Levi has been enthusiastic about this role, and it shows in this first bit of footage. This looks fun. Do you agree? ›››

    Godzilla: King of Monsters Trailer

“Love live the King.” He’s back!! Warner Bros has debuted the first official full-length trailer for Godzilla: King of the Monsters, following its premiere inside of Hall H at Comic-Con in San Diego. This sequel to Gareth Edwards’s Godzilla reboot from 2014 is directed by Michael Dougherty (Trick ‘r Treat, Krampus), and looking even more epic as Godzilla must battle other massive monsters, including Mothra, Rodan, and his ultimate nemesis, the three headed King Ghidorah. And yes we get a very quick glimpse at him in this. Dougherty’s Godzilla: King of the Monsters stars Millie Bobby Brown (from “Stranger Things”) plus Bradley Whitford, Vera Farmiga, Sally Hawkins, O’Shea Jackson Jr., Kyle Chandler, Charles Dance, Zhang Ziyi, Thomas Middleditch, with Ken Watanabe. So far, so good! This actually looks amazing – I love the Clair De Lune music, it looks so massive and spectacular and thrilling, oh my goodness. ›››
