    A Kind of Murder Trailer

“What’s the difference between wishing someone dead and actually doing something about it?” Magnolia Pictures has debuted an official trailer for the indie thriller A Kind of Murder, a vintage murder mystery set in 1960s New York. Jessica Biel and Patrick Wilson star as a married couple with personal problems living in NYC. Walter becomes obsessed with an unsolved murder that gets him into all kinds of other trouble. The cast includes Haley Bennett, Vincent Kartheiser, Eddie Marsan, Corrie Danieley and Radek Lord. I’m not sure where this film came from – this was the first time I’d heard about it before. It doesn’t look that bad, but doesn’t really look that great either, almost as if they tried too hard. Have a look. ›››

Watch: Simple Sci-Fi Short Film 'On Sunday' from Director David Lea

    On Sunday

Nothing ever happens on Sunday… Hopefully everyone went to see Arrival this weekend. If you’re still in the mood for some beautiful first contact sci-fi, this short is for you. It’s a very lovely companion to Arrival, but that’s all I’ll say. On Sunday is a short directed by David Lea, who made this on his own time without any money. Via email, he explains his inspiration: “Way back in 1984 [my dad] hand built a cabin bed for my bedroom and underneath this, made from wood, flashing lights and copper piping, he’d constructed a spaceship cockpit… 31 years later I thought it was past time to repay the favour.” Check out the film below. ›››

  • Rooney Mara in First Trailer for Ireland-Set Film 'The Secret Scripture'

Rooney Mara in First Trailer for Ireland-Set Film 'The Secret Scripture'

    The Secret Scripture Trailer

“Do you not understand the power you have over men?” An official international trailer has debuted for an indie drama titled The Secret Scripture, a drama that recalls the life of one woman in Ireland. Rooney Mara and Vanessa Redgrave play the same woman, named Roseanne McNulty, who grew up in the midst of the religious and political upheavals in Ireland during the 1920s and ’30s. The story starts with Redgrave in a mental institution, where she has kept a diary of “secret scriptures” from her life. It flashes back to tell her story growing up, which is when Mara takes over. The cast features Jack Reynor, Aidan Turner, Theo James, Eric Bana, Tom Vaughan-Lawlor and Omar Sharif Jr. This looks like a passionate film that evokes every kind of emotion, with an evocative story about the struggle to live a life entirely your own. ›››

  • Second Red Band Trailer for 'Why Him?' Starring Cranston & Franco

Second Red Band Trailer for 'Why Him?' Starring Cranston & Franco

    Why Him? Trailer

“By Christmas morning, you’re going to be calling me son, I’m going to be calling you dad.” 20th Century Fox has revealed a second red band trailer for the new comedy Why Him?, about a father dealing with the totally insane boy that his charming daughter has chosen to marry. Bryan Cranston stars as the father, and James Franco stars as the boy – a tattoo-covered “internet billionaire”, with Zoey Deutch playing the daughter. The rest of the cast includes Megan Mullally, Keegan-Michael Key, Griffin Gluck, Andrew Rannells, Casey Wilson and Zack Pearlman. Not so sure about this, seems a bit too goofy. I’m actually more interested in seeing Keegan-Michael Key as his butler more than pretty much anything else. Have fun. ›››

  • First Very Brief Trailer for Takashi Miike's Film 'Blade of the Immortal'

First Very Brief Trailer for Takashi Miike's Film 'Blade of the Immortal'

    Blade of the Immortal Trailer

More Miike! A very, very brief teaser trailer has debuted for the latest Takashi Miike film, an adaptation of a manga about an immortal samurai. Blade of the Immortal, originally Mugen no jûnin in Japanese, is about a samurai who has to kill 1000 evil men in order to regain his mortality. Starring Hana Sugisaki, Ebizô Ichikawa, Sôta Fukushi, Hayato Ichihara, Erika Toda, Kazuki Kitamura, Min Tanaka, Takuya Kimura and Tsutomu Yamazaki. Based on the concept (and final shot in this) alone, it reminds me of 13 Assassins, which is one of Miike’s best action movies. I wish there was more to see, but I’m sure we’ll get more trailers before April. No US release is set yet, but hopefully it’ll be out in 2017 in the US, too. ›››

    Jackie Trailer

“People need their history… People need to know that real men actually lived here.” Fox Searchlight has revealed a new full-length trailer for Pablo Larrain’s second film this year, titled Jackie, his first English-language feature (his other film is Neruda). Natalie Portman stars as First Lady Jackie Kennedy, profiling her experiences after the assassination of her husband, President John F. Kennedy, in 1966. The full cast includes Peter Sarsgaard as Bobby Kennedy, Greta Gerwig, Billy Crudup, John Hurt, John Carroll Lynch, Richard E. Grant and Max Casella. This is one of the best films of the year, I can’t recommend it enough. Don’t be surprised when Portman wins another Oscar for her performance. Do not miss this film. ›››

Emma Watson in Full Trailer for Disney's New 'Beauty and the Beast'

    Beauty and the Beast Trailer

“Think if the one thing you’ve always wanted…” Disney has revealed the second, full-length trailer for their new live-action Beauty and the Beast movie starring Emma Watson as Belle. This first teaser trailer didn’t show much at all, now we finally get a look at all the characters and we get to hear some of the songs from this musical – though no singing yet. The full cast includes Dan Stevens as the Beast, Luke Evans as Gaston, Gugu Mbatha-Raw as Plumette, Ewan McGregor as Lumiere, Ian McKellen as Cogsworth, Emma Thompson as Mrs. Potts, Kevin Kline as Maurice, Stanley Tucci as Cadenza and Josh Gad as Le Fou. Disney has been on a roll recently, and it looks like this is going to be another huge hit for them. Watch: 75th Anniversary Re-Release Trailer for Welles' 'Citizen Kane'

    Citizen Kane Trailer

“It isn’t enough to tell us what a man did, you’ve got to tell us who he was.” Everyone knows this film. We don’t cover home entertainment releases, but occasionally we will make an exception. Such as, for example, the “#1 movie of all-time” – Orson Welles’ Citizen Kane, which was first released in 1941. To celebrate the 75th anniversary of the film, Warner Home Video is re-releasing Citizen Kane on Blu-ray this fall. To mark the occasion, they’ve debuted a new trailer. If only this was getting a theatrical re-release to go along with the Blu-ray, but perhaps now is not the right time. Orson Welles plays newspaper baron Charles Foster Kane, and the film examines his life and his loss of ideals as he gains more power and money. Watch below. ›››
