Official Trailer for Alastair Orr's Horror Film 'House on Willow Street'

    House on Willow Street Trailer

“You should really let me go… Or you’re all going to die tonight.” IFC Midnight has released the official trailer for an indie horror film titled House on Willow Street, formerly From a House on Willow Street (the full title when it premiered at FrightFest last year). From director Alastair Orr, the film is about a group of kidnappers who take a young woman from a house on Willow Street. They soon find out they chose the wrong person to kidnap, as the girl is actually a demonic killer herself. Sharni Vinson stars, along with Carlyn Burchell, Steven Ward, Zino Ventura, and Gustav Gerdener. This film actually looks totally crazy and freaky and violent and everything. It gets even weirder when the special effects kick in. Have fun. ›››

Trailer for Spielberg's Docu-Series 'Five Came Back' About WWII Films

    Five Came Back Trailer

“Western civilization was at stake, and we’re going to fight until we win.” Netflix has unveiled a trailer for a new three-part documentary series titled Five Came Back. I’m breaking our rules to share this trailer, because it’s a docu-series about filmmaking (and filmmakers) and specifically about WWII movies, which is one of my favorite genres. Five Came Back is executive produced by Steven Spielberg (also interviewed in the doc), Scott Rudin and Barry Diller, featuring narration by Meryl Streep. The title refers to “five” filmmakers who helped change the way the American people saw and understood World War II. Those five filmmakers were: John Ford, George Stevens, John Huston, William Wyler, and Frank Capra. The footage in this looks amazing, and I’m super excited to watch this series when it airs in March. Check this out below. ›››

    Ghost in the Shell

“This may not look like a great deal of complexity to your viewers…” Weta Workshop is one of the coolest places, along with ILM. As a preview for the upcoming live-action Ghost in the Shell movie, Tested host Adam Savage went down to New Zealand for a personal tour of the Weta Workshop to get a closer look at the various props and practical effects and other toys used to make the movie. This video focuses entirely on the robot geisha seen in the trailers, with the face that opens up. Savage talks with Weta’s Richard Taylor about creating the robot geisha and the various development processes. I wish there was more in this video about other props and pieces from the movie, but hopefully we’ll see more of them later. Take a look below. ›››

  • First Trailer for Tarantino-Inspired Crime Thriller 'The Mason Brothers'

First Trailer for Tarantino-Inspired Crime Thriller 'The Mason Brothers'

    The Mason Brothers Trailer

“This is what we got. It’s a bank job, and everybody’s gunna be going in on this one.” A trailer has arrived for a film titled The Mason Brothers, the feature directorial debut of filmmaker Keith Sutliff originally hailing from Tampa, Florida. The crime thriller is about a group of brothers + bank robbers who try to pull off a clean heist, but things go wrong. Starring Brandon Pearson, Matthew Webb, Michael Whelan, Julien Cesario, Chris Park, and Nazo Brava. It’s clear this is an homage to Tarantino and to Reservoir Dogs specifically, but it also seems to be inspired by Christopher Nolan’s films, too. Doesn’t look that good. ›››

Release the Beasts – One Final Trailer for 'Kong: Skull Island' Debuts

    Kong: Skull Island Trailer

“We gotta get out of this place…” Whoa! Oh hell yes! Warner Bros has released one final trailer for Jordan Vogt-Roberts’ Kong: Skull Island, which hits theaters everywhere in just a few more weeks. This looks totally awesome, and I can’t wait to dive into it and meet the big guy. Tom Hiddleston and Brie Larson star with a cast including Samuel L. Jackson, John Goodman, John C. Reilly, Tian Jing, Corey Hawkins, Jason Mitchell, John Ortiz, Thomas Mann, Shea Wigham, Toby Kebbell and Eugene Cordero. The other trailers have shown quite a bit of promise, but with polished VFX this final trailer is all out epic. Vogt-Roberts also commented that he wanted them to make this final trailer in the model of The Handmaiden trailer, and it’s fantastic. I’m still floored by some of the amazing shots in this. • First Teaser Trailer for David Ayer's Orcs Movie 'Bright' with Will Smith

First Teaser Trailer for David Ayer's Orcs Movie 'Bright' with Will Smith

    Bright Trailer

“I’m assuming this doesn’t end well.” Netflix premiered a trailer for their upcoming new sci-fi fantasy movie from director David Ayer, who last made Suicide Squad. The project is titled Bright and comes from a screenplay written by Max Landis, of Chronicle and American Ultra. This is the movie you may have heard about where there are orc creatures living among the humans. Will Smith plays a cop in Los Angeles who ends up in the middle of a turf war. The cast includes Joel Edgerton, Noomi Rapace, Edgar Ramírez, Ike Barinholtz, Brad William Henke, Lucy Fry and Dawn Olivieri. This is just a tease, so they don’t reveal too much yet, but I am definitely curious about this. I want to see more footage. Take a look below. ›››

  • New Trailer for Pixar's 'Cars 3' Introduces a 'New Generation' of Racers

New Trailer for Pixar's 'Cars 3' Introduces a 'New Generation' of Racers

    Pixar's Cars 3

“The next generation is coming. They’re better, stronger…” Disney-Pixar have unveiled a new TV spot on Oscar Sunday for their upcoming sequel, Cars 3, which is actually looking better than expected. This trailer focuses on the “new generation” of high-tech racers that take out Lightning, though as learned previously, he makes a comeback. The other recent trailer for Cars 3 shows more of the story in the film, but this trailer is still a good setup. It gets especially gnarly during Lightning’s crash scene, once again. Owen Wilson returns as McQueen, with a voice cast including Armie Hammer, Bonnie Hunt, Tony Shalhoub, Katherine Helmond, and Paul Dooley. Even though we’ve seen most of this before, check out this new trailer anyway. The music in this is awesome, almost trying to pitch it like a Tron Legacy nod. Watch below. ›››

  • Berlinale 2017: Recap of My Favorite Films & Performances of the Fest

Berlinale 2017: Recap of My Favorite Films & Performances of the Fest

    Berlinale 2017

The lesson I’ve learned covering film festivals is that sometimes the best films aren’t always the one you loved at first sight, sometimes they’re the ones that you remember. There’s something about them. It could be the performance, it could be the story, it could be something else about it that gets into your mind and still lingers there. Something about it that you keep thinking back to, even if it isn’t a perfect film, there’s something you can’t shake. That is usually the sign of a great film, and film festivals (which are exhausting to cover) help us figure out which ones leave a lasting impression because there’s so many to see in so little time. To wrap up my 4th year attending the Berlin Film Festival (aka Berlinale), I want to recap a few of my favorite films and favorite performances of the 2017 festival. I hope all these films end up on your radar. ›››

Read the Joint Statement from the Foreign-Language Oscar Nominees

    Asghar Farhadi

Let their voices be heard! This is important. We try to keep politics out of the discussion here on FS, but this statement deserves our undivided attention. And I stand by and support all of these filmmakers and their message. Just in time for the Academy Awards this weekend, the filmmakers behind the five nominated Best Foreign-Language Films have released a joint statement. The statement condemns the ridiculous Muslim Travel Ban in America and allows them to express their sympathetic feelings towards human rights and a desire to support all people no matter where they’re from or the color of their skin or what religion they choose to follow. It makes it even more powerful that all of these filmmakers came together to say this. ›››
