Samantha Isler in Full Trailer for Supernatural Thriller 'Dig Two Graves'

    Dig Two Graves Trailer

“How far would you go to bring someone back?” Area 23a has debuted a trailer for an indie horror titled Dig Two Graves, from director Hunter Adams, which has been waiting for distribution for years. This film premiered at the New Orleans Film Festival way back in 2014, but is just now getting released in theaters March 2017. Dig Two Graves is a supernatural thriller about a young girl’s obsession with her brother’s death which leads her on a nightmarish journey where she is faced with a deadly proposition to bring him back. Samantha Isler stars as the lead, with Ted Levine, Danny Goldring, Troy Ruptash, Rachael Drummond, Dean Evans and Bradley Grant Smith. This looks fairly creepy, and probably forgettable. ›››

Spoiler-Filled 'The Discovery' Trailer with Jason Segel & Rooney Mara

    The Discovery Trailer

“Don’t you think your discovery was just too dangerous to share with the world?” Netflix has revealed a full trailer for Charlie McDowell’s new sci-fi film The Discovery, to follow-up the first teaser launched just before Sundance. This outstanding little indie feature premiered at the Sundance Film Festival, and it comes highly recommended for sci-fi fans. Jason Segel and Rooney Mara star, along with Robert Redford, Jesse Plemons & Riley Keough, in this film about a world where the afterlife is scientifically proven. The two connect and look back over their lives while almost everyone else is considering killing themselves to “get there”. I wrote in my review from Sundance that this film is thought-provoking “cinema for intelligent minds.” This trailer gives away almost ALL of the movie, which is pretty terrible, so be careful watching this. ›››

  • First Trailer for Dwayne Johnson's Prison Doc 'Rock and a Hard Place'

First Trailer for Dwayne Johnson's Prison Doc 'Rock and a Hard Place'

Rock and a Hard Place Trailer

“Don’t squander this opportunity.” HBO Documentaries has premiered a trailer for a new doc titled Rock and a Hard Place, featuring Dwayne Johnson (formerly known as “The Rock”) sharing his experiences with a program he supports. Johnson tells about his own experiences with the law as a youth, and meets some of the kids currently enrolled in a one-of-a-kind boot camp program for incarcerated youth. This looks like a powerful, and hopefully inspiring, follow-up to Ava DuVernay’s incredible documentary 13th – which touches on the troubles with the modern prison system. It looks like Johnson only comes in for a talk once, but maybe he is more prominent in the actual doc itself. I’m curious about seeing this. Check out the trailer. ›››

  • First Trailer for Syfy Original Movie 'Atomica' Set Inside a Nuclear Plant

First Trailer for Syfy Original Movie 'Atomica' Set Inside a Nuclear Plant

    Atomica Trailer

“Is there something you’re not telling me?” “It’s under control.” Syfy has released a trailer for their original movie titled Atomica, that is supposedly being released into theaters and not just on TV. Atomica is set inside a nuclear power planet in the “near future”, when communications go offline and mysteriously weird things start to happen inside. The cast includes Sarah Habel starring, with Tom Sizemore, Dominic Monaghan, Phil Austin, Hahn Cho and Jennifer Spriggs. I like the futuristic sci-fi look and feel of this film, but I am worried it’ll probably turn out to be a big mess. The footage is interesting until it becomes confusing and it’s hard to make sense of what’s going on inside this weird place. Still, it’s worth a quick look. ›››

  • Official US Trailer for François Ozon's WWI Romantic Drama 'Frantz'

“What would the truth bring?” “Only more pain.” Music Box Films has released a new official US trailer for the indie film Frantz, the latest film from prolific French director François Ozon. This played at the Venice and Telluride Film Festival last fall to very positive reviews, and it also played at the Sundance Film Festival this January. French actor Pierre Niney, star of the biopic Yves Saint Laurent, plays the French man who comes to a small German town and places flowers on the grave of a deceased man named Frantz. New US Trailer for Danièle Thompson's 'Cézanne Et Moi' About Artists

    Cézanne Et Moi Trailer

“I’d like to paint as you write.” Magnolia Pictures has debuted an official US trailer for Danièle Thompson’s biopic drama Cézanne Et Moi, also known as Cézanne and I, about a friendship between two artists. The film tells of the parallel paths between the lives and careers of post-impressionist painter Paul Cézanne and novelist Émile Zola, starting as school pals in Aix-en-Provence to working artists in Paris. Guillaume Gallienne plays Cézanne, and Guillaume Canet plays Zola, with a cast including Alice Pol, Déborah François, Isabelle Candelier, Sabine Azéma, Freya Mavor and Félicien Juttner. This didn’t play at any film festivals, but it did already open in European cinemas last year. The film is described as a “polished period piece” that “boldly paints a picture of two 19th century masters.” This looks quite good. Take a look. ›››

  • Trailer for Medical Drama 'Brain On Fire' Starring Chloë Grace Moretz

Trailer for Medical Drama 'Brain On Fire' Starring Chloë Grace Moretz

    Brain On Fire Trailer

“To put it simply – her brain is on fire.” An odd trailer has debuted for the film Brain on Fire, a medical mystery psychological drama from Irish director Gerard Barrett. The film stars Chloë Grace Moretz as a young woman who starts going mad after she begins to experience really terrible seizures, and her life falls apart as a result. Based on the true story of Susannah Cahalan. The full cast includes Richard Armitage, Carrie-Anne Moss, Tyler Perry, Thomas Mann, Vincent Gale, Nicole LaPlaca, Navid Negahban, Agam Darshi, with an appearance by Jenny Slate. This is a weird trailer that throws a curveball part of the way through, then gets laughably cheesy at the end. The footage is okay, but the title cards are the worst. ›››

Berlinale 2017: Exploring Berlin's Many Movie Palaces Around the City

    Berlinale 2017

I love movie theaters. Every time I walk into one, I get the feeling I’m at home again. They are my places of worship, they are my cathedrals, they are my palaces. Every last city in the world has their own unique set of movie theaters, usually with an extensive and interesting history behind each one. Over the last 10 days of the 2017 Berlin Film Festival (aka “Berlinale“) I was able to explore a number of different venues for screenings all over the city. I really love Berlin, and it’s now my home where I live, but I’m still exploring and still going to places I’ve never been before. Looking back over this year’s festival, I wanted to highlight a few of the gorgeous movie palaces I visited and share some photos of these places, since they’re all so lovely. ›››

Watch: 'Tears In The Rain' Sci-Fi Short Film Inspired by 'Blade Runner'

Tears In The Rain Sci-Fi Short Film

“I would know if I was a replicant!” We’re always on the lookout for good sci-fi short films. Tears In The Rain is an intriguing little short from South Africa that is clearly directly inspired by Blade Runner, set in the world of Philip K. Dick’s novel Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep?. This short was made on a budget of only $1500 which is crazy impressive, and it looks great. I wish there was more taking place outside on the streets, but it’s still cool to see a well-made short film set in this world, and I can always appreciate some fascinating dialogue. This gets deep into the themes from the original novel about free will and whether or not our memories are real, and if we would know that we’re a robot, or are just designed to think we’re real. ›››

  • New Official Trailer for Guy Ritchie's 'King Arthur' with Charlie Hunnam

New Official Trailer for Guy Ritchie's 'King Arthur' with Charlie Hunnam

    King Arthur Trailer

“Why does the sword reveal itself now?” Warner Bros has unveiled another new trailer for Guy Ritchie’s King Arthur: Legend of the Sword, the new take on the legendary King Arthur story. As we know from the previous trailer, Ritchie’s style stands out in particular, making this look a bit more unique than other versions of this story. Charlie Hunnam stars as the new King Arthur with a cast including Jude Law, Annabelle Wallis, Katie McGrath, Eric Bana, Djimon Hounsou, Astrid Bergès-Frisbey, Tom Wu, as well as Aidan Gillen. I really, really like this new trailer. The music is perfect, the way it’s edited is exciting, I am totally sold. I don’t know if it will be good, but this trailer definitely gets me hyped to see this. ›››
