Dogs Are Love – Trailer for True Story Film 'The Stray' About a Cute Dog

    The Stray Trailer

“One dog can change everything.” Purdie Distribution has revealed a trailer for a new dog movie called The Stray, about a stray dog named Pluto who changes the lives of one family. The full cast of mostly unknowns includes Sarah Lancaster, Michael Cassidy, Scott Christopher, Connor Corum, Jacque Gray, Cory Dangerfield and Coral Chambers. I’m a big, big time dog lover, and I’m always on the lookout for films about dogs, but this doesn’t look that good. Oddly, the dog barely shows up in the trailer that much. It’s all about the people. This looks about as cheesy and mediocre as A Dog’s Purpose, the other dog movie this year. At least the doggie looks cute, with his charming different colored eyes. That’s about all I can say. ›››

Trailer for 'Brave New Jersey' About the 'War of the Worlds' Broadcast

    Brave New Jersey Trailer

“So, what are we supposed to do now?” Gravitas Ventures has released the trailer for an indie comedy titled Brave New Jersey, from filmmaker Jody Lambert. The film tells the true story of a small town in New Jersey that freaked out during Orson Welles’ legendary 1938 “War of the Worlds” radio broadcast, believing it was real. They decided to make this a comedy, which may work better in the end since playing this serious would be a whole other thing. Brave New Jersey features an ensemble cast including Tony Hale, Heather Burns, Anna Camp, Sam Jaeger, Raymond J. Barry, Dan Bakkedahl, Mel Rodriguez, Grace Kaufman, Matt Oberg, and Erika Alexander. This looks totally goofy but still heartfelt and fun. Enjoy. ›››

Watch: Intriguing Sci-Fi Short 'Nano' Shows a Nanotechnology Future

    Nano Sci-Fi Short Film

Is this the future we might live in if nanotechnology continues to develop? Check out this intriguing sci-fi short film titled Nano, from filmmaker Mike Manning, presenting a futuristic world where nanotechnology inside our bodies syncs with apps in order to change our experiences as human beings. It’s a cool concept, and we probably will see something like this sometime in the future. However, I’m not a big fan of the film itself. It seems way too obsessed with sex and vanity than the technology, and the performances aren’t that good either. I really wish this was better than it is, because I would be much more excited about it. That said, I’m featuring this anyway as a cool proof-of-concept short for those who still want to watch. Have fun. ›››

  • Beautiful Second Trailer for Bong Joon Ho's Animal Rescue Film 'Okja'

Beautiful Second Trailer for Bong Joon Ho's Animal Rescue Film 'Okja'

    Okja Trailer

“Everything you believe you know about Okja is a lie.” Netflix has launched a second full-length trailer for Bong Joon Ho’s Okja, which premiered at the Cannes Film Festival last month to quite a bit of good buzz. The film stars Ahn Seo-hyun as a girl named Mija who befriends a giant pig-hippo-cow creature she calls Okja. When the company that created Okja comes to collect it, Mija goes off on adventure trying to rescue and bring her home. Tilda Swinton is back (from Snowpiercer) in the cast, along with Jake Gyllenhaal, Paul Dano, Lily Collins, Steven Yeun, Giancarlo Esposito, Devon Bostick, Shirley Henderson, Daniel Henshall, and Choi Woo-shik. I saw this in Cannes and enjoyed it, saying in my review: “Only someone as daring, innovative and skilled as Bong Joon Ho could come up with and pull off a film like this.” ›››

  • Second Trailer for Comedy 'Home Again' Starring Reese Witherspoon

Second Trailer for Comedy 'Home Again' Starring Reese Witherspoon

    Home Again Trailer

“Let’s just do our best not to cramp each other’s style.” Open Road Films has debuted a full trailer for the comedy Home Again, the feature directorial debut of young filmmaker Hallie Meyers-Shyer. This amusing original Hollywood comedy is about a recently divorced woman who moves back home to Los Angeles with her two young daughters. She decides to take in three aspiring filmmaker boys who share her place with her, and disrupt things in both helpful ways and troubling ways. Reese Witherspoon stars, with Michael Sheen, Lake Bell, Candice Bergen, Nat Wolff, Jon Rudnitsky, Pico Alexander, P.J. Byrne. There is something about this film that is really annoying to me. The first teaser was good, this trailer not so much. ›››

  • First Full Trailer for 'Daddy's Home 2' Comedy Sequel No One Wanted

First Full Trailer for 'Daddy's Home 2' Comedy Sequel No One Wanted

    Daddy's Home 2 Trailer

“Look who’s here!” Paramount has debuted the first official trailer for Daddy’s Home 2, the sequel to the comedy Daddy’s Home, about a stepfather who has to deal with a crazy biological father. Why did they make a sequel to this? I don’t remember anyone saying anything good about it or hearing about it being a hit. Ugh. Daddy’s Home 2 brings back director Sean Anders, as well as stars Mark Wahlberg, Will Ferrell, and Linda Cardellini. Newcomers for this sequel include John Cena, John Lithgow, and surprisingly, Mel Gibson. This looks as terrible as you’re expecting, with cheap, excruciating humor and an absurdly cliche scenario that honestly seems kind of offensive. But whatever. I definitely won’t be seeing this load of junk. ›››

Must Watch: First Trailer for 'Nobody Speak: Trials of the Free Press'

Nobody Speak: Trials of the Free Press Trailer

“He’s doing this because he wants to bring Gawker down.” Netflix has premiered the official trailer for the documentary Nobody Speak: Trials of the Free Press, the latest from acclaimed filmmaker Brian Knappenberger, of the docs We Are Legion: The Story of the Hacktivists and The Internet’s Own Boy: The Story of Aaron Swartz. Knappenberger is one of my favorite doc filmmakers, as he understands the internet better than most people, and always sheds a light on the truth no matter how hard it is to find. Nobody Speak dives deep into the case of Hulk Hogan (aka Terry Bollea) vs Gawker. Unfortunately, Gawker lost the trial and they had to shut down because of this defeat. The film looks at how the idea of a free press is fading away, and the most powerful people with the most money are taking control over everything. This premiered at Sundance and it’s a riveting, frightening, remarkable doc that you should take time to watch. ›››

Official Trailer for 'Bronx Gothic' Doc About Artist Okwui Okpokwasili

    Bronx Gothic Doc Trailer

“I wanted a voice screaming out into the wilderness of ‘I am here and this is what is happening to me.’” Grasshopper Film has debuted an outstanding official trailer for a performance documentary titled Bronx Gothic, profiling the performances by and life of acclaimed artist/dancer Okwui Okpokwasili. This is the latest doc from director Andrew Rossi, who previously made Page One: Inside the New York Times, Ivory Tower, and The First Monday in May. Okwui has African parents, but she grew up in Brooklyn, and brings all of that to her powerful theatrical performances. This trailer gives an excellent introduction to who she is, what she’s trying to do, and how she tells her story with her body in front of mesmerized crowds. This looks like an eye-opening, emotional doc that examines the breathtaking work of a truly gifted artist. Have a look. ›››

Full Trailer for Time-Loop Horror 'Happy Death Day' from Blumhouse

    Happy Death Day Trailer

“I’ve already lived through this day! Somebody’s going to kill me tonight…” Universal has unveiled the first full-length trailer for a new original horror movie titled Happy Death Day, formerly/also known as Half to Death while it was still in development. Directed by Christopher Landon, the time-loop horror story is about a college student who relives the day of her murder until she finds out who the killer is. The film stars Jessica Rothe, Israel Broussard, Ruby Modine, Rachel Matthews, Charles Aitken, Jason Bayle, and Phi Vu. I’m always interested in time-loop movies (and we already had one this year – Before I Fall) and this looks like a fun horror twist on the concept. I want to see how she solves her own murder. Dive in. ›››

Impressive Second Trailer for Kathryn Bigelow's 'Detroit' Riots Movie

    Detroit Trailer

“It’s a war zone out there. They’re destroying the city.” Annapurna has debuted a second trailer for Kathryn Bigelow’s next film titled Detroit, about the Detroit Riots in 1967. The film features an ensemble cast of characters to tell the story of why so many citizens decided to rise up, and how the riot expanded so quickly to become so massive that the President had to send in federal troops to get things under control. The huge cast includes John Boyega, Jack Reynor, Will Poulter, Ben O’Toole, Hannah Murray, Anthony Mackie, Jacob Latimore, Algee Smith, Joseph David-Jones, Kaitlyn Dever, Jason Mitchell, John Krasinski, Jeremy Strong, and Laz Alonso. This trailer focuses on Boyega’s character, who got mixed up in all the chaos. I like the appearance at the end by the real guy. This is looking better and better. ›››
