First Trailer for 'Goodbye Christopher Robin' with Domhnall Gleeson

    Goodbye Christopher Robin Trailer

“Hardly anyone could remember what happiness was like. But something happened that changed all that.” Fox Searchlight has unveiled the first trailer for the film Goodbye Christopher Robin, telling the true story of beloved children’s author A. A. Milne, as played by Domhnall Gleeson in the film. Set in England in the early 1900s, the story is all about how Milne came up with Winnie the Pooh, inspired by his son Christopher Robin and his stuffed animals. Along with Gleeson, the cast includes Margot Robbie as Daphne Milne, Will Tilston as C.R., plus Kelly Macdonald, Phoebe Waller-Bridge, and Stephen Campbell Moore. This seems to be a lovely relief from the heaviness of the world, focusing on the good things and the happy things that we can appreciate. There’s some cool shots in this, hopefully it’s a fine film. ›››

  • Interview: Neill Blomkamp Reveals 'Rakka' + Goal Behind Oats Studios

Interview: Neill Blomkamp Reveals 'Rakka' + Goal Behind Oats Studios

    Neill Blomkamp

It’s time to start experimenting with sci-fi again. South African filmmaker Neill Blomkamp is launching a new experimental filmmaking collective called Oats Studios. We’ve been posting previews over the last few months, but now it’s time to give fans a small taste of what’s to come. Blomkamp has launched the first project, titled Rakka, online in the form of a 20-minute short film that plays more like an extended proof-of-concept pitch reel. You can find it on Steam or watch the full thing below for free. So what exactly is Oats Studios? I talked with Neill on the phone for 30 minutes earlier this week to dive deep into the concept and figure out exactly what it is they’re trying to do. Oats is an “incubator of ideas that come from me or come from other people,” then they “put out those ideas to the audience, see how the audience feels about them.” ›››

  • Official US Trailer for Coogan & Brydon's Sequel 'The Trip to Spain'

Official US Trailer for Coogan & Brydon's Sequel 'The Trip to Spain'

    The Trip to Spain Trailer

“We should enjoy this moment guys, we’re in the sweet spot.” IFC Films has debuted another new official US trailer for The Trip to Spain, to compliment the first teaser trailer from a few months ago. The Trip to Spain is the second sequel in The Trip series (after The Trip to Italy in 2014), starring Steve Coogan and Rob Brydon as friends who go on a road trip wining and dining and doing impersonations. Early word from critics is that this is just as hilarious and ridiculous as the first two films, and might be a good bit of entertainment to catch at your local art house later this summer. The cast also includes Marta Barrio and Claire Keelan. These films don’t seem like they should work as well as they do, but damnit, they are fun. ›››

  • First Trailer for Intense Survival Film 'Jungle' Starring Daniel Radcliffe

First Trailer for Intense Survival Film 'Jungle' Starring Daniel Radcliffe

    Jungle Movie Trailer

“This is the last frontier on Earth. The jungle shows us what we really are.” An official trailer has debuted for a new survival thriller titled Jungle, based on the true story of Yossi Ghinsberg (and his book), who got lost in the Amazon rainforests with a few of his friends. This is the next film from Australian director Greg McLean, who also directed the action horror The Belko Experiment in theaters earlier this year and the Wolf Creek films. Daniel Radcliffe stars as Yossi, along with a cast including Alex Russell, Joel Jackson and Thomas Kretschmann. This looks crazy intense and brutal, which is expected for a survival movie, but I’m impressed by the attention to detail and beauty of the Amazon jungle that McLean has captured. The film is premiering at the Melbourne Film Festival, which is where this first trailer comes from. Watch below. ›››

  • Official Trailer for Doc 'Whitney: Can I Be Me' About Whitney Houston

Official Trailer for Doc 'Whitney: Can I Be Me' About Whitney Houston

Whitney: Can I Be Me Doc Trailer

“Success doesn’t change you, fame does.” Showtime has debuted the first official trailer for a documentary titled Whitney: Can I Be Me, telling the full story of singer/actress Whitney Houston’s extraordinary life and tragic death. The doc premiered at the Tribeca Film Festival earlier this year, and will be released by Showtime later this summer. Houston is the only artist to chart seven consecutive #1 Billboard Hot 100 songs, and she released seven studio albums and two soundtrack albums over the course of her singing career. She was found dead in her bathtub inside of her guest room at a hotel in Los Angeles in 2012. This trailer is a good sell, ending with the claim that she died of a broken heart. This looks like it’s worth a watch. ›››

  • Second Trailer for 'Ferdinand' Movie About a Bull Who Loves Flowers

Second Trailer for 'Ferdinand' Movie About a Bull Who Loves Flowers

    Ferdinand Movie Trailer

“Built to fight, born to love.” 20th Century Fox and Blue Sky Studios have unveiled a second official trailer for the animated film Ferdinand, about a bull raised by a family in Spain and taken to be a fighter, who really prefers to smell flowers instead of battle against matadors. John Cena voices Ferdinand the bull, which might be one of the best voice choices all year. The rest of the voice cast includes Kate McKinnon, Gina Rodriguez, Daveed Diggs, Gabriel Iglesias, Bobby Cannavale, David Tennant, Anthony Anderson, Flula Borg, Jerrod Carmichael, Boris Kodjoe, and Raúl Esparza. This looks charming and heartwarming, with a good message about animals/people being more than they seem on the surface. ›››

  • Official Trailer for Another PTSD Film 'Battle Scars' with Zane Holtz

Official Trailer for Another PTSD Film 'Battle Scars' with Zane Holtz

    Battle Scars Trailer

“True valor does not require recognition.” Gravitas Ventures has debuted a trailer for a drama titled Battle Scars, yet another movie about a soldier with PTSD returning home to America. The description says this “examines the war experience as well as the wrenching change many veterans face upon returning home.” I hate to say it, but these kind of PTSD movies with this exact pitch are a dime a dozen these days. There’s nothing creative or unique or interesting about them anymore. But maybe that’s just me. Battle Scars stars Zane Holtz (seen on “From Dusk Till Dawn: The Series”), Heather McComb, Ryan Eggold, Fairuza Balk, and David James Elliot. This does not look like it’s worth your time, but the trailer is free to watch. ›››

  • Trailer for Disney Short 'Olaf's Frozen Adventure' Playing Before 'Coco'

Trailer for Disney Short 'Olaf's Frozen Adventure' Playing Before 'Coco'

    Olaf's Frozen Adventure Trailer

“Do we have any traditions, Elsa?” Disney has unveiled a trailer for their new animated short film, titled Olaf’s Frozen Adventure, which will play before Pixar’s Coco in theaters this November. It’s a bit odd that there is no new Pixar short playing before the new Pixar movie, but I guess this might get people into theaters. Olaf’s Frozen Adventure is a 21-minute (!!) short film spin-off from Disney’s Frozen, featuring 4 new original songs and lots of extra time with the lovable snowman Olaf, as voiced by Josh Gad. There are also appearances by Elsa (Idina Menzel), and Anna (Kristen Bell). This looks wild and wacky and full of holiday magic and cheer, plus it should be a nice holdover for those anxiously awaiting Frozen 2. Have fun! ›››

  • First Trailer for Sundance Breakout 'Brigsby Bear' Starring Kyle Mooney

First Trailer for Sundance Breakout 'Brigsby Bear' Starring Kyle Mooney

    Brigsby Bear Trailer

“May our minds be stronger tomorrow.” Sony Classics has revealed the first trailer for indie film Brigsby Bear, one of the breakout hits of the Sundance Film Festival this year. The film stars Kyle Mooney (from SNL) as a kid who has grown up locked in an underground bunker, watching one and only one TV show over-and-over – called Brigsby Bear. One day everything stops, and he has to deal with the real world. That’s all I’ll say, because this film is best experienced without knowing much more than that. The cast includes Mark Hamill, Greg Kinnear, Claire Danes, Ryan Simpkins, Andy Samberg, Michaela Watkins, Jane Adams, and Chance Crimin. The film played at Sundance and Cannes (read my glowing review) and it’s a special film, for many reasons, but most of all it’s a lover letter to the power of storytelling. Enjoy. ›››

  • Stunning First Trailer for Documentary 'Mountain' with Live Orchestra

Stunning First Trailer for Documentary 'Mountain' with Live Orchestra

    Mountain Documentary Trailer

“What is this strange force that draws us upwards?” This looks spectacular! An official trailer has debuted for a new documentary experienced titled Mountain, an exploration of the mountains of the world. This is the new film from the director of the documentary Sherpa, named Jennifer Peedom, which was one of my favorite films of 2015, and she has gone all out bringing in some of the most mesmerizing and incredible footage of mountains and mountain climbing you’ve ever seen. In addition, there’s a narration by Willem Dafoe and a beautiful orchestral score by the Australian Chamber Orchestra. If you’re lucky to catch this on its tour, it’s being performed with a live orchestra, which is even more magical. The film just premiered at the Sydney Film Festival to rave reviews, and hopefully will show up in America soon. Must watch first look. ›››
