New Trailer for That Controversial Bruce Lee Film 'Birth of the Dragon'

    Birth of the Dragon Trailer

“Sooner or later, gunna have to fight him.” BH Tilt has just unveiled a brand new trailer for Birth of the Dragon, a fictional feature based on the true story of the legendary Bruce Lee. This film is controversial because it’s not an accurate depiction of the events or the history of Bruce Lee, and features a white main character despite focusing on Lee. Starring Philip Ng as a cocky, young Bruce Lee living in San Francisco training and teaching his kung fu skills. He is confronted by a legendary Shaolin monk named Wong Jack Man, played by Yu Xia, who is upset that he is sullying the art and spirituality of kung fu. The main white guy is played by Billy Magnussen, with a cast including Jin Xing, Jingjing Qu, and Simon Yin. The publicity is keen to point out that this is a brand new cut of the film, not the version shown at TIFF last year. ›››

  • Official Trailer for Comedy 'The Layover' Directed by William H. Macy

Official Trailer for Comedy 'The Layover' Directed by William H. Macy

    The Layover Trailer

“I want him!” “Not this time…” Vertical Entertainment and DirecTV have released the first foul-mouthed trailer for a comedy titled The Layover, directed by actor-turned-filmmaker William H. Macy (his second film after Rudderless a few years back). The spunky comedy stars Alexandra Daddario and Kate Upton as best friends who get stuck in St. Louis on an extended layover. Along the way they meet and fall for the same guy, played by Matt Barr, and end up battling for his affection. The full cast includes Matt Jones, Molly Shannon, Kal Penn, and Rob Corddry. This looks mildly entertaining, but also very cliche and generic, but I’m not surprised. Don’t really think this is for me, but I’m sure some people will love it. Enjoy. ›››

New Trailer for Destin Cretton's 'The Glass Castle' Starring Brie Larson

    The Glass Castle Trailer

“I can’t let you cling to the side your whole life just ’cause you’re scared.” Lionsgate has released a second trailer for the film The Glass Castle, the latest feature from filmmaker Destin Daniel Cretton (I Am Not a Hipster, Short Term 12). From the looks of it, this is going to be something very special. Brie Larson plays Jeannette Walls, a woman who grew up in a dysfunctional family of nonconformist nomads with an eccentric mother and alcoholic father. The full cast features Naomi Watts & Woody Harrelson (as her mother & father, respectively), Sarah Snook, Max Greenfield, Brigette Lundy-Paine, and others. This looks like it has such strong emotions and will be very powerful and heart-wrenching to watch. See below. ›››

  • First Trailer for Indie Crime Comedy '68 Kill' with AnnaLynne McCord

First Trailer for Indie Crime Comedy '68 Kill' with AnnaLynne McCord

    68 Kill Trailer

“Deranged human beings doing awful things.” IFC Midnight has revealed a trailer for a film titled 68 Kill, a crime comedy from actor/director Trent Haaga. The quotes in this trailer seem to describe it better than anything else: “a white-trash, punk-rock, blood-soaked romp” and “brilliantly, utterly insane.” The film stars Matthew Gray Gubler as Chip, and AnnaLynne McCord as his girlfriend, who comes up with a plan to rip off her rich sugar daddy. Of course, everything falls apart and Chip tries to straighten things out but ends up on a wild ride. The cast includes Alisha Boe, Sheila Vand, Sam Eidson, Michael Beasley, James Moses Black, David Maldonado, Ajay Mehta, Hallie Grace Bradley, and Lucy Faust. This definitely looks insane, like something to watch late on a weekend after you’ve had a few beers with friends. ›››

  • See Gary Oldman as Winston Churchill in Official 'Darkest Hour' Trailer

See Gary Oldman as Winston Churchill in Official 'Darkest Hour' Trailer

    Darkest Hour Trailer

“You cannot reason with a tiger when your head is in its mouth!” Focus Features has unveiled the first trailer for Joe Wright’s Darkest Hour, the second film this year about Winston Churchill (the other one is called Churchill starring Brian Cox). This is the film that stars the very talented Gary Oldman under heavy prosthetic as Winston Churchill, giving a powerful, commanding cigar-chomping performance. The focus in this film is on Churchill’s first few days as Prime Minister, deciding whether or not to agree to a peace treaty with Nazi Germany or fight back and rally the troops. The cast includes Lily James, Ben Mendelsohn, Stephen Dillane, Kristin Scott Thomas, Charley Palmer Rothwell, Ronald Pickup, Nicholas Jones, Hannah Steele, Richard Lumsden, and Jeremy Child. This looks much, much better than the other Churchill film. And hopefully this will get Oldman an Oscar nomination – it definitely seems possible. ›››

  • Another Official Trailer for 'American Assassin' Starring Dylan O'Brien

Another Official Trailer for 'American Assassin' Starring Dylan O'Brien

    American Assassin Trailer

“You want a killer? Here he is.” Lionsgate UK has released another new full-length trailer for the action thriller titled American Assassin, adapted from Vince Flynn’s novel of the same name. We’ve seen two full trailers for this already, but this new one packs in even more action and shows us a few extra scenes we haven’t seen yet. The film is about Mitch Rapp, an “ordinary every day all-American athlete and scholar” recruited by the CIA, becoming one of the best assassins they’ve ever seen, but he gets into trouble on an assignment in Beirut. The Maze Runner star Dylan O’Brien plays Mitch, and the cast includes Michael Keaton, Taylor Kitsch, Sanaa Lathan, Scott Adkins, David Suchet, as well as Shiva Negar. They’re really trying to sell this hard, and it looks okay. I’m mostly curious about the big wave – must be detonation? ›››

  • First Teaser Trailer for Xavier Gens' Chilly New Sci-Fi Film 'Cold Skin'

First Teaser Trailer for Xavier Gens' Chilly New Sci-Fi Film 'Cold Skin'

    Cold Skin Teaser Trailer

Now what do we have here? There’s a very brief teaser trailer going around for a film called Cold Skin, the latest feature from French filmmaker Xavier Gens (of Frontier(s) and The Divide). The teaser trailer doesn’t show much, but there are a bunch of photos from the set and a few posters that give us a good look at the weird “humanoid killer amphibians”. Set on a desolate island in the Antarctic Circle, the film tells of a man living there who discovers that at night the island is overrun by these creatures. The cast includes David Oakes, Ray Stevenson, and Aura Garrido as Aneris, who seems to be one of these creatures that he falls in love with (see photo above). I’m certainly very curious about this, and I hope we get to see more footage sooner than later. For now, this is all we have but it’s worth a look. Check out this shot of Gens, too. ›››

Recap of My Experience at the Karlovy Vary Film Festival in Czechia

    Karlovy Vary Film Festival

There are film festivals that take place in big cities, with screenings at huge performance venues, and lines that go down the block. Then there’s festivals that take place in tiny towns, where dedicated cinephiles go to discover amazing films big and small. The Karlovy Vary Film Festival is one of these outstanding little festivals that takes place in a small spa town in the Czech Republic Czechia. This was my first year attending Karlovy Vary, which I had heard great things about from many colleagues for years, and it lives up to the hype. It’s an excellent festival in a beautiful town nestled in the hills, and they show tons of stellar films. Coincidentally, I’d already seen many of their big centerpieces (A Ghost Story, Wind River, The Big Sick, Columbus) at other festivals but was still happy to stop by for a week of catching up with other great films. ›››

Watch: Terrifying New Oats Studios Film 'Zygote' with Dakota Fanning

    Zygote Short Film

“It’s coming no matter what we do!” Buckle up, you’re in for a crazy ride. These films are getting better and better! Oats Studios has unveiled their next new short film, titled Zygote, an intense horror action story starring Dakota Fanning and Jose Pablo Cantillo. This is perhaps the most cinematic film that Oats has released yet. Directed by the main man himself, Neill Blomkamp, this film features one helluva gnarly monster that appears halfway through. I also love the score, by Lorne Balfe, which makes this feel even more intense. At the bottom of the post, I’ve included a few answers from Blomkamp to follow-up questions after my first interview about Oats. It’s so awesome to see them experimenting with projects like this that would never ever see the light of day in Hollywood, but now we get a chance to experience them. Get ready! ›››

New Official US Trailer for Action Film 'Pilgrimage' with Jon Bernthal

    Pilgrimage Trailer

“A powerful man does not become so without sin.” RLJ Entertainment has unveiled a second trailer for the indie action thriller Pilgrimage, set in Ireland during the 13th century. The story follows a group of monks who must escort a sacred relic across the “Irish landscape fraught with peril”. Starring Richard Armitage, Tom Holland, John Lynch, Stanley Weber, Lochlann O’Mearáin, Hugh O’Conor, Eric Godon, plus the badass Jon Bernthal as a character named “The Mute”. We already posted the first official trailer for this earlier in the year, but I’m glad to see another one reminding us that this is finally coming out soon. They’re obviously playing up Tom Holland from Spider-Man: Homecoming, but the entire cast looks great. ›››
