“Do you know about me?” STX Entertainment has unveiled the first official trailer for Molly’s Game, the directorial debut of screenwriter Aaron Sorkin. Sorkin directs from his own script, based on the true story of Molly Bloom, adapted from her memoir. Jessica Chastain plays Molly Bloom, a young Olympic-class skier from Colorado who ran the world’s most exclusive high-stakes poker game for a decade before being arrested in the middle of the night by 17 FBI agents. This also stars Idris Elba, Chris O’Dowd, Kevin Costner, Michael Cera, Natalie Krill, Joe Keery, Bill Camp, and plenty of others. This seems like an entertaining story for a movie, especially from Sorkin who has likely whipped this up into something special. ›››

“This is going to be fun.” RLJ Entertainment has unleashed another new full-length trailer for an under-the-radar sci-fi epic titled The Osiris Child, or rather, The Osiris Child: Science Fiction Volume One in full. You may remember hearing about this, as we posted an international trailer earlier in the year. It’s not getting a US release in the fall. Set in the future in a time of interplanetary colonization, the story is about a drifter, played by Kellan Lutz, who gets mixed up with a lieutenant named Kane who works for a military contractor. They form an alliance and head out to rescue Kane’s daughter amid an impending global crisis. Also stars Daniel MacPherson, Isabel Lucas, Rachel Griffiths, and Teagan Croft. This seems crazy ambitious with impressive VFX for an indie production, I just hope it isn’t a complete disaster. Take a look. ›››

However, movie posters have a glorious history, originating as hand-painted pieces of art that were just as iconic and unforgettable as the movie itself. This new infographic takes a look back at “The Evolution of Movie Posters“, featuring 12 different designs ranging from the 1950s to the 00s. It highlights some of the best movie posters in Hollywood history, and discusses how the design and style of posters has changed over time. “The machine is incredible!” “Pure, unfiltered truth.” Ready to remember all of your memories? Lionsgate has debuted the official trailer for an indie sci-fi film titled Rememory, which premiered at the Sundance Film Festival earlier this year. This is one of a few subtle indie sci-fi films that played at the festival, along with Marjorie Prime and The Discovery. The gimmick in this is a device that can extract, record and play a person’s memories. The inventor is found dead, and his wife retreats into her home until a mysterious man shows up and begins investigating what exactly happened. Peter Dinklage stars, with Julia Ormond, Martin Donovan, Evelyne Brochu, Henry Ian Cusick, and the late Anton Yelchin. The film received pretty bad reviews out of Sundance, and while I am somewhat intrigued, this trailer doesn’t really grab me. ›››

“You can have anything you want in this world, as long as you know how to steal it.” Epic Releasing has debuted a trailer for an action thriller titled Last Rampage, about the true story of a notorious prison break in Arizona in 1978. The film stars Robert Patrick as Gary Tison, a convicted murderer who escaped from prison with his cellmate, played by Chris Browning. While the sheriff, played by Bruce Davison, was hunting him down the two went on a murderous rampage. The film features a “chilling tour-de-force turn by Robert Patrick” in a story “about the dark side of family loyalty.” The full cast includes Heather Graham, Molly C. Quinn, Jason James Richter, William Shockley, and the late John Heard. This looks very gritty and violent, perhaps it’s an uncomfortable film to watch, but maybe there’s something to it. ›››

“Thank you very much!” “You’re not welcome!” A24 has debuted the first official trailer for the outstanding indie film The Florida Project, the latest feature from Tangerine director Sean Baker. This premiered at the Cannes Film Festival this year to rave reviews – read mine here. The film tells the story of Halley, played by Bria Vinaite, and her daughter Moonee, played by Brooklynn Prince. They live at The Magic Castle, a motel in Orlando just in the backyard of Disneyland. Moonee and her friends run around causing all kinds of trouble and it’s such a delight to watch them. Willem Dafoe also stars in one of his best performances of his career, and I really mean that. This film is really something special, and you can see why with this trailer – which captures the magic and charm of this beautiful film just perfectly. One of the year’s best indie gems. ›››

“Sometime we have to go through something to get through something.” Gravitas Ventures has debuted the official US trailer for an indie drama titled Free In Deed, which first premiered at the Venice Film Festival back in 2015. It also played at numerous film festivals in 2016, and is just now getting a very small release starting September this year. Free In Deed takes place in the world of converted storefront churches, following one man’s attempt to perform a miracle. English actor David Harewood (from “Supergirl”, “The Night Manager”, “Homeland”, The Brothers Grimsby) stars as a Pentecostal minister whose dedication to God is tested when approached by a desperate mother and her troubled son. The full cast includes Edwina Findley, Kathy Smith, and RaJay Chandler. This looks very powerful and entirely unique, worth a look. ›››

“Isn’t it amazing that all of this came out of that little book?” The Orchard has revealed an official trailer for the documentary titled Monkey Business: The Adventures of Curious George’s Creators, telling the story of the creators of everyone’s favorite little monkey, Curious George. Created by Hans and Margret Rey, they eventually had to flee from Paris at the beginning of World War II to escape the Nazis, and they were luckily able to smuggle out the first manuscript of what would become the very first Curious George book. The doc tells their story, not only escaping the Nazis, but also how they came together and originally envisioned the idea for the beloved children’s books. Monkey Business was successfully got funding on Kickstarter in 2016, and will be released this month for anyone excited to watch this. Featuring narration by Sam Waterson, and adorable animated scenes, this looks like a good watch with the whole family. Enjoy. ›››

Reports are going around that Studio Ghibli has re-opened its doors, started hiring a new team of animators, and will soon start working on a brand new project. It was massive, heartbreaking news a fear years ago when legendary animator Hayao Miyazaki announced his retirement (after finishing The Wind Rises in 2013) and then subsequently the studio he helped start, Studio Ghibli, decided to stop making new films and instead focus on monetizing their old filmography. In the last few years, Miyazaki kept himself busy by making an animated short film for the Ghibli Museum in Tokyo. But now the studio is back from the dead and Miyazaki has a new idea for a film, which is what this is about. ›››

“You are so thoughtful – as if you’d have any idea what a ‘keeper’ was.” Vertical Entertainment has debuted the first official trailer for an indie comedy titled The Wilde Wedding, about a wedding that gets a bit crazy (if the title wasn’t already an indication of that). The two people getting hitched are played by Glenn Close and Patrick Stewart, a retired film star marrying a renowned English writer. The rest of the “wild” ensemble cast of great actors includes John Malkovich, Minnie Driver, Jack Davenport, Yael Stone, Peter Facinelli, Noah Emmerich, and Grace Van Patten. I’m not sure where this came from, as I’ve never heard of the film before, but it looks entertaining in an awkward dysfunctional comedy way. There’s tons of sexual tension being built up and released in this trailer, so make sure you wear a condom. Have fun. ›››
