    Polina Doc Trailer

“I don’t want to see a pretty dancer, I want to see Polina dancing.” Oscilloscope Labs has debuted a trailer for a dance film titled Polina, telling the story of a classically trained ballet dancer who decides to switch to contemporary dance. This decisions “throws everything into question on a profound level”, taking her on a journey of discovery and understanding. This is a full-on dance film through and through, made by two filmmakers with an extensive background in dance. Anastasia Shevtsova, a professional dancer who has performed with Saint Petersburg’s Mariinsky Theatre, stars as Polina. The cast includes Niels Schneider, Jeremie Belingard, and Juliette Binoche, who has danced with London-based choreographer Akram Khan. This looks very kinetic and unique, taking dance and the commitment involved to a whole other level. ›››

First Full Trailer for Armando Iannucci's New Film 'The Death of Stalin'

    The Death of Stalin Trailer

“I have no idea what is going on!” Entertainment One in the UK has debuted the first official trailer for Armando Iannucci’s new film, The Death of Stalin, a darkly comic look at the internal political landscape of 1950’s Soviet Russia. Based on Fabien Nury’s graphic novel, film is about Russian dictator Joseph Stalin’s last days and the disorganized chaos of the regime after his death in 1953 and 30 years of iron-fisted rule. Adrian McLoughlin plays Joseph Stalin, with an ensemble cast of characters including Rupert Friend, Steve Buscemi, Olga Kurylenko, Jason Isaacs, Andrea Riseborough, Jeffrey Tambor, Paddy Considine, Michael Palin, and Jonathan Aris. This looks like another brilliant, hilarious political satire from Armando Iannucci that might be perfect entertainment for the times. Just fire up the trailer and enjoy. ›››

  • First Eerie Trailer for Brazilian Horror 'Good Manners' Playing at Sitges

First Eerie Trailer for Brazilian Horror 'Good Manners' Playing at Sitges

    Good Manners Trailer

“Is he normal?” A trailer has arrived online for a Brazilian fantasy horror film titled Good Manners, which just premiered at the Locarno Film Festival in Switzerland and is also playing at the Sitges Film Festival coming up. The story is about a lonely nurse hired by a wealthy, mysterious woman named Ana to be the the nanny for her unborn child. But she soon realizes things are a bit strange when she discovers Ana sleepwalks around the house at night looking for prey. Isabél Zuaa stars, with a cast including Marjorie Estiano, Miguel Lobo, Cida Moreira, Andréa Marquee, and Felipe Kenji. This looks very peculiar and eerie, but it’s that final shot with the freaky dog (boy?) that really sells this. I dig the hand drawn poster art, too. ›››

  • Official Trailer for Awful-Looking Action Horror Movie 'Demon Hunter'

Official Trailer for Awful-Looking Action Horror Movie 'Demon Hunter'

    Demon Hunter Trailer

“The battle for our souls has begun!” I don’t know what this is and it doesn’t look any good, but there’s not many new trailers this week, so check it out. Wild Eye Releasing has debuted an official trailer for a low budget action horror film called Demon Hunter, formerly known as Taryn Barker: Demon Hunter. The story follows a detective whose daughter is abducted by a powerful man named Falstaff, a demonic force that has terrorized his town before. A young girl who is brought into the station is their only hope to help find and save his daughter. The full cast includes Niamh Hogan, Alan Talbot, Kevin O’Malley, Nic Furlong, Sarah Tapes Jenkinson, and Margarita Grillis. This apparently has touches of “Buffy The Vampire Slayer” and Underworld, though it’s hard to tell in this footage, but it really looks awful. Avoid it. ›››

Watch: Robert Pattinson's Short 'Fear & Shame' About a NYC Hot Dog

    Fear & Shame Short Film

“Where is the man with the hot dog?” There’s an odd little short film going around this week, debuted by GQ.com as part of their cover story on Robert Pattinson. The short film is called Fear & Shame and is written & directed by & starring Robert Pattinson. It is essentially just a 2.5 minute short about Pattinson running around New York City trying to find a hot dog to eat. He rambles on about fame and shame and fear and more while desperately trying to avoid the paparazzi. This doesn’t have too much going on in it, but it’s all from his perspective with some wacky voice-over, so why not enjoy. Plus, who doesn’t love NYC hot dogs? ›››

On a Road of Personal Discovery in First Trailer for 'In Search of Fellini'

    In Search of Fellini Trailer

“This is your life – what do you want to do?” Ambi Media Group and Spotted Cow Entertainment debuted an official trailer for an indie coming-of-age film called In Search of Fellini, which is indeed about a young woman’s search for Fellini. Ksenia Solo stars as a shy small-town Ohio girl who discovers Federico Fellini’s “delightfully bizarre films” (see IMDb) and sets off on a journey across Italy to find him. Along the way, she discovers herself and romance and tasty Italian candy and much more. The cast includes Maria Bello, Mary Lynn Rajskub, Beth Riesgraf, Andrea Osvárt, and David O’Donnell. This looks quite adorable, and cute, very much a film-lovers adventure, though it does seem a bit cliche with its story. Enjoy. ›››

  • Official Trailer for 'The Challenge' Doc About Amateur Falconry in Qatar

Official Trailer for 'The Challenge' Doc About Amateur Falconry in Qatar

    The Challenge Documentary

“Luxuriously alluring.” Kino Lorber has debuted an official trailer for a stunning documentary called The Challenge, which has been playing at film festivals all over the world picking up all kinds of prizes. The film examines the world of wealthy Qatari sheikhs with a passion for amateur falconry, who collect and train their prized pet falcons, flying them in private jets around the world, and taking them for rides in their fancy cars. If, like me, your first thought is wait I’ve never heard of this before and it sounds totally amazing and I want to learn more about this, then this doc is for you. There’s some really stunning footage in this, and it looks like it’s more of a visual essay than just a simple doc, which makes me even more intrigued to see this. ›››

    Our Souls at Night Trailer

Hello again, you two. Netflix has released the first official trailer for Ritesh Batra’s new film Our Souls at Night, a new romantic drama starring Robert Redford and Jane Fonda, who have appeared together four times in films, starting with Barefoot in the Park over fifty years ago. The story is about two people who are neighbors in a small town in Colorado, but had little contact. They finally connect and romance sparks, as they try to make the most of the rest of the time they have. In addition to Redford and Fonda, the film stars Bruce Dern, Matthias Schoenaerts, Judy Greer and Iain Armitage. This teaser trailer doesn’t show much at all, but it is a nice teaser and is just enough for me to be interested. I’ll be catching this at the Venice Film Festival where it will premiere soon, and I’m looking forward to some sweet, sweet romance. ›››

The catch – he finds a magical box of animal crackers that allows him to transform into any of the animals in his box. He thinks this might save the circus, until he discovers he has to go up against his long lost evil uncle – Horatio P. Huntington. The extensive voice cast in Animal Crackers includes John Krasinski, Emily Blunt, Danny DeVito, Ian McKellen, Raven-Symoné, Sylvester Stallone, Patrick Warburton, Tara Strong, Lydia Rose Taylor, Wallace Shawn, Gilbert Gottfried, Harvey Fierstein, and Kevin Grevioux.
