Second Trailer for Eli Roth's Latest 'Death Wish' Starring Bruce Willis

    Death Wish Remake Trailer

“If a man really wants to protect what’s his, he has to do it for himself.” MGM has launched the second official trailer for Eli Roth’s new remake of the 1974 action movie Death Wish, which originally starred Charles Bronson. We posted the first trailer back in August of last year, since it was originally scheduled to open in November, but was pushed back until release this March. This newest version of Death Wish stars Bruce Willis as a doctor at a hospital who decides to become a silent vigilante when his family is assaulted. Of course, the city begins to question whether he is a is a guardian angel or a grim reaper. Sounds like every other version of this vigilante story since the 1974 original. Also starring Vincent D’Onofrio, Elisabeth Shue, Camila Morrone, Jack Kesy, Dean Norris, Beau Knapp, Kirby Bliss Blanton, and Mike Epps. Does this look any better than the first trailer? Still doesn’t seem like this has anything new to offer. ›››

  • Spooky First Teaser Trailer for Sylvain White's 'Slender Man' Movie

Spooky First Teaser Trailer for Sylvain White's 'Slender Man' Movie

    Slender Man Movie Trailer

“He gets in your head… like a virus.” Sony has released the first teaser trailer for the spooky Slender Man movie, based on the internet meme/myth about a tall, creepy, “slender” man that haunts kids. The whole Slender Man idea has already worked its way into pop culture and reality, so of course they’ve decided to make a movie about it. And so far this seems like just another horror thriller. Slender Man stars Joey King, Julia Goldani Telles, Annalise Basso, Jaz Sinclair, Javier Botet, Kevin Chapman, and Michael Reilly Burke. This teaser is way too obvious about covering up the blood and gore in order to get an MPAA approval, and that bothers me more than any of the footage. I am curious to see more, could turn out good. ›››

  • Megalyn Echikunwoke Stars in First Trailer for Comedy 'Step Sisters'

Megalyn Echikunwoke Stars in First Trailer for Comedy 'Step Sisters'

    Step Sisters Trailer

“White people steppin’?!” “I know…” Netflix has unveiled a trailer for an indie comedy titled Step Sisters, a fictionalized feature about a step dancing competition and a sorority. Megalyn Echikunwoke stars as a top-of-the-class woman at a university who is tasked with teaching her “misbehaving, mostly white sorority how to step” but gets into all kinds of trouble when she instead decides to train her rival sorority house to get ready for the competition. The cast includes Matt McGorry, Naturi Naughton, Sheryl Lee Ralph, Marque Richardson, Eden Sher, Lyndon Smith, Gage Golightly, Nia Jervier, and Alessandra Torresani. Unfortunately, this looks pretty terrible, even though there seems to be good intentions behind it. I would recommend just watching the documentary Step instead, about actual step dancers. Have fun. ›››

  • Very Cool Trailer for Vintage Time Travel Indie Comedy 'Future '38'

Very Cool Trailer for Vintage Time Travel Indie Comedy 'Future '38'

    Future '38 Movie Trailer

“See you in 1938.” Let’s kick off the New Year by taking a time travel trip into 2018! A trailer has launched for a wacky little indie film titled Future ’38, a spoof of classic screwball comedies from the 1930s. The story involves a man being sent via time travel into the future, 80 years ahead to the year 2018, to help them figure out how to solve their problems in the past. Something about defeating Hitler, but then he falls for a young lady, and it all becomes a big mess. The film’s cast features Betty Gilpin, Nick Westrate, Ethan Phillips, Sean Young, Robert John Burke, and Ilana Becker, with an appearance by Neil deGrasse Tyson. This actually looks very fun! Yes, it’s super cheesy, but it seems like they nailed the tone and balance of humor and quirk and screwball-ness for a very amusing, entertaining little film. Might be worth a watch. ›››

Watch: Fan-Made Classic B&W Silent Film Version of Nolan's 'Dunkirk'

    Nolan's Dunkirk Silent

“Spitfires George, greatest plane ever built.” Christopher Nolan’s intense war thriller about the miraculous Dunkirk evacuation at the beginning of WWII has been earning accolades and recognition on many Top 10 lists as the year comes to an end. Dunkirk really is an outstanding movie, that is so exceptional thanks to Nolan’s expertise in crafting impeccable visuals to help viewers feel fully immersed in the story. YouTube channel “Like Stories of Old” has created a new version of Dunkirk that plays as an 8-minute black & white silent film. It’s actually kind of perfect, they get everything right, even the music and the dialogue cards. Aside from being a cool experiment in editing, it shows just how impressive Dunkirk is as visual storytelling. ›››

Looking Back: Adam Frazier's Picks for the Top 10 Best Films of 2017

Top 10 Best Films of 2017

Over the last 12 months, I’ve seen more than 100 new releases — that’s over eight days of time in total spent watching new movies — and I’m happy to report that it’s been another incredible year at the cinema, despite claims that “film is dead.” This year, I was lucky enough to see vital new work by visionary filmmakers like Denis Villeneuve, Guillermo del Toro, Steven Spielberg, and Darren Aronofsky. I witnessed soul-stirring performances by Frances McDormand, Timothee Chalamet, Mary J. Blige, Willem Dafoe, Sally Hawkins, and Michael Stuhlbarg. And I was thoroughly entertained by emotionally engaging, visually impressive blockbusters like War for the Planet of the Apes, Wonder Woman, Star Wars: The Last Jedi and Blade Runner 2049. So which films did I enjoy the most? Which are my favorites? Let’s find out. ›››

  • First Trailer for Dystopian Sci-Fi 'Virtual Revolution' Set in Paris 2047

First Trailer for Dystopian Sci-Fi 'Virtual Revolution' Set in Paris 2047

    Virtual Revolution Trailer

“Everyone wants freedom.” A trailer has debuted for an indie sci-fi film titled Virtual Revolution, which first premiered in 2016 but is just now trying to get a release. The film also goes by the title 2047 – Virtual Reality in the UK, but I suppose the “virtual reality” in the title is a bit confusing, so they’re using Virtual Revolution instead. Virtual Revolution is set in Paris in 2047, where most of the population spends their time online, connected into virtual worlds, and don’t care anymore about reality. One “hybrid” (meaning he spends half in the real world, half in the virtual world) agent, who works for the companies that run these virtual worlds, tracks down terrorists who threaten the system. The basically seems like a nice indie mashup between Blade Runner and Ready Player One. This stars Mike Dopud, Jane Badler, Jochen Hägele, Maximilien Poullein, and Kaya Blocksage. Worth a look, though I’m not sure if it’s actually any good. ›››

Watch: Polaris Castillo's Moving Lucha Libre Short Film 'El Luchador'

    El Luchador Short Film

“I’m putting an end to the tyranny! I will fight for my people. I will bring them peace and glory!” Another outstanding independent short film to watch when you have a chance. El Luchador is made by filmmaker Polaris Castillo and tells the story of a professional wrestler who goes into seclusion after his undefeated streak comes to an end. This is a very impressive, well-made, emotional short film that speaks to much more than just wrestling and the Lucha Libre life. Some of the footage reminds me a bit of Darren Aronofsky’s The Wrestler, but this goes down its own path when it comes to the actual story and characters. Fire it up below. ›››

  • Official Trailer for Daisy Aitkens' Romantic Comedy 'You, Me and Him'

Official Trailer for Daisy Aitkens' Romantic Comedy 'You, Me and Him'

    You, Me and Him Trailer

“I need you to be the person you plan to be sooner.” The first official trailer has arrived online for an indie romantic comedy titled You, Me and Him, from the UK made by Australian filmmaker Daisy Aitkens, her feature debut. You, Me and Him plays with modern relationship dynamics by introducing a lesbian couple named Olivia and Alex, played by Lucy Punch and Faye Marsay. One lady is a career driven lawyer and the other a fun loving, pot smoking layabout and their neighbour is an annoying Casanova. While neither woman ever wanted children, both end up pregnant. How’s that for a modern romantic comedy concept? The cast includes David Tennant, David Warner, Sarah Parish, Peter Davison, Gemma Jones, and Sally Phillips. From the footage in this trailer, it seems this is trying too hard to be a quirky comedy that captures society’s romance, but lacks any of the nuance or real emotions of the real world. But I don’t know. ›››
