  • Official US Trailer for Acclaimed Animation 'Bilal: A New Breed of Hero'

Official US Trailer for Acclaimed Animation 'Bilal: A New Breed of Hero'

Bilal: A New Breed of Hero Trailer

“Being a warrior won’t make you a great man. Being a great man means living without chains.” Vertical Entertainment has debuted an official trailer for an animated movie titled Bilal: A New Breed of Hero, which premiered back in 2015 and 2016 at film festivals but is just getting a theatrical release in the US in February of 2018, this year. Long delay, but this received some positive reviews so maybe it’s worth the wait. The film comes from the Middle East and is made by animation studio Barajoun Entertainment, telling the story of a boy with a dream of becoming a great warrior who is abducted into slavery. The voice cast for the English-language version of the movie includes Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje, Ian McShane, Jacob Latimore, China Anne McClain, Cynthia Kaye McWilliams, and Michael Gross. This looks like an entertaining animated adventure, telling a story that we don’t normally see on this side of the world. Enjoy. ›››

2018 Writers Guild Awards Nominees Include 'The Big Sick' & 'Logan'

2018 Writers Guild Awards Nominees - Logan

The next set of 2017 awards nominees have been revealed. The WGA Awards nominations were unveiled today, highlighting an outstanding set of the best films of the year. I’m happy to say that they’ve once again nominated truly the best screenplays from 2017, featuring many of my favorite films of the year such as Guillermo del Toro’s The Shape of Water, Luca Guadagnino’s Call Me By Your Name, James Franco’s The Disaster Artist, Greta Gerwig’s Lady Bird, and Craig Gillespie’s I, Tonya. The biggest surprises are Jordan Peele’s Get Out, Emily V. Gordon & Kumail Nanjiani’s The Big Sick, and James Mangold’s Logan, but these all deserve to be included anyway. As usual with the WGA, I’m very impressed by the nominees, as the WGA is less about popularity and truly about quality. Congrats to all. Check out the list of film nominees below. ›››

  • First Trailer for Public Library Drama 'The Public' with Emilio Estevez

First Trailer for Public Library Drama 'The Public' with Emilio Estevez

    The Public Trailer

“We’re a public library, we’re not a shelter for the homeless.” The first trailer has debuted for the latest film written & directed by Emilio Estevez (where has he been all this time?) titled The Public, which is a reference to a public library in Cincinnati. On top of writing & directing, Estevez also stars as one of the managers of the library. When an Arctic cold comes into the city, a group of homeless people decide to hold an “occupy” movement and camp out in the library. The full cast features Jena Malone, Christian Slater, Alec Baldwin, Taylor Schilling, Gabrielle Union, Michael Kenneth Williams, Jeffrey Wright, Ki Hong Lee, Richard T. Jones, and Jacob Vargas. This actually seems like a fascinating take on this kind of story. Pretty much every public library in every city has to deal with homeless people, and yet this seems to show how important this place is to the community and to these people, it’s a nice twist on the norm. I am quite curious about the various angles of this story they’re playing with in the film. Definitely worth a look. ›››

Jon Hamm & Ellen Burstyn in Trailer for Emotional Drama 'Nostalgia'

    Nostalgia Trailer

“We live our lives and ask – what do we leave behind” Bleecker Street has debuted a trailer for a film titled Nostalgia, which questions our attachment to various possessions and objects that shape our lives. Even though the word “nostalgia” is often discussed in this industry more as something Hollywood is capitalizing on to make more movies based on characters from our youth, this film is all about letting go and moving on from these attachments. Nostalgia is directed by Mark Pellington and is described as a “mosaic of stories” with a cast featuring Ellen Burstyn, Jon Hamm, Catherine Keener, Bruce Dern, John Ortiz, Nick Offerman, Amber Tamblyn, Annalise Basso, and James Le Gros. This actually looks really good, I’m curious about it. Burstyn’s voiceover sounds like it’s from the Cloud Atlas trailer, and that got my attention. ›››

  • Second Trailer for Horror 'Winchester: The House That Ghosts Built'

Second Trailer for Horror 'Winchester: The House That Ghosts Built'

Winchester: The House That Ghosts Built

“It’s gargantuan seven storied structure with no apparent rhyme or reason…” CBS Films has debuted the second official trailer for the horror thriller film titled Winchester: The House That Ghosts Built, now titled simply just Winchester (because who wants to remember that very long title, I guess?). Inspired by true events, the film tells the story of “the most haunted house in the world”, built by Sarah Winchester, played by Helen Mirren, heiress to the Winchester (weaponry) fortune. The huge house, located 50 miles outside of San Francisco, stands seven stories tall and contains hundreds of rooms. Apparently Winchester built this house as a prison, an asylum for hundreds of vengeful ghosts. The cast includes Jason Clarke, Sarah Snook, Angus Sampson, Laura Brent, Tyler Coppin, and Dawayne Jordan. This does look fairly creepy, and I’m hoping the house plays a major role with all kinds of scary things coming from inside. ›››

  • Full-Length Trailer for Action Comedy 'Game Over, Man!' from Netflix

Full-Length Trailer for Action Comedy 'Game Over, Man!' from Netflix

    Game Over, Man! Trailer

“I’m about to go explosive on these motherf*!*rs!” Netflix has debuted the full-length official trailer for the action comedy titled Game Over, Man!, the first feature film made by the “Workaholics” group. The film stars all three guys from “Workaholics” – Adam Devine, Anders Holm and Blake Anderson – and is directed by one of the creators of the show. These three actors have already landed other major roles in all kinds of movies, but this time they’re finally coming together to tell a story of three stoner gamer friends about to sign a big financing deal when their main investor is kidnapped by terrorists. These three “zeroes” become heroes (sort of) when the hotel they work at is taken hostage. This seems like a big riff on Die Hard, but with the “Workaholics” guys going stoner crazy, and it looks like hilarious fun. I’m definitely in for this. ›››

  • First Trailer for Horror 'Truth Or Dare' from Blumhouse Productions

First Trailer for Horror 'Truth Or Dare' from Blumhouse Productions

    Truth Or Dare Trailer

“Tell the truth, or you die. Do the dare, or you die. Refuse to play…” Universal has released the first official trailer for a new horror thriller movie titled Truth Or Dare, one of the latest features made by the highly successful horror studio Blumhouse Productions (Get Out, Split, Happy Death Day, The Gift), directed by the same guy who made Kick-Ass 2. There’s actually another horror Truth Or Dare movie from 2017 as well, but this one has the more impressive cast and studio behind it. Lucy Hale and Tyler Posey star in this, along with Violett Beane, Nolan Gerard Funk, Hayden Szeto, and Sophia Taylor Ali. The movie’s story obviously focuses on a “truth or dare” game that turns deadly when someone—or something—begins to punish those who tell a lie—or refuse the dare. Eye roll… come on. Only worth a look if horror is your thing. ›››
