  • See Gal Gadot and Jason Statham Destroy a Restaurant in Super Bowl 51 Ad

Super Bowl LI is still a few weeks away, but commercials for the big game have started to arrive.

One of these, from the website-building service Wix.com, stars Wonder Woman actress Gal Gadot and action movie star Jason Statham beating up bad guys in a restaurant. Check it out:

Here is the official description for the commercial: “When Felix, a business owner in a disruptive world, has to deal with Gal and Jason destroying his bistro, he keeps his cool. Why? Because with Wix, he knows he’ll always stay stunning.”

Super Bowl LI takes place on Sunday, February 5, in Houston, Texas. Last year, The Pokemon Company aired a really cool Pokemon commercial, while in previous years mobile game companies have promoted games like Clash of Clans and Game of War during the big game.

You can also expect a series of movie ads during the Super Bowl broadcast. We’ll roundup all the video game and movie trailers as the game unfolds next month.

As for which two teams will play in the big game, that will be decided this weekend. The winners of the New England Patriots/Pittsburgh Steelers and Green Bay Packers/Atlanta Falcons matchups on Sunday, January 22, will move on to compete in Super Bowl LI two weeks later.

  • PS4 Getting Ex-BioShock Dev's New Horror Game

    PS4 Getting Ex-BioShock Dev's New Horror Game

The Kickstarter-funded horror game Perception, made by a team that formed after BioShock studio Irrational Games closed, is coming to PlayStation 4.

Developer The Deep End announced this week that it partnered with the new studio Feardemic to bring the atmospheric game to Sony’s system.

    No Caption Provided

You play as a blind woman, Cassie Thornton, who must make her way through a mansion in Massachusetts. The home is occupied by a supernatural force known as “the presence.” Your only physical tools are a walking stick and a smartphone, and also, critically, your ability to hear. Every tap of the walking stick or sound creates a visualization that illuminates the world around you.

“You don’t have shotguns and magic powers and all that,” project lead Bill Gardner told GameSpot when The Deep End announced Perception back in 2015. Gardner worked at Irrational for more than a decade, most recently serving as design director for BioShock Infinite.

Overall, the game aims to capture a cat-and-mouse/hide-and-seek feeling, not unlike Alien: Isolation.

Perception plays out across a series of chapters from different eras. Each time period explains some of the terrible things that have happened inside the mansion. Once these are completed, players travel back in time–and the mansion completely changes form, from its geometry to the people and spirits dwelling inside it.

No release date for Perception’s PS4 version has been announced. The game is also in development for PC, while an Xbox One edition is a possibility.

  • Halo Wars 2 Release Date Nearing as Game Goes Gold

Microsoft and Total War developer Creative Assembly have finished development on Halo Wars 2, meaning the RTS has gone gold, 343 Industries boss Dan Ayoub announced on Twitter.

Halo Wars 2 went Gold today! Great working with this incredibly talented team! #HaloWars2 @Halo @aarongreenberg @XboxP3 pic.twitter.com/kPBxUeioxD

    — Dan Ayoub (@Danayoub) January 18, 2017

Not pictured is the team at Creative Assembly. According to Ayoub, this “kick-ass” team has been Microsoft’s partner and “deserve[s] a ton of credit; been side by side since the start.”

Halo Wars 2 launches on February 21 for Xbox One and PC, though people who buy the $80 Ultimate Edition can start playing on February 17. It is an Xbox Play Anywhere title, so buying it digitally on one platform gets you access to the other for free. All progress, including saves and achievements, are available on each platform.

In other news, an open beta for Halo Wars 2 launches on January 20. Additionally, Microsoft announced a partnership with THQ Nordic to release a disc-based physical version of the game at retail.

  • X-Men Spinoff Show Will Feature New Sentinels

X-Men Spinoff Show Will Feature New Sentinels

More details have emerges about the upcoming X-Men spinoff TV show. Last week it was revealed that the series was close to a pilot order from Fox, and now producers have confirmed that it will feature the mutant-hunting robot Sentinels.

    No Caption Provided

X-Men franchise producer Lauren Shuler Donner spoke to IGN during the recent TV Critics Association press tour, and explained that while Sentinels would be part of the show, they might not be the giant robots familiar to X-Men fans. “Matt [Nix, writer]’s show is much more a part of the [X-Men] world in terms of there are mutants, mutants are hated, and there are Sentinels–though very different from what we’ve seen before,” she said.

Sentinels first appeared in a 1965 issue of The X-Men, and also featured in the recent movies Days of Future Past and Apocalypse. While Donner didn’t elaborate on how they would differ, the budget required to include 18-foot robots could be a reason for a change in appearance.

Last week, Nix confirmed that the show would focus upon mutant teenagers who are forced to go on the run after their powers emerge, a storyline that was first rumored last year. He also stated that fans could also expect to see some familiar X-Men in there.

“There are a certain amount of [familiar] characters that I can use and am using and then other characters I’m inventing,” he said. “But everything is invented with a nod toward the existing mythology.”

The new show isn’t Fox’s first attempt at an X-Men series. In 2015 it was reported that the network was developing a show called Hellfire, but this was later abandoned in place of the new series. Another X-Men related show–Legion–is set to premiere on FX next month.

  • NFL Ratings Were Huge This Past Weekend

One major storyline around the NFL this season has been how viewership appears to be down almost across the board. This may have been true for the regular season, but the playoffs are trending in a different direction. The numbers are in from this past weekend’s divisional playoff games–and they are massive.

The Sunday, January 15 afternoon broadcast on Fox of the Green Bay Packers vs. Dallas Cowboys game was the biggest, picking up an average audience of 48.5 million viewers, according to The Hollywood Reporter. That makes it the most-watched US NFL broadcast since the Super Bowl in February 2016. The figure peaked at 62.4 million viewers when the Cowboys tied the game at the end, around 7:45 PM ET.

It was an amazing game that came down to the last play, with the Packers sealing the victory with a 51-year field goal kick by Mason Crosby.

The second game on Sunday, the AFC matchup between the Pittsburgh Steelers and the Kansas City Chiefs on NBC, also drew huge numbers. It averaged 37.1 million viewers, peaking at 39.1 million. It ended up being the most-watched primetime NFL Wild Card or Divisional Playoff matchup. This was also a close game, with the Steelers getting the win 18-16 from six field goals and no touchdowns.

The AFC and NFC Championship games between the New England Patriots and the Pittsburgh Steelers and the Green Bay Packers and the Atlanta Falcons are coming up this Sunday, January 22.

  • Freaks and Geeks Producer on If He'd Do a Reboot

Judd Apatow may be best known for his comedy films like The 40-Year Old Virgin, Knocked Up, and Trainwreck. But before those, he worked on the network TV show Freaks and Geeks, a cult hit.

Given that reboots appear to be all the rage today, would Apatow consider bringing Freaks and Geeks back for a modern audience? Don’t get your hopes up.

“I don’t want to do more Freaks & Geeks because we liked how it ended, so I feel it’s unwrapping something and seeing if you can not screw it up; I don’t think we would do that,” he told Deadline. “Also, the world has changed so much. Back then in 1999, we were talking about the pre-computer and cellphone age that was before YouTube, Google, Snapchat.”

He gave fans a glimmer of hope–but again, it sounds like it’s not going to happen.

“I don’t close the door on anything but my inclination is that we said all we had to say,” Apatow said.

Freaks and Geeks ran for one season in 1999-2000 on NBC. The show starred some actors who are now big names, including James Franco, Seth Rogen, Jason Segel, and Linda Cardellini. It was created by Paul Feig, who went on to make Hollywood movies such as Bridesmaids and the new Ghostbusters.

Generally speaking, Apatow said he has no interest in working on a network TV show again.

“I feel their shows are too short, I do not like the commercial interruptions, and I do not like the waiting on ratings to determine whether you are gong to survive,” he said. “There is limitations on content, and I hated the idea that they waited to get the ratings the next day, and if they are bad, they might pull the plug.”

Streaming networks are the preferred alternative for Apatow.

“I feel like the streaming services have created a world where there is a creative incentive to do amazing original work, and I don’t think the (broadcast) networks for all sorts of reasons could do it in a way that some other networks and streaming services can,” he said.

There has been some discussion about a new version of Freaks and Geeks. Franco said late last year that a Freaks and Geeks revival could take the form of a 20-year high school reunion.

  • Margot Robbie Looks Completely Different for Her Next Big Movie Role

Suicide Squad actress Margot Robbie’s next big movie is the upcoming Tonya Harding biopic in which she plays the embattled American figure skater. Now, People Magazine has posted an image of Robbie in character–and she looks completely different.

It appears that Robbie, 26, is wearing some kind of body suit and face prosthetic for the role. Check out the image below.

    — People Magazine (@people) January 17, 2017

As People explains, the movie tells the story of Harding preparing for the 1994 Winter Olympics and the attempts by her team to physically injure her competitor, Nancy Kerrigan, so she could not compete. A hit-man of sorts was reportedly hired to do this by Harding’s ex-husband Jeff Gillooly, who is played in the movie by Sebastian Stan. The attack took place on camera.

Kerrigan was injured in the attack but went on to compete in the ’94 Winter Olympics, winning Silver; Harding took eighth. Harding took a plea bargain to avoid prison; she was also fined $160,000.

The 30 for 30 documentary The Price of Gold is a good watch if you want to learn more before the Harding biopic opens in 2018.

  • Gears of War 4 Server Issues: Here's How Microsoft Is Responding

Gears of War 4 Server Issues: Here's How Microsoft Is Responding

Gears of War 4‘s multiplayer faced some server issues over the weekend.

In response to this, Microsoft has announced that it’s extending some services and more to make up for the downtime. Additionally, a Double XP weekend is coming up.

    No Caption Provided

In a post on the Gears of War Facebook page, Microsoft explained that it’s extending availability for the Onyx/Gold Swarm pack until Thursday morning Pacific time. Additionally, the Season Pass owners can play the Developer Playlist–featuring new maps and XP bonuses–until the same time.

“Credit and Progression rewards that were queued up from this weekend will be worked on and awarded out hopefully this week. We are actively working on this now,” Microsoft said.

As for the Double XP weekend event, it runs this coming Friday, January 20, though Sunday, January 22.

Server downtime is never fun. But it is nice to see Microsoft taking this step to try to make up for it.

Gears of War 4 multiplayer added new maps, Blood Drive and Clocktower, last week for Season Pass owners. The update that added the free maps also introduced 280 Series 2 cards. You can read more about Gears of War 4’s latest DLC here.

  • 5 Games So Far: Nintendo Exec Talks Switch Launch Lineup

5 Games So Far: Nintendo Exec Talks Switch Launch Lineup

As it stands currently, the Nintendo Switch will launch with five games this March. By comparison, there were 23 games available for the Wii U at release in 2012. One of the Switch launch games is the highly anticipated Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, but five games is a small number for some.

Now, Nintendo of America president Reggie Fils-Aime has shed some further light on the Switch’s launch lineup and more. He told GameSpot sister site that launch day, March 3, is “not the be-all and the end-all.” Aiming to address problems with the Wii U, Fils-Aime said Nintendo plans to deliver additional compelling games on a regular basis to keep current owners happy and draw in new ones.

“Launch day is not the be-all and the end-all,” Fils-Aime said. “It really is the steady pacing of content that continually reinforces for the people who bought into the platform why they made a smart choice, as well as what compels people who might be sitting on the sidelines to jump in.”

“We feel we have this great ongoing march of content to motivate you to jump into the platform.”

Fils-Aime acknowledged, as he’s done in the past, that the Wii U struggled in part because of a lack of quality games that came out on a regular basis.
