  • Horizon: Zero Dawn Release Date Moved Again in UK

Horizon: Zero Dawn looks to have been delayed slightly in the UK.

The game’s UK PlayStation Store entry states that it will unlock on March 3, 2017. That was the game’s intended UK release date before publisher Sony announced in December 2016 that it had been brought forward by two days to March 1. That now looks to have been reversed, for digital versions at least–though it is also possible that the Store listing is simply a mistake.

Global release dates appear to be unaffected by the apparent delay: the US PlayStation Store still lists the launch date as February 28, and the Australian and European store listings state a March 1 release.

GameSpot has contacted Sony for clarification. We’ll provide an update if we hear back.

Horizon: Zero Dawn was originally scheduled to release in 2016, before Sony announced a delay to 2017. Developer Guerrilla Games said at the time that the delay would afford the company “the extra time required to deliver fully on our ambitious vision for Horizon: Zero Dawn.”

Microsoft officially confirmed Scalebound’s cancellation on January 9, saying it was the result of a “careful deliberation” process. The game has since been removed from Xbox.com and videos of it are no longer available on the Xbox YouTube page.

Head of Xbox Phil Spencer later said the decision to cancel Scalebound was a “difficult” one, but added he believes the result is “better [for] Xbox gamers.”

Platinum has still not clarified whether it plans to continue developing the title separate from Microsoft. The next game from Platinum, Nier: Automata, launches for PS4 on March 7 and then on PC later in 2017. A demo for the game is available now.

  • Ben Affleck Confirms He Will Direct The Batman, Says He's "Working on it"

Ben Affleck Confirms He Will Direct The Batman, Says He's "Working on it"

Ben Affleck has confirmed that he will direct the standalone Batman movie, and that the script is still being worked on. There have been recent rumours that the film’s production may have moved back, and that Affleck might not even direct, but he has now stated that he will definitely helm the movie.

    No Caption Provided

Appearing on Jimmy Kimmel Live! to promote his new movie Live By Night, Affleck said: “I’m going to direct the next Batman. We’re working on it. It’s one of those things that’s really frustrating because like Live by Night took me a year-and-a-half to write it and get it ready. And I worked really hard. It’s just nobody gave a s**t! Nobody was like, ‘Where’s Live by Night?

“But with Batman I keep on getting, ‘Where’s the f**king Batman?!’ And I’m like, ‘Whoa, I’m working! Give me a second!’”

This follows an unconfirmed report this week from Batman-On-Film that the film, tentatively titled The Batman, would no longer begin production this spring. Earlier this month, Affleck himself seemed non-committal on the issue of whether he would direct it, stating: “If [the script] doesn’t come together in a way I think is really great I’m not going to do it.”

There has been speculation that The Batman could come out in summer 2018, though this is not confirmed.

Affleck also commented on the recently released image from the upcoming Justice League, that shows him alongside the likes of Wonder Woman and Aquaman. Responding to Kimmel’s comment on his muscular appearance, Affleck said: “I make that look pretty good! That’s not bad!”

Justice League hits theaters on November 16, 2017.

Razer CEO Min-Liang Tan has shared new details on the theft of two prototypes from the company’s booth at the Consumer Electronics Show this month.

Writing on Facebook, Tan started off by clarifying that the two stolen prototypes were both Project Valerie laptops, not the Project Ariana smart projector device. Previously, it was unclear as to which prototypes specifically were taken. Tan also shared a timeline, saying the laptops were nabbed at around 4 PM PT on Sunday, January 8 from Razer’s booth on the show floor.

Razer is offering up a $25,000 reward for people who submit new information that leads to the identification, arrest, and conviction those responsible for the theft. $25,000 is the maximum reward value; it could be lower, dependent on the value of the information.

If you have information on the theft, you can submit it to: legal@razerzone.com.

After the theft, Razer said it was working with CES show management and law enforcement to discuss next steps. Tan said that Razer takes theft “very seriously,” going on to say that the company has not ruled out “industrial espionage.”

“Penalties for such crimes are grievous and anyone who would do this clearly isn’t very smart,” Tan said.

Bear in mind that Project Valerie and Project Ariana are only concepts, so they don’t have price points or release dates; they may never be released.

In 2011, thieves broke into Razer’s office and stole prototypes for laptops that would become the company’s Razer Blade, according to GameSpot sister site CNET.

  • Big Yahoo Changes: CEO Resigning From Board, Name Change Coming

Big Yahoo Changes: CEO Resigning From Board, Name Change Coming

Big changes are in the works for Internet pioneer Yahoo involving executive management and the famous company’s name. GameSpot sister site CNET reports that CEO Marissa Mayer will resign from the company’s board of directors after Verizon’s $4.8 billion acquisition of the firm goes through. Additionally, Yahoo co-founder David Filo is leaving the company’s board when the sale is completed.

    No Caption Provided

As CNET explains, only Yahoo’s consumer web business, which comprises Yahoo Mail and the site’s sports ventures, is being sold to Verizon, not the company altogether. The version of Yahoo that lives on after the sale will be called Altaba. It will continue to hold a stake in the Chinese online shopping giant Alibaba worth $36 billion.

All of this news was made public this week in a filing with the Securities and Exchange Commission. Yahoo has yet to make a formal announcement.

In December, Yahoo announced that 1 billion user accounts were compromised as part of what it believed to be the biggest hack in history as it relates to the number of affected accounts. Current and former White House staff, congressional leaders, FBI agents, officials at the CIA, and people at every branch of the US military were among those reportedly affected.

That was the second major hack that Yahoo acknowledged in 2016, as a previous one was reportedly perpetrated by a “state-sponsored” actor and resulted in 500 million accounts being compromised.

In March 2016, Yahoo announced Yahoo Esports, which it’s calling a “new premier destination for delivering professional esports coverage across major games and events.”

  • Aquaman Movie Will Blow Your Mind, Writer Says

Aquaman Movie Will Blow Your Mind, Writer Says

The writer of the upcoming Aquaman film starring Jason Momoa has teased that the movie is going to be “really fun.” He added that it’s going to “blow people’s minds” with its story and visual effects.

Jason Momoa as Aquaman in Justice League

“It’s going to be fun; it’s going to be really fun,” Will Beall told Collider. “What we’ve come up with and [director James Wan] especially–he has a really clear idea of the tone he’s going to have, and I think Aquaman is one that’s going to blow people’s minds.

“Not just visually, but I think the story and the scope of it is really great.”

Aquaman arrives in theaters in fall 2018, so it’s still a long time off. In addition to Momoa, Amber Heard will play Mera, the Queen of the Sea, while Patrick Wilson will play Aquaman’s evil half brother Orm Marius AKA Ocean Master.

Also in Colldier’s interview, Beall spoke briefly about the early draft he wrote for another DC Movie, Justice League. His script was ultimately not used, but Beall talked about how Justice League aims to be “a lot more fun” than Batman v Superman.

“It’s much more fun, much poppier, than … I haven’t seen Wonder Woman yet, but Batman vs Superman was a little more somber. But Justice League is a lot more fun,” he said. “And I think that feels to me like the direction those movies are heading now.”

Justice League, which is directed by Batman v Superman‘s Zack Snyder, opens in November. The next DC superhero movie is Wonder Woman, which comes out this summer.

  • Final Fantasy 15 Ships Over 6 Million Copies

Final Fantasy XV has shipped over six million copies to retailers worldwide, publisher Square Enix has announced.

In a press release, the Japanese company confirmed the figure also includes digital sales, but does not necessarily mean six million units have been sold through to consumers. The divide between digital and physical sales isn’t clear.

Square Enix had previously stated that the game shipped over five million copies at launch. Before that, Final Fantasy XV’s director, Hajima Tabata, had said it needs to sell 10 million copies to be a “success.” He later clarified that comment, stating that 10 million is the studio’s personal goal, not necessarily how many units it needs to move to turn a profit.

It was a long road to release for Final Fantasy XV, as the game was announced as Final Fantasy Versus XIII more than a decade ago, at E3 2006. At E3 2013, the game was re-revealed as Final Fantasy XV. It was delayed multiple times after that before landing at its eventual November 29 launch date.

In GameSpot’s verdict, we called it a “fascinating game” with a “beautiful world and exciting challenges.” For more, check out our full Final Fantasy XV review.

Matt Ryan, who played the character in the live-action show, will reprise the role in the new animated version.
