Infinite Warfare failed to meet GameStop’s sales expectations. The game did not stay at its $60 price for very long, as it’s now available for $40 at GameStop and other retailers. The Legacy Edition is also down $20, available for $60 at retailers across the country and online.

The newest Star Wars movie, Rogue One, does not feature one of the franchise’s most iconic elements: the opening crawl. Now, the person who designed this now-famous sequence for the 1977 original Star Wars has come forward to criticize Rogue One for leaving it out.
“Frankly, it is a huge mistake, because the image is so iconic and it’s so important to tens of millions, hundreds of millions of fans,” Dan Perri told The Hollywood Reporter.”I couldn’t imagine it starting without that. It’s foolish.”
Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy explained before Rogue One‘s release that the studio was taking a different approach to the film, in part because it is a “story” movie and not a mainline entry. This is part of the reason why the crawl was left out. She also suggested that upcoming spinoffs, including 2018’s young Han Solo film, will also not include the crawl.
Perri told THR that he has not seen any Star Wars movie after the original in part because, “There are too many things to do and there are too many films out there to see.”
The full interview is very fascinating. Perri also talks about how he worked on the opening crawl for a long time before George Lucas eventually approved it at the last minute.
“I had no idea what he was doing, so it was just this stupid space film. I didn’t think anything of it,” he explained. “Everything I showed him, he didn’t like. So I was constantly going out there with new ideas, and he would tell me to look at certain films.
“He accepted it and they cut it in. By then, it was only maybe a month before the release,” Perri added. “The day I delivered it, it was such a relief to drive away from there knowing, ‘Wow, it’s done finally.’”
All of the mainline Star Wars films have opened with a crawl; the 2008 animated movie Star Wars: The Clone Wars did not.
The newest Star Wars movie, Rogue One, has been in theaters for less than a week, but fans are clearly interested in what’s coming next for the mainline series. Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy teased in a recent interview that fans can expect to “see things” about Episode VIII in Spring 2017.
A scene from The Force Awakens
“We’re giving [Rogue One] a little bit of breathing room,” she said at the film’s premiere this month, as reported by MoviePilot. “And then probably heading into spring, you’ll start to see things [about Episode VIII.”
It remains to be seen what these “things” could be, but official images or a trailer seem to be likely candidates.
“I know there’s Celebration next year. Hopefully something will be shown there? That’s speculation, by the way…” she said.
Ridley also teased in the Empire interview what she’s seen of Episode VIII so far.
“I watched a sizzle reel. I went to go see Rian in the [editing room], and that was very…[makes excited noise] Rian sounds very happy. It’s very, very exciting,” she said. “Rian doesn’t love showing stuff.”
Following a delay, Episode VIII arrives in theaters on December 15, 2017. It also stars Adam Driver, Laura Dern, Domhnall Gleeson, Carrie Fisher, Anthony Daniels, Gwendoline Christie, and Andy Serkis.
At Star Wars Celebration this year, director Rian Johnson talked about how Episode VIII is the film where “we start zooming in on the characters and getting to the heart of them, challenging them, and pushing them deeper.”
This matches up with what Poe Dameron actor Oscar Isaac said in May. “In the new film, there’s a lot more to do. What happens now is the heroes get tested. All three of them get tested immensely,” he explained at the time, adding the film is “dark,” but “not really dark.”
Stars Ridley and John Boyega have also spoken about the film’s darker tone. “It’s a different take–darker, bigger,” Boyega told Variety. “Someone will say: ‘How do you get bigger than Force Awakens?’ But it’s crazy.”
[UPDATE] New box office estimates for Assassin’s Creed‘s Wednesday premiere have come in. Deadline reports that the movie is expected to top another December 21 release, the Chris Pratt/Jennifer Lawrence film Passengers,by as much as $4.5 million for its first day.
“Essentially, the core female audience that would go watch Passengers doesn’t come out until Christmas Day and beyond,” the site said.
It added that Assassin’s Creed is expected to be heavily frontloaded due to the “fanboy quotient,” a reference to video game fans, no doubt. As announced previously, Assassin’s Creed is projected to make as much as $35 million over its first six days, below what Passengers is pegged to bring in.
We will continue to update this story as more box office figures for Assassin’s Creed come in.
The original story is below.
The newest video game movie, Assassin’s Creed, opened on Tuesday night with previews that started at theaters across the US at 7 PM. Deadline reports that the film pulled in $1.35 million from 2,470 theaters from those early showings.
Assassin’s Creed officially debuts today, December 21. We’ll report back with day-one box office figures for the film as they become available, while you can keep checking back with GameSpot to find out how the film fares at the box office through the week and into the weekend.
The $1.35 million that Assassin’s Creed made for its Tuesday preview was slightly ahead of Sony’s Christ Pratt/Jennifer Lawrence space-travel movie, Passengers, which made $1.2 million at 2,400 locations. Previews for Passengers also started at 7 PM on Tuesday, with the wide release slate for today.
According to Deadline, Assassin’s Creed is expected to make between $30 million and $35 million over its first six days. Again, all of these numbers are for the US box office only.

Hideo Kojima, like the rest of us, is looking forward to the games coming out in 2017. But which one is he the most interested in, at least in terms of what’s been announced? The Metal Gear Solid creator told GI.biz that Rockstar’s Red Dead Redemption 2 is the highest on his list for games.
“Looking ahead, for games, my pick would have to be Red Dead Redemption [2],” he said.
Kojima has been a fan of Rockstar’s work for a while. In 2013, he said Grand Theft Auto V looked so impressive that it made him “depressed” because he thought his own project, Metal Gear Solid V, might not be able to have the same impact. “Rockstar’s team are the best. Without question they will pull up the possibility of game,” Kojima said at the time.
Red Dead Redemption 2, providing it stays on schedule, is slated to come to PlayStation 4 and Xbox One in fall 2017. The game looks gorgeous, but Rockstar hasn’t shared any concrete gameplay details yet.
Also in the GI.biz feature, Kojima revealed that the new Blade Runner film, Blade Runner 2049, is his most anticipated movie for 2017. It stars Ryan Gosling and Harrison Ford–a new teaser video and some images for it were released this week.
Speaking generally about his thoughts on 2016 in gaming, Kojima called out virtual reality.
“2016 was year one for virtual reality,” he said. “Screen-viewing culture hadn’t changed for about 120 years, so I think the impact of VR will significantly change entertainment, our daily lives, education, culture, and so on. I don’t believe this to be only about games.”
Kojima’s current project is Death Stranding, an intriguing-looking PlayStation 4 game that features Norman Reedus, Mads Mikkelsen, and Guillermo del Toro.

There won’t be any further additions to the Xbox One‘s backwards compatibility catalog this year.
Microsoft’s Major Nelson confirmed this on Twitter. He said the six games that arrived on December 15 were the last ones of 2016. The backwards compatibility team is taking a breather for the holidays, Major Nelson confirmed, adding that fans can expect releases to resume in the New Year.
Earlier this week, Xbox boss Phil Spencer teased January’s backwards compatibility lineup, saying it “looks pretty good,” though he didn’t name any titles outright.
FX’s hit drama Fargo has added more actors for Season 3. As reported by Variety, newly added cast members for Season 3 include David Thewlis (Harry Potter series), Michael Stuhlbarg (A Serious Man), and comedian Jim Gaffigan. Scott McNairy, Karan Soni, Fred Melamed, and Thomas Mann have also come aboard for the next season of the show inspired by the Coen Brothers cult-classic movie.
The new additions follow previously confirmed Season 3 newcomers such as Ewan McGregor, Carrie Coon, and Mary Elizabeth Winstead.
Here’s a breakdown of what we know about the Fargo Season 3 actors and the characters they play, with descriptions from Variety:
McGregor — He plays two characters: brothers Emmit and Ray Stussy. “Emmit, described as the Parking Lot King of Minnesota, sees himself as an American success story, whereas Ray is more of a cautionary tale. Their sibling rivalry leads to a twisted path that begins with petty theft, but soon leads to murder, mobsters, and cut-throat competitive bridge.”
Thewlis — He plays V.M. Vargas, described as a “mysterious loner and true capitalist.”
Coon — She plays Gloria Burgle, a police chief and a newly divorced mother.
Winstead — She plays Ray’s girlfriend, Nikki Swango.
Stuhlbarg — He plays Sy Feltz, the righthand man to Emmit.
Gaffigan — He plays Gloria’s deputy at the police department, Donny Mashman.
McNairy — He plays Maurice Lefay, described as a “stone with a criminal past.
Soni — He plays the scientist Dr. Homer Gilruth.
Melamed — He plays Howard Zimmerman, “a mover and shaker with a knack for spinning yarn and making a profit.”
Mann — He plays Thaddeus Mobley, a sci-fi author.
Fargo Season 3 begins its shoot in Calgary in January. The season is scheduled to premiere in 2017.

Toy company Threezero has revealed some images of a new Game of Thrones figure based on the character Daenerys Targaryen–and it looks pretty incredible.
The 1/6th scale model (via IGN) stands 10.2 inches tall and nails the look of actress Emilia Clarke. The figure comes with multiple interchangeable hands, “highly detailed” clothing items such as a cloak, tunic, pants, vest, and neckwear. She also comes with a perch for her dragons, Rhaegal and Viserion, figures for which are included with a Threezero Store-exclusive version.
This version sells for $180, while the one without the dragons goes for $168. Both prices include shipping, and the estimated delivery date is the Q3 2017 (July-September). Go to the Threezero website to learn more.
Threezero also makes nice-looking figures based on other popular franchises such as Fallout, TMNT, Breaking Bad, and others.
There are a few good reasons to play Star Wars Battlefront this weekend. EA has announced that the game’s Death Star DLC will be free for everyone December 23-25, while the game will also pay out double XP during that time. Not only that, but everyone gets 5,000 Credits just for logging in.
EA says it’s offering the promotion to celebrate the holidays (via VG247).
The Death Star DLC, which originally came out in September, includes new maps set on the Death Star, as well as the multi-stage Battle Station mode. This essentially lets you recreate Luke Skywalker’s trench run from A New Hope, culminating in the destruction of the giant weapon.
All of Death Star’s maps and modes are available during the free play weekend, though it’s not immediately clear if the DLC’s heroes, weapons, and Star cards are available as well. Chewbacca and Bossk came to Battlefront with the Death Star expansion.
Battlefront’s newest DLC, Rogue One: Scarif, came out earlier this month. It features characters and content from the new movie, Rogue One.
You can get all four of Battlefront’s expansions (the other two are Outer Rim and Bespin) with the game’s season pass. Alternatively, they are available for $15 each. EA bundled the base game and all DLC together in the Battlefront Ultimate Edition, which sells for $40 but has been frequently discounted.
