  • Uncharted: The Lost Legacy's Tone, Gameplay Teased

Uncharted: The Lost Legacy's Tone, Gameplay Teased

Don’t expect Uncharted: The Lost Legacy, the upcoming standalone game, to have the same tone as the rest of the Uncharted series. According to PowerUpGaming, creative director Shaun Escayg told Official PlayStation Magazine UK, “It [will] be tonally different, but in the same context of the Uncharted world.”

The Lost Legacy puts you in the shoes of the character Chloe, who appeared in past games (but not Uncharted 4) and hasn’t really been fully explored. The sympathetic villain Nadine from Uncharted 4 is also in the game, but we don’t exactly know how the two characters are connected.

It’s set in India. According to Escayg, this setting works well for Uncharted.

“India’s got really nice iconography: hidden temples and weird deities we can play off of, so it’s a perfect setting for Uncharted: The Lost Legacy,” he said.

Game director Kurt Margenau is also quoted in the story, teasing that in terms of gameplay, you should expect something different from Uncharted 4.

“I would say we’re going a little more wide this time,” he said. “I don’t want to give too much away, but it’s something we’re excited about on the gameplay side, this kind of contrast of an urban setting and a rural setting; a tighter experience and more open experience.”

He added that Naughty Dog originally thought The Lost Legacy would be a DLC expansion for Uncharted 4 instead of a standalone game.

The Lost Legacy launches in 2017 for PlayStation 4. Watch the extended gameplay demo above from PlayStation Experience to get a closer look at the game.

  • Xbox: Get Rewards for Spending Money on Free-to-Play Games

Xbox: Get Rewards for Spending Money on Free-to-Play Games

Microsoft has announced a new program that offers up rewards for people who spend money on free-to-play Xbox games. Xbox Live Rewards members (join here free) can now earn what Microsoft is calling “FREEdom Rewards.”

    No Caption Provided

A post on the Xbox Wire explains how this works. When you spend at least $30 on a single free-to-play game in one month, you will earn 2,000 Rewards credits. This resets every month.

Alternatively, if you spend at least $5 over a three-month span across on a free-to-play game, you’ll get the same 2,000 Rewards credit allotment, but only delivered every three months. This offer specifically runs January 1, 2017 through March 31, 2017.

Finally, you can earn 3,000 Rewards credits in a month by spending at least $5 on microtransactions for three different games. This offer is good every month, resetting on the first day of the month.

You can then spend your Rewards credits on thing in the Xbox Store such as games, TV shows, movies, and more. Read the full Xbox Wire post to learn more about how all of this works.

There are many free-to-play Xbox games, including World of Tanks, Star Trek Online, DC Universe Online, and Warframe, among others.

  • XCOM 2's Long War 2 Mod Is Out Now on PC

XCOM: Enemy Unknown‘s much-loved mod, Long War, is back for XCOM 2.

Long War 2 is out now on Steam Workshop, and it brings a raft of changes to the acclaimed strategy title.

The campaign now contains between 100 and 120 missions in an average run, for example. In addition, nine new soldier classes have been added, as well as two new weapon types, “dozens” of never-before-seen enemies, and smarter AI. Lastly, Long War 2 allows you to control more than one battle squad at once.

Long War 2 and its predecessor were developed by a team of modders-turned-developers called Pavonis Interactive. The group is also working on their first original IP, called Terra Invicta.

XCOM and its developer Firaxis have traditionally been very open to the modding community. Enemy Unknown and XCOM 2 designer Jake Solomon has promoted The Long War in the past, saying it “takes XCOM to a new level.”

Even without Long War, XCOM 2 is an incredibly enjoyable experience. We awarded it a 9/10, with critic Mike Mahardy calling it “a superb strategy title.” For more, check out our XCOM 2 review.

  • Hellboy 3: Here's a Reason to Believe it Could Happen

Hellboy 3: Here's a Reason to Believe it Could Happen

While many fans have given up on ever seeing Hellboy 3, it seems director Guillermo Del Toro still thinks there’s a chance. The acclaimed filmmaker yesterday tweeted a poll asking his followers to vote on how much they wanted a third Hellboy movie, promising to take it further if enough enough people voted.

    No Caption Provided

Del Toro described it as an “informal poll”–with two very positive options–but did promise to sit down with creator Mike Mignola and star Ron Perlman if the votes topped 100,000.

Informal poll (let’s see how many votes we get in 24 hours)
    Hellboy III

    — Guillermo del Toro (@RealGDT) January 18, 2017

The HELLBOY III is our chance to vote the right way in 2017! If 100k votes come in 24 hours I promise to have a sit down w Da Perl & Mignola

    — Guillermo del Toro (@RealGDT) January 18, 2017

At the time of writing, more than 110,000 people have voted. In his latest update, with five hours of the poll left to run, De Toro tweeted:

We have gone past the 100K votes. I will arrange the sitdown w Ron & Mignola to talk HBIII. No gurantee but we will discuss. Wish us luck!!

    — Guillermo del Toro (@RealGDT) January 19, 2017

Del Toro directed the previous two parts of the series, 2004’s Hellboy and 2008’s Hellboy II: The Golden Army. Both he and Perlman have previously expressed a desire to make third film. In 2015, del Toro explained that part of the problem was budgetary. “The hard fact is that the movie’s going to need about $120 million and there’s nobody knocking down our doors to give it to us,” he admitted during a Television Critic’s Association Q&A.

“It’s a little beyond Kickstarter. It would be great to complete the trilogy, but in a way I don’t see the world–the industry–supporting that idea.”

Perlman was asked again about the possibility of a third film last year. He told Variety it would “probably will never happen, though you never say never never.”

Hellboy first appeared in 1993, and has featured in a wide variety of regular comic books, miniseries, one-shots, and crossovers since then, published by Dark Horse Comics.

  • Former Limbo, Inside Dev CEO Gets $7M After Split With Biz Partner – Report

Former Limbo, Inside Dev CEO Gets $7M After Split With Biz Partner – Report

Last year, the co-founder and CEO of Limbo and Inside developer Playdead, Dino Patti, announced that he had left the Danish studio. Now, it’s come to light that he was potentially pushed out.

According to Kotaku, Danish newspaper Borsen reported this week that the Danish Business Authority apparently forced Patti to go; he reportedly received $7.2 million on his way out, with managerial duties for Playdead now fully in the hands of the other founder, Arnt Jensen.

    No Caption Provided

According to Borsen, the rift between Patti and Jensen was related to how and when Playdead would put out games. There was also a supposed misunderstanding regarding a letter from Jensen to Patti that Patti thought was Jensen’s resignation. Patti and Jensen reportedly were hardly speaking in 2015.

Patti spoke to Kotaku about his exit, saying he wishes he didn’t have to leave but said Playdead has a bright future “if run sensibly.” Patti added: “Arnt has been a really good friend and business partner for many years. I think he’s one of the best game directors in the world.”

Go to Kotaku to get the full story.

GameSpot has reached out to Patti and will update this story as more information from him or other parties becomes available.

“Following almost 10 incredible years building Playdead from an idea to two dents in the games industry, I’m leaving to seek new challenges,” Patti wrote on Twitter last July when he announced his departure from the studio.

Playdead’s newest game was 2016’s celebrated puzzle-platformer Inside. The studio has no announced projects for the future.
