James Bond Should Be Directed by Christopher Nolan, Says Tom Hardy

Despite the huge popularity of the James Bond series, it is currently unknown when the next movie will arrive–and who exactly will be playing 007. The latest actor to be linked with the role is Tom Hardy, who has now revealed that he would love director Christopher Nolan to tackle the series.

While promoting his new TV show Taboo, Hardy was asked about the possibility of playing Bond if Daniel Craig decides to step away. “You know, there’s a saying amongst us in the fraternity of acting, and in the fellowship of my peer group, that if you talk about it you’re automatically out of the race,” he said, he told The Daily Beast. “So I can’t possibly comment on that one! If I mention it, it’s gone.”

Hardy did however state that Christopher Nolan, who directed him in The Dark Knight Rises and Inception, would be a great choice to helm the next movie.

“Chris Nolan, what a fantastic director for a Bond movie,” he said. “Because Daniel is so good, and what [director Sam] Mendes and Barbara [Broccoli, producer] have done has been so impressive, that it would be a very hard re-imagination to follow after.

“I wonder what the next installment of that franchise would become, and I think when you mention someone like Christopher Nolan, that’s a very powerful figure to bring into that world who could bring something new and create something profound… again.”

There has been much speculation over the past year that Craig might not return for a fifth Bond movie. In September it was rumored that Sony had offered him $150 million to play the iconic secret agent for another two films, which would be shot back-to-back. Craig later suggested that he was still open to playing the role, stating: “As far as I’m concerned, I’ve got the best job in the world. I’ll keep doing it as long as I still get a kick out of it.”

Nevertheless, there has been no release date set for the next adventure, and neither Craig or the studio have stated whether the star will play 007 again.

  • Facebook's Zuckerburg to Appear in Court Today to Defend Against VR Tech "Heist" Claims

Facebook's Zuckerburg to Appear in Court Today to Defend Against VR Tech "Heist" Claims

Mark Zuckerberg, founder and CEO of Facebook, is set to appear in court today, January 17, to defend his social media company and its subsidiary Oculus against claims they stole virtual reality technology.

The accusations come from ZeniMax Media, the parent company of Fallout publisher Bethesda and Doom developer Id Software. ZeniMax is suing Oculus and Facebook for $2 billion, the same figure Facebook bought Oculus for in 2014.

According to the BBC, Zuckerberg will argue that “ZeniMax was slow to appreciate the potential of VR–and that it was Oculus’ own work that made it the valuable technology it is today.”

An Oculus spokesperson told the BBC, “We’re eager to present our case in court.”

“Oculus and its founders have invested a wealth of time and money in VR because we believe it can fundamentally transform the way people interact and communicate.

“We’re disappointed that another company is using wasteful litigation to attempt to take credit for technology that it did not have the vision, expertise, or patience to build.”

ZeniMax’s argument revolves around revered game programmer John Carmack, who had worked for ZeniMax from 2009, when the corporation acquired his studio Id Software for $405 million. In November 2013, he resigned to join Oculus full-time.

But for several months before his departure from Zenimax, Carmack was effectively working for both companies. A year prior to this, he was also helping build a virtual reality version of Doom 3 for Oculus VR.

ZeniMax alleges Carmack “copied thousands of documents from a computer at ZeniMax to a USB storage device.”

“He never returned those files or all copies of them after his employment with ZeniMax was terminated,” states the lawsuit (via Game Informer). Zenimax lawyer Tony Sammi has said the case is “one of the biggest technology heists ever.”

In a statement to Ars Technica, the Id and Bethesda parent said, “ZeniMax and Id Software welcome the opportunity to present substantial evidence of the Defendants’ misappropriation of our Virtual Reality (VR) intellectual property.

“That evidence includes the theft of trade secrets and highly confidential information, including computer code. ZeniMax will also present evidence of the Defendants’ intentional destruction of evidence to cover up their wrongdoing. ZeniMax and Id Software are the visionary developers of breakthrough VR technology and look forward to the vindication of our claims.”

Carmack testified last week, reportedly calling the case “absurd.” His comments reflect those of previous statements by Facebook and Oculus, who previously branded ZeniMax’s arguments as “ridiculous.” They later said it was ZeniMax’s attempt to rectify a “massive missed opportunity.”

The case is taking place is a Dallas, Texas court, and it is expected to last three weeks.

Disclosure: Leslie Moonves, president and CEO of GameSpot parent company CBS, is a member of the ZeniMax board of directors.

  • See Xbox One's New Dashboard Guide

See Xbox One's New Dashboard Guide

Xbox’s director of program management, Mike Ybarra, has given us our first look at the redesigned Xbox One guide, which Microsoft previously said will make common tasks on the console easier to perform.

During a streaming session Ybarra brought up the menu for a very brief moment. The new guide slides in from the left and allows users to save screenshots or record video clips with a quick button press. It also has the option to easily jump to the Xbox Store, My Games & Apps section, or home screen.

Recent games and applications are also listed in the new version of the menu, which should improve multitasking. By navigating up and down the sidebar it’s also possible to get access to achievements, friends, messages, and settings, among other features. Take a look at a screenshot of the new guide above, or skip to 10:25 in this video to see it appear.

Ybarra previously described the new guide as an “enhanced” overlay.

“Through one press of the Xbox button on your controller, you’ll be able to pull up the newly enhanced Guide as an overlay on the left side of your screen no matter what you’re doing,” he explained. “You’ll be able to start recording your GameDVR clips, adjust your recording length, and access your captures directly in the Guide.

“We’ll also add a new Achievement tracking overlay, Gamerscore Leaderboard, a new Cortana design, and controls for background music, making these features easier to use.”

Microsoft is also working on a new Game Mode feature for Windows 10 that improves system performance while playing PC games.

“Our vision is for Game Mode to optimize your Windows 10 PC for increased performance in gaming,” Ybarra explained. “This is a big update for Windows; we’re looking forward to Insiders getting their hands on this new feature for further testing, and we’ll have much more to share on what it is and how it works soon, so stayed tuned.”

Microsoft has not yet said when the new guide or the Windows 10 gaming mode will launch.

  • Mad Max Star Says There's "Definitely Another" Movie On the Way

Mad Max Star Says There's "Definitely Another" Movie On the Way

Ever since Mad Max roared back onto screen in 2015’s Mad Max: Fury Road there has been much speculation about further movies in the series. Director George Miller has spoken about the possibility of another film, potentially called Mad Max: The Wasteland, without ever confirming that he will make it. Now star Tom Hardy has stated that he believes it will happen.

    No Caption Provided

While promoting his new TV show Taboo on the recent Television Critics Association press tour, Hardy revealed that he was still contracted for more Mad Max films. “As far as I know I’ve signed to do three of them,” he said, via Collider. “It’s a question of when. I’m not sure it’s called The Wasteland or not because you never know. These titles change all the time. But there’s definitely another Mad Max project pending.”

Hardy went to explain that Miller has already written further stories for both Max and Furiosa, the character played by Charlize Theron in Fury Road. “What’s wonderful about George is that he’s created sagas for Max and sagas for Furiosa, so it’s what he chooses to focus in on,” he said. “I’m really just waiting for the call like, ‘All right, let’s get the leathers on and get back out there and do some more.’ It’s there. I’m just waiting for it and looking forward to it.”

Following Fury Road‘s release, Miller repeatedly stressed that he would need a break before making another. “We shot Fury Road for eight months–that’s a lot,” he told Top Gear at the time. “Every day in the heat and the dust, doing these stunts, it’s very wearing. We’ve got two more planned, but at some point in the future.”

Mad Max: Fury Road made $378.4 million worldwide, and was nominated for ten Oscars, more than any Australian film in history.

The show returns to screens in May, and now an eerie new teaser has been released, revealing star Kyle Maclachlan in his iconic role as FBI Agent Dale Cooper. Check it out below:

The two-hour premiere of the new season debuts on Showtime on May 21 at 9 PM ET. At the Television Critics Assocation press tour last week, Showtime CEO David Nevins revealed that the show will run a total of 18 hours, and that the next two episodes will be available online immediately afterwards.

  • HBO Exec Talks Game of Thrones Prequel Possibility, Season 8 Length

HBO Exec Talks Game of Thrones Prequel Possibility, Season 8 Length

Game of Thrones is set to wrap up with Season 8. But how many episodes can viewers expect in the supposedly final season? HBO programming president Casey Bloys told Entertainment Weekly that nothing has been decided yet, despite the suggestion that there will be seven episodes of Season 7 and six for Season 8.

    No Caption Provided

“They’re still figuring out the shape of the season, what they want to do,” Bloys said, referencing Game of Thrones creators David Benioff and Dan Weiss. “I’ll take as many as they want to do. If they give me eight, I’ll want 10. But it’s really up to them. They’ll let me know.”

Season 7 is supposedly going to premiere this summer, which is somewhat later than usual.

Also in Entertainment Weekly’s interview, Bloys teased that HBO is thinking about extending the Game of Thrones series with a spinoff that could be a prequel.

“It’s such a big property we would be foolish not to explore it, but it’s a pretty high bar,” he said. “We’ll take some shots at it. I’m not going to do it just to do it. It has to feel very special. I would rather have no sequel and leave it as-is then have something we rushed out.”

“A prequel feels like it has less pressure on it [than a spinoff],” Bloys added. “[Author George R.R. Martin’s history of Westeros] gives you areas in which to say to a writer, ‘If you were going to do this, then go flesh it out,’ and we’ll see what comes back. But I don’t feel any pressure that we have to have something.”

  • Better Call Saul Season 3 Premiere Date Announced; This Breaking Bad Character Returns

AMC announced today that the Breaking Bad spinoff Better Call Saul‘s third season will premiere on Monday, April 10 at 10 PM ET. As Entertainment Weekly, which confirmed the date, explains, this is a bit later than usual. Seasons 1 and 2 debuted in February in their respective years.

It was also confirmed that a major Breaking Bad character, as rumored, is coming to Better Call Saul for Season 3. Go here to find out which character that is.

Additionally, AMC announced the premiere date for Into the Badlands Season 2 (March 19 at 10 PM ET) and Season 1 of The Son (April 8 at 9 PM ET).

Better Call Saul was created by Breaking Bad showrunner Vince Gilligan after that show finished in 2013. The series charts the early legal career of Jimmy McGill (Bob Odenkirk) and co-stars Jonathan Banks, who reprises his role of tough guy Mike Ehrmantraut. It also features Michael McKean, Rhea Seehorn, and Patrick Fabian. Odenkirk played the role in four seasons of Breaking Bad.

In November last year, AMC’s Charlie Coller spoke about the decision to commission a third Season. “What Vince, Peter [Gould, co-creator], Bob, and the entire team have accomplished with Better Call Saul is truly rare and remarkable,” he said. “They have taken one of the most iconic, immersive, and fan-obsessive shows in television history and created a prequel that stands on its own.

“Watching Jimmy McGill’s thoughtful, melodic, and morally flexible transformation into Saul Goodman is entertaining and delighting millions of fans, whether their starting point was Breaking Bad or not. This series has its own feel, pace, and sensibility and we can’t wait to see what this incredibly talented group comes up with next in Season 3.”
