  • The “Twisted New Vision” For Call Of Duty Zombies Will Be Revealed Soon

It looks it won’t be long until we know more about Call of Duty: WWII‘s Zombies mode. A tweet from the Call of Duty account says that the first official reveal of developer Sledgehammer Games’ “twisted new vision” for Call of Duty Zombies will be revealed on July 20.

The tweet (via Game Informer) suggests that the reveal will happen at San Diego Comic-Con. That’s all we know for now, but Activision has a history of making big Call of Duty Zombies announcements at Comic-Con, so we’re expecting something good here.

    — Call of Duty (@CallofDuty) July 5, 2017

At San Diego Comic-Con 2015, Activision announced the celebrity cast for Black Ops III’s Zombies mode, including Jeff Goldblum, Heather Graham, and Ron Perlman. It wouldn’t be surprising if this year’s Comic-Con news is something similar.

What we do know about Call of Duty: WWII’s Zombies mode is that it is an “entirely new story and a pretty horrifying experience,” and it will tell “the story of the Third Reich’s desperate attempt to create an army in the final stages of the war.”

Sledgehammer boss Michael Condrey added that Call of Duty: WWII’s Zombies mode will be an “adrenaline-fueled” take on the fan-favourite mode. He pointed out that Sledgehammer is no stranger to horror, as he and the other studio leader, Glen Schofield, worked on Dead Space before joining Activision.

Call of Duty: World War II launches on November 3 for PS4, Xbox One, and PC. A beta will be held before launch, and you can guarantee yourself a spot by pre-ordering.

  • PS4 Trophies Now Sync “Much Quicker Than Ever Before,” But Still Not Automatically

Sony has announced that PlayStation Trophies now sync “much more quickly” on PS4, meaning you’ll be able to show off your achievements quicker than ever before.

Although syncing to the server is noticeably faster than before on PS4, it is still not immediate like on Xbox One: you’re still required to go into the Trophies sub-section of the main menu to trigger the synchronization. It’s unclear if sync speeds from PS3 and PS Vita have been improved.

Good news! Your trophies will now sync much quicker than ever before on your PS4, so it’ll be easier to show off your achievements! pic.twitter.com/x0ZgiFu4Wp

    — PlayStation Europe (@PlayStationEU) July 5, 2017

In other Trophy news, a game that promised the “world’s fastest platinum Trophy” has been pulled from the PlayStation Store. ★★★★★ 1000 Top Rated’s developer claimed you could earn the title’s platinum Trophy in under 20 minutes. However, Sony removed it from PSN “temporarily” and asked developer Top Rated to “change the game’s name and not mention Trophies in the Store trailer.”

The puzzle game, which had a price tag of $0.98, is still not back on the Store at the time of writing.

  • Playerunknown's Battlegrounds Update Out Today For Some, Here's What It Does

Playerunknown’s Battlegrounds has a new update out today on its PC public test server, bringing with it a bunch of bug fixes and small improvements.

Specifically, you can no longer exit a vehicle that is blocked all the way round, and tire effects will change immediately when a vehicle moves onto a different type of surface. Elsewhere, the game’s UI performance has been improved, and a south-east Asia server has been added.

Take a look at the full patch notes at the bottom of this article. The update is out today on Battlegrounds’ test server, and it will likely drop on Thursday, July 6, “if everything is stable.”

Looking ahead, a new, desert-themed map is on the way for Battlegrounds, along with a snowy arena set in the Adriatic region. No release date has been announced for either map, but the former was recently shown off for the first time.

Developer Bluehole announced the new maps at E3 2017, where it also showcased a new weapon–the short-to-medium range OTS rifle–and improved traversal animations. More weather effects are also on the way, along with mod support further down the line.

The other Battlegrounds news from E3 was that the title is coming to Xbox One as a “console launch exclusive” later this year. It has so far reached 3 million players on PC, where it remains in Early Access.

Finally, the battle royale title will soon add a new Zombies mode, in which players can control the undead and attempt to overcome their human enemies. For more on the popular multiplayer game, check out our Playerunknown’s Battlegrounds Let’s Play.

  • Mass Effect: Andromeda Teasing New Multiplayer Difficulty Mode And New Race

Multiplayer in Mass Effect: Andromeda will be getting a new difficulty mode soon. In a new trailer, developer BioWare and publisher EA have teased Platinum difficulty for the game’s Apex multiplayer missions, challenging players to “take your skills to the next level.” Little more is revealed in the video, but we’ll presumably learn more about the update in the near future.

Apex missions are Andromeda’s multiplayer squad-based challenges, and new ones have continued to be introduced since launch. The Platinum missions join Bronze, Silver, and Gold levels for more skilled players.

The trailer also appears to tease a new race for Andromeda: the batarians. One is seen in the video above, despite not being found in Andromeda to this date. The species was seen in the original trilogy, most notably in Mass Effect 2.

The news comes just a few days after reports emerged that Andromeda would not be getting any single-player DLC and that a sequel had been shelved. They followed previous reports that EA had put the Mass Effect series on “hiatus” and scaled down BioWare’s workforce. According to Kotaku, a small team will remain working on Andromeda’s multiplayer portion to add content and push out fixes. However most of the game’s primary development studio, BioWare Montreal, has apparently moved on to other projects.

The Edmonton, Canada-based developer has since unveiled its new IP, Anthem, which is coming to PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC in 2018.

In our Mass Effect Andromeda review, critic Scott Butterworth said, “In many ways, Andromeda feels like a vision half-fulfilled. It contains a dizzying amount of content, but the quality fluctuates wildly. Its worlds and combat shine, but its writing and missions falter–and the relative strength of the former is not enough to compensate for the inescapable weakness of the latter.” He awarded the game a 6/10.

  • Assassin's Creed Anime Series Coming From Castlevania Showrunner Adi Shankar

Assassin's Creed Anime Series Coming From Castlevania Showrunner Adi Shankar

Hollywood producer Adi Shankar (Dredd, Lone Survivor, The Voices, and more) today announced his next project–and it’s for one of the biggest franchises in gaming. The 32-year-old producer revealed that he’s working on an Assassin’s Creed anime series.

It is based on Ubisoft’s massively popular stealth-action franchise, but it will tell an entirely original story. There is no word as of yet regarding its title, premiere date, network, or cast. Ubisoft itself has yet to say if it is involved in the production.

    Adi Shankar
    Adi Shankar

Those details will come later down the road; it sounds like the project is still relatively early in the production process.

Shankar is a big fan of the Assassin’s Creed series, and he says he was floored to get the opportunity to work on the new Assassin’s Creed anime. “If anyone tells you not to follow your passion in life, they are wrong,” Ankar said.

“I played the first edition of Assassin’s Creed the year I moved to Los Angeles,” he added. “At that moment, I knew absolutely no one in the industry and could never have imagined that one day, Ubisoft would ask me to take the world of Assassin’s Creed and create an original anime story set in it as an anime series.”

He is the showrunner for the Castlevania Netflix series, which premieres this week, on July 7.

Keep checking back with GameSpot for the latest on the new Assassin’s Creed anime.

In March this year, Assassin’s Creed head of content Aymar Azaizia confirmed that an Assassin’s Creed TV series was happening, but until we did not know much about it, if this is indeed the series in question. Last year, Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot said the company was in talks with Netflix for a series, but he did not say which Ubisoft property might be spun into a show. It’s possible Assassin’s Creed–one of Ubisoft’s biggest and most recognizable brands–is the franchise in question.

This year’s big Assassin’s Creed game, Assassin’s Creed Origins, comes out in October for Xbox One, PS4, and PC. A mobile game called Assassin’s Creed Rebellion is also on the way.

    Here is Shankar’s full statement:

This won’t be the first time the Assassin’s Creed series has extended to circles beyond gaming. Fox produced a live-action Assassin’s Creed movie last year starring Michael Fassbender. The Justin Kurzel-directed film apparently made more than $240 million worldwide and is reportedly getting multiple sequels.

  • Nintendo Switch Could Get More Of Telltale's Games After Minecraft

Nintendo Switch Could Get More Of Telltale's Games After Minecraft

Telltale Games’ first Nintendo Switch game will be Minecraft: Story Mode Season 1 at some point in the future. But could the company bring more of its titles to the system? It sure sounds like it, according to Telltale head of communications Job Stauffer.

Minecraft: Story Mode Season 1 is heading to Switch, and it looks like Season 2 and more of Telltale’s franchises could show up on the hybrid console in due time.

    No Caption Provided

“We haven’t quite announced [Minecraft: Story Mode Season 2 for Switch] but we certainly hope to continue things on that platform; we’re big fans,” Stauffer said.

He went on to talk about why the Switch could be the “perfect” home for Telltale’s games. “It wouldn’t be unheard if more of our series also made it to Switch; we love the platform. It’s kind of perfect for what we do,” he said. “All of our games are the same on mobile as they are on consoles. And for a mobile console [like the Switch] it’s pretty awesome.”

A release date for Minecraft: Story Mode Season 1 on Switch has not been announced as of yet. As for the other Telltale titles that could come to Switch, the developer has a big library of high-profile episodic franchises. Some of these include seasons of Game of Thrones, Guardians of the Galaxy, The Walking Dead, Batman, and The Wolf Among Us.

There is also the possibility that Telltale could bring its mysterious new IP to Switch. Intriguingly, Telltale has also said it is thinking about releasing on games beyond console, mobile, and PC, so it appears Switch may not be the only new platform it’s developing for.

Minecraft Story Mode Season 2 premieres in July for PS4, Xbox One, PC, Mac, and mobile devices.

Which of Telltale’s franchises would you like to see come to Nintendo Switch? Let us know in the comments below!

  • Unreleased SNES Rayman Game Re-Discovered In Playable Prototype

Unreleased SNES Rayman Game Re-Discovered In Playable Prototype

An unreleased Rayman game for the SNES, found after 24 years in 2016, has resurfaced with a playable demo.

Series creator Michel Ancel rediscovered the game last year, and now another game developer, Omar Cornut, has posted it to the web so anyone can play it. GameSpot has verified the build does run on PC, though do note you’ll need an emulator to play the “very early dev build.” Remember to be aware when using third-party software downloaded from the internet.

I’ve dumped a prototype demo of unreleased Rayman for SNES, here it is! (NB: very early dev build, not a full game) https://t.co/F3XB9XRhTA pic.twitter.com/oLhOdNDyHF

    — Omar (@ocornut) July 3, 2017

Cornut worked with Ancel on the latter’s upcoming open-world survival game Wild. When Kotaku asked how he came into possession of the unreleased game, Cornut replied, “There’s not a lot to it really; I borrowed the cartridge from Michel Ancel who kindly let me look at it and dump it.”

In a tweet, Cornut wrote, “According to old screenshots and reports it _did_ grow to a more fully fledged game but a later version wasn’t found yet.”

Ancel originally posted about the prototype last year: “It’s working! Four people in the world have seen this,” he wrote. “We thought it was lost, but somewhere in the cold electronic circuit, something was still alive. And running at full 60 FPS!”

He’d previously said the game “was playable on the Super Nintendo console but was never finished.”

According to Unseen64, the game featured two-player co-op, though Cornut told Kotaku that this early build doesn’t contain that feature. It seems Ubisoft shifted development of the project from SNES to support CD-based systems. It then came out in September 1995 for the original PlayStation and Atari Jaguar. The franchise has spawned numerous sequels, the latest in the core series being 2013’s Rayman Legends.

Ancel is now working on Wild and Beyond Good & Evil 2, which was re-revealed at E3 2017.

  • See Playerunknown's Battlegrounds' New Desert Map For First Time

We already knew Playerunknown’s Battlegrounds has two new maps in development. Now, developer Bluehole has shown off one of them for the first time. The desert arena doesn’t yet have a name, but we know it’s based in Peru and will have sandstorms, among other new features. Take a look at the new images below.

I’m at our new @PUBATTLEGROUNDS office in Madison today. The team is working on our desert map. Here’s a WIP preview of this new location… pic.twitter.com/ReLbsvwv9A

    — PLAYERUNKNOWN (@BattleRoyaleMod) July 3, 2017

Bluehole originally shared the news at E3 2017, where it also showcased a new weapon–the short-to-medium range OTS rifle–and improved traversal animations. More weather effects are also on the way, along with mod support further down the line.

The Peru-based desert map isn’t the only one coming: in addition, Bluehole is working on a snowy arena set in the Adriatic region, containing a ruined cosmodrome. No release date has been announced for either map.

The big Battlegrounds news from E3 2017 was that the title is coming to Xbox One as a “console launch exclusive” later this year.

  • Game Of Thrones Season 8 Episodes Could Be Feature-Length

We already know that the Game of Thrones Season 7 finale will be a lengthy affair, coming in at 82 minutes. But episodes in Season 8, the show’s last one, could be longer.

The show’s sound designer, Patricia Fairfield, said at the Con of Thrones convention this past weekend that all episodes in the final season could be feature-length. This is according to the account of Cast of Kings podcast co-host David Chen (via GameSpot sister site CNET).

Fairfield just said the Season 7 finale of GAME OF THRONES will be 82 mins. Final season they’re considering making each ep feature length!

    — David Chen (@davechensky) July 1, 2017

Season 7 will only have seven episodes, while Season 8 has just six. But if they’re going to be super-sized, then the total runtime might not be all that different from past seasons.

In other Game of Thrones news, actress Sophie Turner, who plays Sansa Stark, recently discussed growing up on the show. You can read the full interview here at The Times UK.

Season 7 debuts on Sunday, July 16, on HBO. Although Season 8 will bring the show to an end, HBO is currently working on multiple scripts for Game of Thrones prequels.

Regarding Season 7, showrunners D.B. Weiss and David Benioff recently discussed how Game of Thrones may pick up the pace this season as the conflicts that have been brewing are coming to a head.
