  • See Shia Labeouf As Tennis Legend John McEnroe In New Movie Trailer

A teaser trailer for the new tennis movie Borg Vs McEnroe has come online, showing off Shia Labeouf and Sverrir Gudnason as tennis legends John McEnroe and Bjorn Borg, respectively.

The film tells the story of their intense rivalry, including an epic showdown at Wimbledon. The release of this trailer was timed with the start of the real-world Wimbledon event, which started today, July 3.

Labeouf spoke to Variety about Borg Vs McEnroe back in May. He praised the script, calling it “brilliant,” and stating that he cried the first time he read it. As announced previously, the film will chronicle the intense 1980 Wimbledon final between the two men, regarded by some as one of the greatest matches ever played.

John McEnroe is know for his short temper. The first trailer shows Labeouf performing one of McEnroe’s trademark outbursts, “You cannot be serious!”

Borg Vs McEnroe is directed by Janus Metz Pederson (Armadillo, True Detective) and is due out in September this year. Stellan Skarsgard also stars in the movie as Borg’s trainer, Lennart Bergelin.

  • Five Nights At Freddy's 6 Was Announced, Then Canceled

Five Night At Freddy’s creator Scott Cawthon has provided an update on his next game, revealing that it was to be the sixth entry in the popular point-and-click horror series. However, in a statement posted on Steam, Cawthon also announced that the project has been abandoned amid mounting pressure to top the previous entries and the detrimental impact this was having on other aspects of his life.

“After forcing myself to keep working on it day after day, I realized something–I just don’t want to work on this. With each game’s release, I think the expectations get higher and higher for the next, and rightfully so. Each game SHOULD be better than the last! But that pressure starts to mount, and I fear that I’ve been neglecting other things in my life for the sake of trying to keep up with those mounting expectations.

“So, after giving this a lot of thought, I’ve decided that I’m going to stop working on it. I’m not going to reveal anything else about what the game was, and I’ve asked other people involved to never divulge anything either. It’s just not going to be talked about.”

Cawthon went on to clarify that he wasn’t leaving game development altogether. Instead he stated he wants to “get back to what made game-making enjoyable in the first place.” Additionally, he said this cancelation doesn’t mean that he’s abandoning Five Nights At Freddy’s either.

“In fact, the first game that I’d like to make would be something for you guys,” he said. “Remember Foxy Fighters from Update 2? I loved working on that game. It was a lot of fun, and it took a lot of the pressure off me knowing that it was just for the fans of the games. That’s the kind of project that I’d like to work on again. Maybe I’ll try my hand at a pizzeria tycoon game, who knows. The point is that it would be something for fun, and something for the fans.”

For those invested in the Five Nights At Freddy’s universe, Cawthon said there are “big things in the works elsewhere.”

“The movie is in amazing hands with Blumhouse. I’m also still working to get a VR title out at some point (because that would be awesome). And of course I can’t leave everyone hanging with the cliffhanger at the end of the second book.”

He finished: “I hope you can respect and understand my decision. I want to spend more time with my family, and get back to what made me enjoy making games in the first place.”

The Five Nights at Freddy’s series debuted in August 2014 on PC and has since been ported to iOS. In May 2016 Cawthon said he’s in discussions with “a few companies” to make console remakes of Five Nights At Freddy’s happen.

  • New Arms Video Shows Off First DLC Character

Nintendo has published a new Arms gameplay video focused on Max Brass, who has been in the game as a boss-like character since its launch, but will become playable in July. Brass is a heavy bruiser that, when his arms are charged up, can take punches without flinching.

When his health falls below 20 percent his arms become permanently charged up, so he becomes an even more formidable fighter as duels progress. Max Brass will be part of the Arms DLC update available for free in July. Watch the video below to see Max Brass in action.

Arms launched earlier in June to positive critical reception. In our review, critic Kallie Plagge called it a “strong, substantial fighting game,” but one that “takes a while to really hit its stride.”

On June 26, Nintendo released a new update for Arms that introduces new features including the Arena Mode. This is similar to online play’s Party Mode, but it is a local multiplayer mode that allows you to spectate your friends’ matches while playing in the same room. Up to four friends can be in the same lobby, with two players fighting each other while the other pair watches on.

The update also introduced a LAN Mode which offered the same options as wireless local multiplayer, but with the more stable speeds ethernet connections provide.

  • Star Wars R2-D2 Sells For More Than $2.75 Million

An R2-D2 droid used in the original Star Wars films and two of the prequels has sold at auction for a huge price. According to Entertainment Weekly (via IGN), the item went for $2.76 million in the California-based auction house Profiles in History’s auction.

“Constructed of aluminum, steel, and fiberglass elements, the droid measures 43 x 29.5 x 20 inches and was pieced together over the years from original components used in Star Wars, The Empire Strikes Back, Return of the Jedi, The Phantom Menace, and Attack of the Clones,” Entertainment Weekly reported.

The $2.76 buying price exceeded the auction house’s own estimates that it could go for between $1 million and $2 million, apparently. There is no word on who the buyer was.

In other Star Wars news, Lucasfilm reportedly fired the directors of the Han Solo movie, with Ron Howard selected as a replacement for the 2018 film. You can check out GameSpot’s previous coverage to learn more about the reported clashes between Lucasfilm and the original directors.

  • No, Call Of Duty: WW2 Is Not Coming To Nintendo Switch

No, Call Of Duty: WW2 Is Not Coming To Nintendo Switch

A while back, the developers of Call of Duty: WWII said they had “no plans” to bring the military shooter to Nintendo Switch. That statement left open the possibility that it could happen someday, but now Sledgehammer Games has offered a more succinct and definitive-sounding statement on the matter.

During a recent Reddit AMA, Sledgehammer was asked, “Yes or no? Is Call Of Duty WWII coming to Nintendo Switch?” Sledgehammer responded, “No.” Here is the exchange:

    No Caption Provided

Call of Duty: WWII not coming to Switch is no big surprise. Sledgehammer boss Michael Condrey said on Twitter in June that the decision about not supporting Switch was made by the “[Activision] business guys.” The Call of Duty series has skipped Nintendo’s consoles for a while now. The last instalment in the shooter series to come to a Nintendo console was Call of Duty: Ghosts for the Wii U, back in 2013.

Some other multiplatform games recently confirmed not to come to Switch (at least not yet) include Raiders of the Broken Planet, The Witness, and Middle-earth: Shadow of War.

  • SteamVR's Knuckles Controller Wraps Around Your Hand, So You Can Let Go Without Dropping It

SteamVR's Knuckles Controller Wraps Around Your Hand, So You Can Let Go Without Dropping It

The SteamVR Knuckles controllers being developed for HTC Vive want to offer way more than just motion tracking; these controllers can track your fingers without you having to worry about dropping them. Denny Unger of Cloudhead Games demoed the prototype controllers in a recent video, showing off what the experience promises.

Unlike the Oculus Touch controllers, the Knuckles controllers have sensors for all five fingers and wrap around your hands. Remove a finger from the sensors to point, or curve your thumb in on the trackpad to make a fist. Because of their design, if you let go of the controllers entirely, and they’re going to stay in your palms. This means you’ll have more room to use your hands intuitively in VR games without having to worry about dropping your controllers.

    No Caption Provided

These aren’t traditional face controllers in any sense. The Knuckles controllers feature a pair of face buttons to go along with a System button; the rest is touch sensitive. The dev kit guide shows that the thumb rests in a deep well-like trackpad at the top of the controller, followed by the index finger on a trigger behind it. The other three fingers rest on the base of the controller. The controller is secured to the hand with an adjustable strap.

The SteamVR Knuckles were announced at last year’s Steam Dev Days; an official release window has not been announced.

  • NES-Style Switch Joy-Cons Look Sick, But Will Set You Back $200

NES-Style Switch Joy-Cons Look Sick, But Will Set You Back $200

Hopping on the retro gaming craze, custom game controller company ColorWare has released a set of specially painted Joy-Cons that will throw your Switch back to 1985. Here’s the catch–these NES-style Joy-Cons are $200.

ColorWare controllers are made from the original manufacturer’s controllers, disassembled by hand, then painted, so you can expect all of the functions of the standard controllers to feel and preform the same way. This Joy-Con duo is no different, featuring the same accelerometers, gyro sensors, and buttons the standard Switch Joy-Cons do. This set also comes with matching wrist straps.

    No Caption Provided

But, these customs will cost you $120 more than the standard Joy-Cons do, and take three weeks to ship. It’s not to say that Nintendo’s own Joy-Cons aren’t cool in their own right launching with vibrant red and blue colors, and recently bright yellow with the launch of fighting game Arms.

Only the first 25 units have numbers of authenticity. This model, like other retro-themed controllers, consoles, and accessories ColorWare has made, is limited edition.
