First Trailer for László Nemes' New Film 'Sunset' Premiering in Venice

    Sunset Trailer

“Why are you so sad?” Screen International has unveiled the first official trailer for László Nemes’ new film Sunset and my goodness does it looks incredible. This is the next film from the highly acclaimed Hungarian director of the film Son of Saul, and it’s set to premiere at the Venice and Toronto Film Festivals this fall. Sunset tells the story of a young girl who grows up to become a strong and fearless woman in Budapest before World War I. Juli Jakab stars as Írisz Leiter, and the cast includes Vlad Ivanov, Susanne Wuest, Björn Freiberg, Levente Molnár, Mónika Balsai, Urs Rechn, Judit Bárdos, and Evelin Dobos. I don’t know much about this film yet, but I think it looks extraordinary already, especially because I believe Nemes is a genius (for making Son of Saul). I’ll be seeing this in Venice and will have a review up soon after. ›››

    A Boy. A Girl. A Dream. Trailer

“Do you understand how important this is, and how important art is?” Samuel Goldwyn Films has debuted an official trailer for an indie romantic drama titled A Boy. A Girl. A Dream., from writer/director Qasim Basir. The film premiered at the Sundance Film Festival earlier this year, and it plays out as one-long-take following two people who meet in Los Angeles and go on a “thrilling and emotional journey” together, a bit like Richard Linklater’s Before films. On the night of the 2016 Presidential election, Cass played by Omari Hardwick, an L.A. club promoter, randomly meets Frida played by Meagan Good, a Midwestern visitor. She challenges him to revisit his broken dreams – while he pushes her to discover hers. This looks so good, I’m a bit sad I missed it at Sundance, but happy I have a chance to catch up with it soon. Take a look below. ›››

Magical New Trailer for Disney's 'The Nutcracker and the Four Realms'

The Nutcracker and the Four Realms Trailer

“She’s going to destroy everything my mother created!” Time to fight back against the evil forces! Disney has revealed a second official trailer for their new live-action take on a classic story – The Nutcracker and the Four Realms. Going back to the original story, this one has a darker side (as seen in this trailer) and seems to be a mix of Alice in Wonderland and Chronicles of Narnia. This new movie stars Mackenzie Foy as Clara, who gets lost in another realm where she finds gingerbread soldiers and an army of mice. The cast includes Keira Knightley, Morgan Freeman, Helen Mirren, Matthew Macfadyen, Miranda Hart, Ellie Bamber, and Jack Whitehall. This second trailer features even more magical footage and stunning CGI worlds, with some weird twists and super wacky characters. I’m honestly not sure if I’m excited for this or not – there’s just too much going on. I am curious about Lasse Hallström & Joe Johnston co-directing it. ›››

  • Second Trailer for Drama 'The Hate U Give' Starring Amandla Stenberg

Second Trailer for Drama 'The Hate U Give' Starring Amandla Stenberg

    The Hate U Give Trailer

“I need to speak for him.” 20th Century Fox has debuted a second trailer for the real world drama titled The Hate U Give, adapted from Angie Thomas’ book. Amandla Stenberg (seen in The Hunger Games and Everything Everything) stars as Starr, a young woman who witnesses the fatal shooting of her childhood best friend Khalil at the hands of a police officer. Now, facing pressures from all sides of the community, Starr must find her voice and stand up for what’s right. The cast includes Regina Hall, Russell Hornsby, Issa Rae, KJ Apa, Algee Smith, Sabrina Carpenter, Common, and Anthony Mackie. This reminds me of the Sundance films Blindspotting and Monsters and Men, also about police shooting unarmed black men. The more I see from this movie, the more it looks so powerful and raw and real and a must-see for me. ›››

Check Out This Killer Vintage 'Godzilla: King of the Monsters' Trailer

    Godzilla: King of the Monsters

“Their reign begins.” This is awesome!! A fan has recut and edited the first trailer for Michael Dougherty’s Godzilla: King of the Monsters, first released at Comic-Con this year. He has remade the trailer to look and play like a vintage 1960s Japanese trailer for a Godzilla movie from then and it’s pretty much perfect. This sequel to Gareth Edwards’s Godzilla reboot from 2014 is directed by Michael Dougherty (Trick ‘r Treat, Krampus), with Godzilla battling other mythical massive monsters, including Mothra, Rodan, and his ultimate nemesis, the three headed King Ghidorah. It’s going to be epic. Dougherty’s Godzilla: King of the Monsters stars Millie Bobby Brown (from “Stranger Things”) plus Bradley Whitford, Vera Farmiga, Sally Hawkins, O’Shea Jackson Jr., Kyle Chandler, Charles Dance, Zhang Ziyi, Thomas Middleditch, with Ken Watanabe. I really love it when these kind of fan edits turn out this good. Enjoy. ›››

The Party's Not Over Yet! Official Trailer for Netflix's 'The After Party'

    The After Party Trailer

“Your rap career is not over! … Tonight, the after party to end all after parties.” Netflix has launched a trailer for an indie comedy titled The After Party, a film about an up-and-coming rapper who almost ruins his career when he pukes on Wiz Khalifa. His friend convinces him to take him to an after party where he’ll have another shot at making it big if he can perform and impress the attendees. The story takes place during “one wild night”, of course. The cast includes Kyle Harvey, Harrison Holzer, Shelley Hennig, Teyana Taylor, Jordan Rock, Amin Joseph, Andy Buckley, and Blair Underwood; featuring cameos by Wiz Khalifa, French Montana, DJ Khaled, Ski Mask the Slump God, Desiigner, Pusha T, Jadakiss, Tee Grizzley, Young M.A., and more. This looks funky and entertaining, but nothing that will make a real mark in the end. ›››

  • Official Trailer for 'All Styles' Feature Film Starring Dancer 'Fik-Shun'

Official Trailer for 'All Styles' Feature Film Starring Dancer 'Fik-Shun'

    All Styles Trailer

“I’m starting this crew… And I’d love for you to be in it.” Shout Factory + Showtime have debuted a trailer for the film All Styles, a feature dance drama starring “So You Think You Can Dance: Season 10” winner Du-Shaunt “Fik-Shun” Stegall in his first major acting role. “Fik-Shun” plays a talented hip-hop dancer from Las Vegas named Brandon, who is heading off to college. He decides to put together a ragtag crew of dancers, featuring all different style (hence the title), to compete in a competition against his former friends. This also stars Keon Motakhaveri, Tetona Jackson, James Moses Black, Heather Morris, Erica Klein, Hokuto “Hok” Konishi, Taylor Pierce, and Raymond “Nasty Ray” Mora. This concept isn’t that original, films like School of Rock have played on the “different styles” for a competition concept, but it does look fresh and fun. And it’s obviously meant to inspire more people to follow their dreams of dancing. ›››
