Second 'Beautiful Boy' Trailer with Steve Carell & Timothée Chalamet

    Beautiful Boy Trailer

“It’s hard as hell to get sober.” Amazon Studios has debuted the second official trailer for Beautiful Boy, an adaptation from director Felix van Groeningen. This emotional, challenging familial drama examines the relationship between a father and his drug addict son, and the challenges they face trying to deal with these troubles together. Beautiful Boy stars Steve Carell and Timothée Chalamet as father and son David and Nic, dealing with their experiences of “survival, relapse, and recovery in a family coping with addiction over many years.” The full cast includes Maura Tierney, Christian Convery, Oakley Bull, Kaitlyn Dever, Amy Ryan, Stefanie Scott, and Julian Works. This premiered to mostly mixed reviews at TIFF, it’s a very muted middle-of-the-road addiction film. These trailers are better than actual the film, in my opinion. ›››

Full Trailer for Canadian Film 'Knuckleball' – An R-Rated 'Home Alone'

    Knuckleball Trailer

To catch a predator, he must think like one. Freestyle Releasing has unveiled an official trailer for an indie horror thriller titled Knuckleball, the latest film from Canadian filmmaker Michael Peterson (Eddies: The Documentary, Lloyd the Conqueror). Described as “an R-rated spin on Home Alone,” the film is about a 12-year-old boy who goes to visit his grandfather’s isolated farm. When his secretive grandfather dies suddenly in the night, he must gear up and defend his home at all costs. Luca Villacis stars as Henry, and the cast includes Michael Ironside, Munro Chambers, Kathleen Munroe, and Chenier Hundal. This looks fun, but certainly derivative and unoriginal. I dig the Home Alone concept, of course, but I always hope new filmmakers twist it and do something more with it if they’re going to borrow it. We’ll see if this is any good. ›››

The Battle of the Bulge: Wunderland Trailer

“Listen up fellas! Orders are in – we’re moving back to the front.” Cinedigm is releasing this new WWII film on VOD next month, so here’s the trailer for The Battle of the Bulge: Wunderland. This independently produced WWII film is based on a true events, taking place on Christmas 1944 in Germany. Army Lt. Robert Cappa and his platoon of 2nd Infantry Division soldiers have been ordered to hold a vital road junction against the first stages of an attacking German Army in the epic Battle of the War known as “The Battle of the Bulge.” The film stars its writer/director, Steven Luke (or Luke Schuetzle), as Lt. Cappa, plus Tom Berenger, Mikeal Burgin, Aaron Courteau, Casey Sill, Cody Fleury, Adam Simon, Apostolos Gliarmis, and Andrew Stecker. This just doesn’t look so good, the quality of the filmmaking is terrible. ›››

    Nigerian Prince Trailer

“Anyone can fall for scams…” Vertical Entertainment has debuted the official trailer for an indie drama titled Nigerian Prince, which first premiered at the Tribeca Film Festival earlier this year. Made by a New York-based Nigerian-American filmmaker, the film tells the story of a Nigerian-American teenager who is sent back to Nigeria indefinitely by his mother. There he joins forces with a dangerous internet scammer in order to figure out how to return to the United States. Antonio J Bell stars as Eze, along with Chinaza Uche, Tina Mba, Bimbo Manuel, Ebbe Bassey, Rita Edward, Craig Stott, Dean Cameron, Omar Maskati, and Russell G. Jones. This looks like it gets extra violent and way more intensely thrilling than it seems at the start. I’m definitely curious about this, looks like a well-made indie film. Take a look below. ›››

    Change in the Air Trailer

“Come to the neighborhood, if you want to see her… There’s something quite special about her…” Screen Media has debuted the official trailer for a light-hearted drama titled Change in the Air, the directorial debut of a filmmaker named Dianne Dreyer, who has worked for nearly 30 years as a script supervisor. When a beguiling woman moves in next door, a quiet neighborhood is awakened, bringing people face to face with their secrets and, ultimately, themselves. There’s a peculiar mystical side to this that is uplifting and mysterious. Is she supposed to be God? Rachel Brosnahan (from “The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel”) stars, with Mary Beth Hurt, Peter Gerety, Aidan Quinn, Olympia Dukakis, Macy Gray, Satya Bhabha, M. Emmett Walsh, Seth Gilliam, and Michael Potts. This looks charming and whimsical, worth a look. ›››

  • New Trailer for Long Lost Sci-Fi Film 'Replicas' Starring Keanu Reeves

New Trailer for Long Lost Sci-Fi Film 'Replicas' Starring Keanu Reeves

    Replicas Trailer

“Standby to initiate neural imprint. All functions: go.” Entertainment Studios has revealed another official trailer for the sci-fi thriller titled Replicas, starring Keanu Reeves as a mad scientists who tries to figure out how to bring back his family after they are killed in a car accident. He eventually tries to clone them but we all know how that turns out. The first trailer for this showed up last fall, almost a year ago, and after an appearance at the New York Comic-Con this film dropped off the schedule. There’s still no release date, but it looks like they’re planning to finally release it sometime soon. The full cast includes Alice Eve, Thomas Middleditch, Emily Alyn Lind, John Ortiz, Emjay Anthony, and Nyasha Hatendi. Unfortuantely this doesn’t look any better than it did last year, perhaps trying to mix too many concepts in one big movie. ›››

    Captain Marvel Trailer

“I keep having these memories… I see flashes, I think I had a life here. But I can’t tell if it’s real.” Marvel Studios + Disney have unveiled the first official trailer for the highly anticipated Captain Marvel movie, starring Brie Larson as the iconic Marvel superhero. Larson plays Carol Danvers, an Air Force fighter pilot who becomes one of the universe’s most powerful heroes when Earth is caught in the middle of a galactic war between two alien races. Set in the 1990s, Captain Marvel is an all-new adventure from a previously unseen period in the history of the Marvel Cinematic Universe (which includes Blockbuster!). The film stars Gemma Chan, Jude Law, Ben Mendelsohn, Lee Pace, Djimon Hounsou, Annette Bening, Colin Ford, Lashana Lynch, and Samuel L. Jackson as Nick Fury. This is a good ole fashioned teaser, with some epic footage along with a re-introduction of Fury. So far so good!! I really enjoyed this teaser, bring it. ›››

    Stan & Ollie Trailer

“It’s amazing you two are still going strong. Still using the same old material.” Entertainment One UK has unveiled the first official trailer for Stan & Ollie, a movie about two movie legends – Laurel and Hardy. This comedy stars Steve Coogan as Stan Laurel and John C. Reilly as Oliver Hardy as they tour around the UK in what would become the pair’s triumphant farewell tour. They struggle to maintain their friendship after so many years, but find joy again in performing for audiences, solidifying their timeless legacy. The full cast includes Shirley Henderson, Nina Arianda, Danny Huston, Stephanie Hyam, Rufus Jones, Susy Kane, and Joseph Balderrama. This looks stupendous! It’s not really a biopic (thankfully) nor is it about their time in Hollywood, it seems to be about two good friends who love making people laugh. Enjoy. ›››

  • Official Trailer for Repulsive Documentary 'Caniba' About Cannibalism

Official Trailer for Repulsive Documentary 'Caniba' About Cannibalism

    Caniba Trailer

“I can’t stomach this anymore. It’s too much.” Grasshopper Film has debuted the full trailer for a chilling, disgusting, fascinating documentary titled Caniba, which premiered at the Venice, Toronto, and New York Film Festivals last year – finally getting an official release this year. It’s the latest film from the directors of Leviathan and Somniloquies. The controversial documentary is an intimate portrait of Japanese cannibal Issei Sagawa. It’s described as “a film that reflects on the discomforting significance of cannibalistic desire in human existence through the prism of one Japanese man, Issei Sagawa, and his mysterious relationship with his brother, Jun Sagawa.” This is a very hard film to watch, and there were many walkouts at festival screenings last year, because many may not be able to stomach it at all. Don’t eat before watching the trailer. ›››

  • Tyler Hoechlin & Julianne Hough in Official Trailer for Biopic 'Bigger'

Tyler Hoechlin & Julianne Hough in Official Trailer for Biopic 'Bigger'

    Bigger Trailer

“How would you like to be the face of bodybuilding?” Freestyle Releasing has debuted an official trailer for an indie biopic titled Bigger, from filmmaker George Gallo. The film tells the story of the grandfathers of fitness as we now know it, Joe & Ben Weider. Facing anti-Semitism and extreme poverty, the brothers beat all odds to build an empire and inspire generations. Along the way, they discovered Arnold Schwarzenegger and founded bodybuilding as a sport. This stars Tyler Hoechlin as Joe Weider, plus Julianne Hough, Kevin Durand, Colton Haynes, Victoria Justice, DJ Qualls, Steve Guttenberg, Robert Forster, Aneurin Barnard, Max Martini, Tom Arnold, along with Calum Von Moger as a young Arnold. This doesn’t look as good as it should, and seems a bit oddly timed to focus on the “impeccable man” in this day and age. Isn’t machoism becoming a bit old fashioned? I’d rather watch a documentary about body builders. ›››
