Awesome Trailer for 'Mad Max'-Inspired Dutch Action Thriller 'Molly'

    Molly Trailer

“We need that girl.” Artsploitation Films has released an official US trailer for an action thriller indie film titled Molly, which is getting a direct-to-DVD/VOD release this week. I’m surprised we haven’t heard about this before? Molly is described as “Mad Max meets Turbo Kid in this electrifying and imaginative tale of one young woman’s determined struggle to survive in an inhospitable world.” It’s a post-apocalyptic survival film, starring Julia Batelaan as the badass heroine Molly. Marauders in this gritty future try to hunt her down and make her to fight in their fighting pit for their entertainment. Also starring Emma de Paauw, Annelies Appelhof, Andre Dongelmans, and Joost Bolt. As cheesy as this all sounds, it actually looks pretty cool. The super low budget look and feel honestly works well with this, and the action looks awesome. ›››

  • First Trailer for Netflix Horror Film 'Malevolent' Starring Florence Pugh

First Trailer for Netflix Horror Film 'Malevolent' Starring Florence Pugh

    Malevolent Trailer

“Angela, it’s just a house…” Netflix has debuted the first trailer for an indie horror titled Malevolent, a new horror film by Icelandic filmmaker Olaf de Fleur Johannesson. The chilling thriller film is about a pair of fake paranormal investigators who suffer the ultimate reality check when confronted by the horrors that lie hidden within a haunted orphanage. But supernatural terrors are the least of their problems when they discover the very real evil lurking in the isolated house. Starring Florence Pugh and Ben Lloyd-Hughes, along with Celia Imrie, Scott Chambers, and Georgina Bevan. This starts out pretty mellow, but get intense fast and looks very freaky once they get into the house. The sound in this trailer is really unsettling as well. Quite an effectively creepy trailer, perfect to launch at the beginning of scary October. Take a look. ›››

  • Another Short Trailer for Paul Dano's 'Wildlife' Starring Carey Mulligan

Another Short Trailer for Paul Dano's 'Wildlife' Starring Carey Mulligan

    Wildlife Trailer

“I feel like I need to wake up.” IFC Films has debuted a new 60-second trailer for Wildlife, the directorial debut of actor Paul Dano. This highly regarded film premiered at the Sundance Film Festival earlier this year, played at the Cannes Film Festival, and is now showing at the New York Film Festival after stopping by TIFF – you can see the full trailer here. And it’s still getting rave reviews each time it plays at a fest. Wildlife tells the story of a young husband and wife living in the 1960s in a small town in Montana, adapted from Richard Ford’s novel of the same name. Carey Mulligan and Jake Gyllenhaal star, and Ed Oxenbould plays their teenage son. It’s a subtle film about family and the breakdown of a family by following Mulligan as the housewife who realizes she needs to be free. The cast includes Bill Camp & Zoe Margaret Colletti. The film arrives in limited theaters at the end of this month for those who have been waiting to finally see it. ›››

  • Arinzé Kene & Michaela Coel in First Trailer for Musical 'Been So Long'

Arinzé Kene & Michaela Coel in First Trailer for Musical 'Been So Long'

    Been So Long Trailer

“This is Camden, where everyone has a story…” Netflix has finally unveiled an official trailer for an indie romantic musical titled Been So Long, which is premiering at the London Film Festival this month before arriving on Netflix. This honestly looks like the first great movie musical since La La Land, and I’ve got a really good feeling it’s going to be wonderful. Been So Long stars Michaela Coel as Simone, a dedicated single mother who, on an unusual night out on the town, is charmed by a handsome yet troubled stranger named Raymond, played by Arinzé Kene. Also starring George MacKay, Joe Dempsie, Luke Norris, Arsher Ali, Tom Forbes, Ashley Thomas, and Rakie Ayola. This isn’t the greatest trailer, but there’s still something about this that feels magical. As a fan of musicals myself, I can’t wait to see this. Take a peek. ›››

Official Trailer for 'Mooch' Doc About Anthony 'The Mooch' Scaramucci

    Mooch Doc Trailer

“All he really cares about is access to power.” Giant Interactive has revealed the trailer for a documentary titled Mooch, about the infamous White House Communications Director named Anthony “The Mooch” Scaramucci. Made by doc filmmaker Andrew J. Muscato (Doped: The Dirty Side of Sports, Muhammad Ali: A Life), he was already working on this well before he ended up getting the White House job. “Anthony, I always thought was an interesting kind of creature of Wall Street, who I thought, through a film, I could kind of introduce to the world. But recently he kind of pre-empted me and introduced himself,” Muscato explains. The rest is history. And he was there to capture it all. Mooch is being released very quickly straight to VOD later this month, if anyone wants to watch. And this isn’t a puff piece – it thoroughly criticizes him. ›››

  • Teaser Trailer for 'Rocketman' Starring Taron Egerton as Elton John

Teaser Trailer for 'Rocketman' Starring Taron Egerton as Elton John

    Rocketman Trailer

“There are moments in a rockstars life, that define who he is… Where there was darkness, there is now: you.” Paramount has released the first teaser trailer for Rocketman, an epic biopic examining the life of famed musician Elton John, the latest film made by Dexter Fletcher (Wild Bill, Sunshine on Leith, Eddie the Eagle). Young actor Taron Egerton stars as Elton, taking us on a musical fantasy and journey through his life and experiences. From the looks of it, this will cover quite a bit of time not just one specific period, including his musical partnership with Bernie Taupin, played by Jamie Bell. The cast also includes Bryce Dallas Howard, Richard Madden, Steven Mackintosh, and Gemma Jones. So far, so good! This is looking fantastic! I’m pretty much sold already, even though it’s just a teaser. The shot of the crowd starting to float is really cool, it’s slick touches like that that will make this film really stand out. • Official Red Band Trailer for R-Rated Animated French Movie 'MFKZ'

Official Red Band Trailer for R-Rated Animated French Movie 'MFKZ'

    MFKZ Trailer

“There’s no way you two can run forever.” GKids has debuted a gnarly red band trailer for an animated movie from France titled MFKZ, made by Shôjirô Nishimi & Guillaume Renard, based on Renard’s comic book series. The title is an abbreviation because the actual French title is Mutafukaz, but you can’t put that out in the US. The film is described as a “dark but stunningly animated sci-fi vision that mixes anime, film noir, and Lucha Libre in an orgy of video game-inspired mayhem.” The feature is a collaboration between French comic artist Guillaume “RUN” Renard and the “ultra-hip” Japanese animation house Studio 4°C, of Tekkonkinkreet, Genius Party, and Mind Game. The new English release features the voices of Michael Chiklis, Giancarlo Esposito, Jorge Gutierrez, Dascha Polanco, RZA, Vince Staples, and Danny Trejo. This actually looks crazy cool, something different. And good to see another R-rated animated movie. ›››

  • Will Ferrell & John C. Reilly in Fun First Trailer for 'Holmes & Watson'

Will Ferrell & John C. Reilly in Fun First Trailer for 'Holmes & Watson'

    Holmes and Watson Trailer

“His methods are ingenious. He’s a master of disguise. And his mind is brilliant.” Sony Pictures has finally debuted the first trailer for the comedy titled Holmes & Watson, reuniting the original “Step Brothers” – Will Ferrell and John C. Reilly – in a new comedy from another time. Ferrell plays Sherlock Holmes, and Reilly plays Dr. Watson. We can definitely say you’ve never seen a Sherlock Holmes movie like this before. It looks as ridiculous as it sounds, especially with these two making a mess of, well, everything. The full cast includes Kelly Macdonald, Rebecca Hall, Lauren Lapkus, Noah Jupe, Hugh Laurie as Mycroft, Pam Ferris, Bella Ramsey, Rob Brydon, Kieran O’Brien, Bronson Webb, and Jordan Long; with Ralph Fiennes as Moriarty. This looks totally kooky and absurd, and a bit too dumb for my tastes. Enjoy. ›››

Watch: Erin Sanger's Short Film 'Mutt' About an Intervention + a Dog

    Mutt Short FIlm

“Is that a pitbull?” “Um, it’s a mix. His name’s Floyd. Lindsey said he could come.” A bit of a different short film to feature today, much more somber and emotional. This one is titled Mutt, a 13-minute short written and directed by filmmaker Erin Sanger. The story is about a father and sister who stage an intervention. It’s another film about addiction and the struggles that come with it, but with a nice canine twist. Mutt stars Corey Cost, Taylor Hess, and Noel Wilson. Plus the dog Booker T. playing Floyd. This is an excellent short film all around, from performances to cinematography. Another talented filmmaker to keep an eye on. ›››

Interview: Filmmaker Zhang Yimou on 'Shadow' + Changes in Cinema

    Zhang Yimou Interview

Acclaimed, iconic Chinese filmmaker Zhang Yimou is ready to release his 21st feature film since his debut as a filmmaker in the 1980s. Titled Shadow, the film is another martial arts epic yet also a drama, based on the Three Kingdoms era in Chinese history. Over the years, Zhang Yimou has won two BAFTA Film Awards (for Raise the Red Lantern in 1991 and To Live in 1994), but never an Academy Award or Golden Globe. He still keeps making films year after year, working mostly in China nowadays, though still trying his hand at a Hollywood blockbuster (The Great Wall) in addition to a war-time drama (The Flowers of War). Shadow premiered at the Venice Film Festival this year, and also played at the Toronto Film Festival. I had a chance to interview the legendary Zhang Yimou during his visit to the festivals, and I am honored I could meet him. ›››
