India Eisley in First Trailer for Mirror Image Horror Film 'Look Away'

    Look Away Trailer

“Why are you doing this!?” Vertical Entertainment has released an official trailer for a horror thriller film titled Look Away, the latest feature from director Assaf Bernstein (of The Debt). The twisty, not-so-clever concept involves a disconnected, insecure high school teen who switches places with her “supportive, but evil, twin that she discovers in the mirror’s reflection.” Who then acts out on other impulses and feelings. Look Away stars India Eisley as Maria and “Airam” (which is, obviously, just Maria spelled backwards), as well as Jason Isaacs, Mira Sorvino, Harrison Gilbertson, Penelope Mitchell, Adam Hurtig, and Kristen Harris. Looks like it will all play out exactly as expected, of course she’s going to learn her lesson. ›››

First Trailer for Frederick Wiseman's Documentary 'Monrovia, Indiana'

    Monrovia, Indiana Trailer

“Thanks for stopping by.” The first official trailer has debuted for the documentary Monrovia, Indiana, the latest film by iconic doc filmmaker Frederick Wiseman. This premiered at the Venice Film Festival, played at TIFF, and is also stopping by the New York & London Film Festivals next. Monrovia, Indiana is another entry in Wiseman’s observational oeuvre, taking us to a very small town in the middle of America. Wiseman explains: “During the nine weeks of filming the residents of Monrovia were helpful, friendly and welcoming and gave me access to all aspects of daily life. Life in big American cities on the east and west coasts is regularly reported on and I was interested in learning more about life in small town America and sharing my view.” The film runs 2 hours, 23 minutes and is worth a watch if you’re a fan of Wiseman’s docs. ›››

Peter Jackson's Colorized WWI Film 'They Shall Not Grow Old' Teaser

They Shall Not Grow Old Trailer

Get your first look at the new Peter Jackson movie! They Shall Not Grow Old is a feature documentary made by Peter Jackson and co-directed by Paul Wheatcroft. It’s premiering at the London Film Festival next month, and then will open in cinemas in both 2D & 3D. The film features footage from World War I, known as “The Great War”, that has been cleaned up, digitized, and colorized to look like it’s modern footage from today. “Reaching into the mists of time, Jackson aims to give these men voices, investigate the hopes and fears of the veterans, the humility and humanity that represented a generation changed forever by a global war.” Co-commissioned by 14-18 NOW and Imperial War Museums in association with the BBC. The initial premiere in October will include a Q&A with Peter Jackson, hosted by Mark Kermode, that will be broadcast to all the cinemas around the UK. This is just more of an introductory teaser than a real trailer. Take a look. ›››

Official Trailer for Brett Simon's Crime Comedy 'Better Start Running'

    Better Start Running Trailer

“What kind of moron stops at roadside attractions when we’re on the run?” “I just want everyone to have a good time.” Freestyle Releasing has debuted an official trailer for an indie crime comedy titled Better Start Running, which premiered at the Newport Beach Film Festival this year. This is the latest film from director Brett Simon, who made one of my favorite underrated indie films – Assassination of a High School President in 2008 (read my original review here). Better Start Running is about an ordinary store clerk and a group of misfits who end up on the run driving around without anywhere to go. Alex Sharp stars, with Analeigh Tipton, Jeremy Irons, Edi Gathegi, plus Maria Bello and Karan Soni. This looks totally awkward and not that original. Could be good, could be bad, the footage isn’t great. Maybe the film is better. ›››

Tony Revolori & Jason Mantzoukas in Trailer for 'The Long Dumb Road'

    The Long Dumb Road Trailer

“You’re one of the realest people I think I’ve ever met.” The Film Arcade has revealed the first official trailer for indie comedy The Long Dumb Road, which premiered as the Closing Night film at the Sundance Film Festival earlier this year. The film stars Tony Revolori (from The Grand Budapest Hotel) as a boy leaving home to drive cross country towards college. He decides to give a ride to a stranger he randomly meets along the way. The two both find themselves at personal crossroads and decide to embark on an unplanned road trip across the American Southwest, ending up in all kinds of trouble. Comedian Jason Mantzoukas co-stars as Richard in this, along with Taissa Farmiga, Ron Livingston, Grace Gummer, Casey Wilson, Pamela Reed, Ciara Bravo, and Cynthy Wu. It’s a fun road trip film, as mildly amusing as it looks here. ›››

Official Trailer for 'Never-Ending Man: Hayao Miyazaki' Documentary

    Never-Ending Man: Hayao Miyazaki Trailer

“What do I do with the time I have left?” GKids has unveiled an official US trailer for the long lost Miyazaki documentary titled Never-Ending Man: Hayao Miyazaki, which they will be releasing in US theaters later this year (via Awards Circuit). The doc was originally made for TV and released in Japan back in 2016, but has been awaiting an international release ever since then. Never-Ending Man: Hayao Miyazaki spends intimate time with Miyazaki-san himself, examining his time since retirement in 2013. It follows his very first attempts to use computers for animation. The big question it asks: “Can an old master who thinks he’s past his prime shine once again?” This film fits right in with that other wonderful Ghibli doc, Kingdom of Dreams and Madness. I can’t wait to see this, I’ve been waiting patiently for it..! Finally coming to theaters. ›››

“She’s your sister. You have to protect her.” GKids has unveiled a new official trailer for the animated film Mirai, which premiered at the Cannes Film Festival in Directors’ Fortnight earlier this year. The latest film by master Japanese animation filmmaker Mamoru Hosoda (The Girl Who Leapt Through Time, Summer Wars, Wolf Children, The Boy and the Beast), the film is a delightful adventure following a young Japanese boy living with his parents. His life is disrupted by the arrival of a newborn baby girl, named Mirai, which his parents bring home one day. • Official US Trailer for Ali Abbasi's Extra Funky Swedish Delight 'Border'

Official US Trailer for Ali Abbasi's Extra Funky Swedish Delight 'Border'

    Border Trailer

“There’s no flaw in you.” Neon has released the first official US trailer for the “instant cult classic” Swedish film Border, originally titled Gräns, which originally premiered in Un Certain Regard at the Cannes Film Festival this summer. This was easily one of my favorite films of Cannes this year, an extra funky, wacky, ingenious, one-of-a-kind Swedish tale of love and monsters. Border is about a woman named Tina, played under heavy make-up by Eva Melander, who works as a customs agent, sniffing out sneaky people hiding things. One day she encounters a strange man who she’s oddly attracted to, and they strike up a relationship leading to her learning the truth about herself. The cast includes Eero Milonoff, Jorgen Thorsson, Ann Petren, and Sten Ljunggren. This little film is so weird and funky, but so damn good. Nothing else like it. ›››

  • Michael Kelly in First Trailer for Little League Betting Film 'All Square'

Michael Kelly in First Trailer for Little League Betting Film 'All Square'

    All Square Trailer

“I saw an untapped market…” Taking all bets! Vertical Entertainment has released an official trailer for an indie comedy titled All Square, which first premiered at the SXSW Film Festival this year and played at a few other fests. All Square stars character actor Michael Kelly as a down-on-his-luck bookie who befriends an ex-girlfriend’s son and begins taking bets on his little league games, creating chaos in the community. Sounds like fun, actually. The full ensemble cast of this indie includes Pamela Adlon, Jesse Ray Sheps, Josh Lucas, Tom Everett Scott, Isiah Whitlock Jr., Harris Yulin, Yeardley Smith, Jonathan Rosenthal, Craig Walker, Jay Larson, Neal Huff, and Brett Davis. This looks good – like Scorsese meets Linklater telling an amusing small-town crime story surrounding little league baseball. Check it out. ›››

  • First Trailer for 'X-Men: Dark Phoenix' Spin-Off Starring Sophie Turner

First Trailer for 'X-Men: Dark Phoenix' Spin-Off Starring Sophie Turner

    X-Men: Dark Phoenix Trailer

“They can’t begin to comprehend what you are…” 20th Century Fox has finally debuted the first trailer for Dark Phoenix, the X-Men spin-off movie focusing on Jean Grey as she becomes the “Dark Phoenix”. This is all connected to the previous X-Men series, and brings back a few of the characters from the most recent movies. Sophie Turner (from “Game of Thrones” and Josie) replaces Famke Janssen as Jean Grey; she already appeared in X-Men: Apocalypse in 2016 as Phoenix. The cast includes many old and new members: James McAvoy, Jennifer Lawrence, Evan Peters, Michael Fassbender, Nicholas Hoult, Kodi Smit-McPhee, Alexandra Shipp, plus Jessica Chastain, Ato Essandoh, and Scott Shepherd. This looks a bit different than expected, not as much action. And definitely more of a bigger X-Men movie than something small and focused, but perhaps they felt it was necessary to connect with audiences of all kinds. ›››
