Order Up! Second Trailer for 'The Founder' Starring Michael Keaton

    The Founder Trailer

The Weinstein Company has released a second trailer for The Founder, from director John Lee Hancock, starring Oscar nominee Michael Keaton as McDonald’s founder Ray Kroc. This was delayed from release in August, but has been earning great buzz from early screenings. The story is actually about how Kroc sort of “stole” the burger business from the McDonald brothers, played by Nick Offerman and John Carroll Lynch, who originally came up with the idea for a fast food burger joint in the 1950s. Also starring Laura Dern, Linda Cardellini, Patrick Wilson and B.J. Novak. TWC also just announced the film is playing in one theater in Los Angeles this week for Oscar qualification, before eventually (re-)opening in January. ›››

    Origin Trailer

“I’m not going to let you die at all.” An official US trailer has debuted for an indie Swedish sci-fi film titled Origin, based around “biohacking”. As described on their poster, “biohacking” is the exploitation of genetic material (for criminal purposes). The film is about three students at a university who discover a way to make cells age slower. It’s a film about “love, ambition and finding yourself.” Starring Emelia Hansson, Rikard Björk, Rafael Pettersson and Sandra Redlaff. This film is made by friends of FS, Swedish filmmakers Andreas Climent & André Hedetoft, who made two shorts we’ve written about before: Logan and Double Trouble. • Dakota Johnson & Jamie Dornan in Full Trailer for 'Fifty Shades Darker'

Dakota Johnson & Jamie Dornan in Full Trailer for 'Fifty Shades Darker'

    Fifty Shades Darker

“Do you want to be kept, or have respect?” This should be labeled as a “Don’t Watch”, but that will probably just entice more people to watch it. Universal has debuted a second full-length trailer for the Fifty Shades of Grey sequel titled Fifty Shades Darker, directed this time by James Foley (of Glengarry Glen Ross). It’s full of as much sex, sleaze and cheese as they can pack in – you’ve been warned. Dakota Johnson returns to play Anastasia Steele, and Jamie Dornan returns to play her tormented lover Christian Grey. Despite breaking up, they obviously get back together, but there’s a mysterious ghost girl – or something like that. Also starring Kim Basinger, Tyler Hoechlin, Bella Heathcote, Hugh Dancy, Max Martini, Marcia Gay Harden, Rita Ora and Luke Grimes. Really, this isn’t worth your time, but have at it if you wish. ›››

Watch: Amy Nicholson's Short Doc 'Pickle' About Caring for Animals

    Pickle Short Documentary

Pickle is a peculiar, amusing, quirky, entertaining short unlike anything else you’ve seen before. Made by Amy Nicholson, a New York-based filmmaker of docs and other projects, the short features her parents, Tom & Debbie Nicholson, who are dedicated caretakers of various odd creatures that “suffer from unusual medical conditions”. The short film explores the “human capacity to care for all creatures throughout their sometimes greatly protracted lives until their occasionally sudden and unfortunate deaths.” Pickle was a fish that couldn’t swim; they also cared for an obese chicken, a cat with a heart condition, a non-buoyant goose, and a paraplegic possum. This unusual but heartfelt short deserves a small piece of your time. Watch below. ›››

Prologue for Nolan's 'Dunkirk' to Screen Before 'Rogue One' in IMAX

    Dunkirk

Looks like we’re getting another Christopher Nolan prologue in theaters this December. Reports from TrailerTrack and SlashFilm have confirmed that there is a 7-minute prologue for Nolan’s Dunkirk playing in front of Rogue One: A Star Wars Story. The new solo Star Wars movie opens in theaters December 16th (in just over a week), including in most IMAX theaters all over the world. The reports state that this 7-minute prologue (along with a brand new trailer) will play exclusively in IMAX, and won’t end up online. This is the same as the IMAX prologue for The Dark Knight (and TDKR) which only showed in theaters in December before the film opened the next summer. I’m very excited to see this footage, whatever it may be. ›››

  • First Trailer for William Oldroyd's 'Lady Macbeth' with Florence Pugh

First Trailer for William Oldroyd's 'Lady Macbeth' with Florence Pugh

    Lady Macbeth Trailer

“A seductive mix of sex and murder.” Roadside Attractions has unveiled a trailer for the film Lady Macbeth, an adaptation of Nikolai Leskov’s novella “Lady Macbeth of the Mtsensk“. This classic period piece thriller is set during the 19th century, and involves a young woman being sold into a marriage with a middle-aged man that abuses her, so she figures out a way to get rid of him. Florence Pugh plays Katherine, and the cast includes Christopher Fairbank, Cosmo Jarvis, Bill Fellows, Paul Hilton, Naomi Ackie, and Ian Conningham. This already premiered at film festivals earlier this fall, and is also playing at the Sundance Film Festival coming up in January. Not really my kind of film, but might be interesting to some. The 25 Best Films of 2016

“City of stars, there’s so much that I can’t see…” It’s here! One of the annual must-see best of the year lists is actually a video countdown made by my colleague David Ehrlich (follow him @davidehrlich). He counts down his 25 best films of the year in a video edited together with footage and music from each of the films. This is such an entertaining way to count down the best cinema of 2016, and it always makes me want to watch each one of these (even the ones I’ve seen before). There’s so many great films on Ehrlich’s list this year – from Jackie to La La Land to The Fits to Moonlight, and yes, even Swiss Army Man is superb. Enjoy. ›››

    The Circle Trailer

Love it when we get surprises like this. EuropaCorp USA has revealed a trailer for the adaptation of the best-selling book The Circle, about a mysterious tech company that hires a young woman who learns there’s more to this place than it seems. The book by Dave Eggers is very popular right now, and they made this adaptation very quickly. Emma Watson stars, along with Tom Hanks as the CEO of the company, plus Karen Gillan, John Boyega, Bill Paxton, Patton Oswalt, Glenne Headly, Ellar Coltrane, Ellen Wong, Poorna Jagannathan and Nate Corddry. This is the latest film from one of my favorite directors, James Ponsoldt, of The Spectacular Now and The End of the Tour. And it looks damn good. Enjoy. ›››

  • Stephen Dorff Plays a Country Singer in Official Trailer for 'Wheeler'

Stephen Dorff Plays a Country Singer in Official Trailer for 'Wheeler'

    Wheeler Trailer

“It all begins with a song…” Momentum Pictures has unveiled a full trailer for a film titled Wheeler, a faux-documentary about an aspiring country music singer from Texas who heads to Nashville to make his dream come true. Actor Stephen Dorff plays Wheeler, underneath lots of make-up and a heavy country western accent, and no one knew it was him when he was making the film. As explained by Rolling Stone: “only a handful of the cast knew that it was Dorff underneath the makeup, and fans at the Bluebird Café, where he performed, were also unaware.” Nice work pulling that off. I can’t tell if this film is making fun of country music, or just having fun creating a fake musician, but it actually looks like it’s worth checking out. ›››

  • Teaser Trailer for Michael Bay's Latest 'Transformers: The Last Knight'

Teaser Trailer for Michael Bay's Latest 'Transformers: The Last Knight'

    Transformers: The Last Knight Trailer

Paramount has unleashed the first trailer for Michael Bay’s latest Transformers sequel, Transformers: The Last Knight, yet again starring Mark Wahlberg (who was introduced in Age of Extinction). This sequel puts an interesting spin on things, with the Transformers going back to medieval times and meeting up with King Arthur for an adventure. The full cast includes Anthony Hopkins, Laura Haddock, John Goodman, Stanley Tucci, John Turturro, Josh Duhamel, Isabela Moner, Santiago Cabrera, and Liam Garrigan as King Arthur; plus the same voices as before: Peter Cullen, Frank Welker and Ken Watanabe. I lost interest in this series after the last movie, but they’re really trying to make us care again with this fun back-in-time storyline. It honestly doesn’t look as bad as I was expecting. What do you think? ›››
