First Teaser Trailer for Coogan & Brydon's Sequel 'The Trip to Spain'

    The Trip to Spain Trailer

“Roll-around-on-the-floor-funny.” The first teaser trailer has debuted for the latest sequel to The Trip, the road trip comedy starring Steve Coogan and Rob Brydon. This latest film is titled The Trip to Spain and it’s literally about, as the title says, their trip to Spain. This is fun teaser trailer because it introduces the sequel ever-so-perfectly, not only with quotes and footage of them driving and singing (like idiots), but with the title cards explaining where each film premiered. I wish there was more footage in this teaser, but maybe it’s best that we don’t see anything else. Better to just go in and experience this. If you loved The Trip or The Trip to Italy before this, make sure you catch this film when it arrives. Hopefully it’s just as funny. Dive in. ›››

  • Julian Barratt Stars in First UK Trailer for British Cop Spoof 'Mindhorn'

Julian Barratt Stars in First UK Trailer for British Cop Spoof 'Mindhorn'

    Mindhorn

“You can’t hide the truth from Mindhorn.” Get ready for this. An official trailer has debuted for a British cop spoof movie titled Mindhorn, which actually premiered at the London Film Festival last year. Surprising for a spoof comedy, but that must mean this is way better than expected. Mindhorn is about a washed-up actor named Richard Thorncroft, played by comedian Julian Barratt, who played “Mindhorn” on a 1980s detective show. He has a bionic eye that allows him to literally “see the truth”, which is why he has the eye patch. Set in the current day, the film is about Mindhorn returning to the Isle of Man to take on the job of working as a real private detective. This also stars Andrea Riseborough, Essie Davis, Russell Tovey, Simon Farnaby, David Schofield, Nicholas Farrell, Simon Callow, and Steve Coogan. Have fun. ›››

  • First Trailer for War Drama 'Megan Leavey' About a Marine & Her Dog

First Trailer for War Drama 'Megan Leavey' About a Marine & Her Dog

    Megan Leavey Trailer

“What would you say to Rex, if he were here?” Bleecker Street has unveiled a trailer for a film titled Megan Leavey, telling the story of US Marine Corporal Megan Leavey, played by Kate Mara. Leavey served in Iraq in 2005 and 2006, and was assigned to “clean up” the K9 unit. There she befriended a dog named Rex, who was particularly aggressive when she first met him. She worked with him and trained him and they completed more than 100 missions together, before an IED injured both of them. She then fought to adopt him while home recovering. It’s based on a true story, which makes these even more emotional to watch. In addition to Mara, the cast includes Edie Falco, Common, Bradley Whitford, Ramon Rodriguez, and Geraldine James. As a big time dog lover, I’m so into this, doesn’t even matter what the footage looks like. ›››

  • Emilia Clarke in First Trailer for Tuscany Thriller 'Voice from the Stone'

Emilia Clarke in First Trailer for Tuscany Thriller 'Voice from the Stone'

    Voice from the Stone Trailer

“The voice is real.” Momentum Pictures has debuted a trailer for a thriller set in Tuscany titled Voice from the Stone, adapted from an Italian novel. Described as a “haunting and suspenseful romance set in 1950s Tuscany” at a 15th-century Italian castle, this Hitchcockian fairytale stars actress Emilia Clarke as Verena, a nurse who cares for a boy who has stopped speaking after the sudden death of his mother. While caring for him, she suddenly starts to hear the eerie voice of the boy’s dead mother, making her wonder if she is ill as well. The cast includes Marton Csokas, Caterina Murino, Remo Girone, Lisa Gastoni, and Edward Dring. This looks like a very moody, atmospheric thriller with some sleek cinematography. Check this out. ›››

    North by Northwest

“In the world of advertising, there’s no such thing as a lie. There’s only expedient exaggeration.” Fathom Events has officially announced an event for Alfred Hitchcock’s classic thriller North by Northwest, first released in 1959. Fathom and Warner Bros are showing North by Northwest on the big screen for two nights only – April 2nd and April 5th. The screenings will take place at theaters nationwide, as part of a special Fathom Events night presented by TCM Big Screen Classics. • New US Trailer for Cristian Mungiu's Film 'Graduation' from Romania

New US Trailer for Cristian Mungiu's Film 'Graduation' from Romania

    Graduation US Trailer

“A father will do anything to save his daughter’s future.” Sundance Selects + IFC Films have debuted the official US trailer for a film titled Graduation, made by acclaimed Romanian filmmaker Cristian Mungiu. Mungiu won the Palme d’Or at Cannes a few years ago for 4 Months 3 Weeks and 2 Days, and this new film also premiered in competition at Cannes last year. Graduation (or Bacalaureat in Romanian) is about a father and his daughter, who is just about to graduate and go to a university in the UK. But an attack against her jeopardizes everything. It’s a complex film about compromises and the implications of the parent’s role. The cast includes Adrian Titieni, Maria Dragus, Rares Andrici, Lia Bugnar, Malina Manovici and Vlad Ivanov. This received fairly positive reviews at Cannes, but it’s not better than Mungiu’s other films. ›››

Watch: Sci-Fi Short Film 'The Narrow World' About a Giant Kaiju Alien

    The Narrow World Short Film

Whoa. This short film from filmmaker Brent Bonacorso features a giant kaiju alien creature that arrives on Earth, but it’s actually a story about finding ourselves. The Narrow World is a film about an alien visitor that settles in Los Angeles, but it’s completely passive and silent in response to any interaction. “The best monsters are always metaphors, either for an outside force, or for an aspect of the human condition,” Brent explains. “The latter is what inspired me here. The subconscious mind that drives our actions by brute force, but that we’re most often completely unaware of. Something that feels alien to us, an incredibly powerful outsider that lives within us.” I dig the visuals, and admire the message in this, it’s definitely worth a watch. ›››

  • Second Trailer Arrives for Sequel 'Despicable Me 3' from Illumination

Second Trailer Arrives for Sequel 'Despicable Me 3' from Illumination

    Despicable Me 3 Trailer

“I can’t wait to meet my brother!” Universal has debuted a second trailer for Illumination Entertainment’s next sequel to Despicable Me, titled just Despicable Me 3. The story brings back the lovable villain Gru (and his minions) for another misadventure, this time involving his long lost twin brother Dru (who is also voiced by Steve Carell). Dru wasn’t revealed in the first trailer, but he finally is introduced in this one. The full voice cast includes Kristen Wiig returning as Lucy Wilde, along with Miranda Cosgrove, Russell Brand, Michael Beattie, Dana Gaier, plus also “South Park’s” Trey Parker as the stuck-in-the-80s supervillain Balthazar Bratt. This doesn’t look any better than it did in the first trailer, but have fun anyway. ›››

  • Smurfs Get Lost in a Third Trailer for Sony's 'Smurfs: The Lost Village'

Smurfs Get Lost in a Third Trailer for Sony's 'Smurfs: The Lost Village'

    Smurfs: The Lost Village Trailer

“It’s like a workout for more eyeballs.” Sony Pictures has revealed another new trailer for the CGI animated reboot of The Smurfs movie, titled Smurfs: The Lost Village. This one feels much more similar to the cartoon than those live-action hybrid movies a few years ago. With the release a month away, this trailer is packed with colorful, flashy footage of the Smurfs latest adventure. The plot seems to be about the Smurfs discovering a village of other female Smurfs, including one with a bow & arrow, which is an interesting twist on the usually tame Smurfs story. The Lost Village features the voices of Mandy Patinkin as Papa Smurf, Rainn Wilson as Gargamel, Joe Manganiello as Hefty, Demi Lovato as Smurfette, Jack McBrayer as Clumsy, + Danny Pudi as Brainy. As fun as this looks, I’m honestly not planning to see it. What about you? ›››

  • Trailer for Doc 'Karl Marx City' Journeying into Former East Germany

Trailer for Doc 'Karl Marx City' Journeying into Former East Germany

    Karl Marx City

“She was born in a place called Karl Marx City, where she claims she had a happy childhood.” Bond/360 has released an official trailer for the documentary Karl Marx City, which premiered at the Toronto and New York Film Festivals last fall. The film follows one of the filmmakers, Petra Epperlein, as she journeys through the former East Germany looking into her father’s 1999 suicide. It has been described as a “lean, smart, quick, well-made, and unsparing” documentary. It’s both a look into Cold War Germany, along with an investigation into her father’s potential connection with the Stasi secret police of the German Democratic Republic. This looks like a fascinating documentary with multiple layers of discussion and examination. I like this trailer because it’s so different than most trailers we see nowadays, and that’s definitely refreshing. ›››
