Three New TV Spots for 'The Dark Tower' Movie Reveal Extra Footage

    The Dark Tower Movie Footage

“You can’t stop what’s coming.” Sony Pictures has dropped off three new 30-second promo TV spots for the highly anticipated big screen version of Stephen King’s book series, The Dark Tower. Directed by Danish filmmaker Nikolaj Arcel, this cinematic version of the story is more sci-fi than fantasy, about a Gunslinger roaming an Old West-like landscape in pursuit of the man in black. Idris Elba stars as Roland Deschain, with Matthew McConaughey as the Man in Black. The cast includes Abbey Lee, Jackie Earle Haley, Fran Kranz, Tom Taylor, Katheryn Winnick, Alex McGregor, Nicholas Hamilton, Claudia Kim, and Michael Barbieri. These new TV spots focus on three different themes: Earth, Knight, and the Man in Black, of course. These spots actually play better than the first trailer, here’s to hoping this turned out good. ›››

  • First Full Trailer for Alien Invasion Thriller 'Revolt' Featuring Lee Pace

First Full Trailer for Alien Invasion Thriller 'Revolt' Featuring Lee Pace

    Revolt Trailer

“Must have some weakness, something we can use against them.” A full-length trailer has been unveiled for an indie sci-fi project titled Revolt, from director Joe Miale making his feature debut. The film stars Lee Pace as a US soldier in Africa attempting to fight back against a brutal alien invasion. This kind of seems a bit like a mash-up between District 9 and Transformers, with robot-like alien creatures taking over. Also with Bérénice Marlohe (who was also in the sci-fi Kill Switch, as well as Skyfall and Song to Song), plus Amy Louise Wilson, Alan Santini, and Tom Fairfoot. This has some solid VFX work and it seems like it could be a fun under-the-radar sci-fi film, I just hope it’s better than it looks. This trailer is worth a watch. ›››

  • First International Trailer for Sci-Fi 'Seven Sisters' with Noomi Rapace

First International Trailer for Sci-Fi 'Seven Sisters' with Noomi Rapace

    Seven Sisters Trailer

“We’ve got to help her. We’ve got to go out there!” The first full trailer has debuted for a sci-fi thriller titled Seven Sisters, also going by the name What Happened to Monday?. The film is set in the near future when governments have enacted a One-Child Policy, but a family of seven sisters outwits the strict societal policy by existing in secrecy. Noomi Rapace plays all seven sisters, each with a different identity, and each named for the day of the week – Monday, Tuesday, etc. They go out one-by-one each day pretending they’re the same person, and everything seems to be going fine until one day Monday doesn’t come home. The cast includes Willem Dafoe, Glenn Close, Robert Wagner, Marwan Kenzari, and Pål Sverre Hagen. This actually looks damn good, with some cool sci-fi elements/ideas in it and an original story that takes the dual-performance concept to a whole new level – with seven performances by one actor in one film. I’m in. ›››

  • Hayden Christensen in First Trailer for 'Numb, at the Edge of the End'

Hayden Christensen in First Trailer for 'Numb, at the Edge of the End'

Numb, at the Edge of the End Trailer

“A lot of people think that the world is coming to an end. I don’t think it… I know it.” An official trailer has arrived online for a pre-apocalyptic, action, sci-fi movie titled Numb, at the Edge of the End. This stars Hayden Christensen, who hasn’t appeared in much since Star Wars, as a war veteran with PTSD who perceives that the end of the world is coming. It’s kind of hard to figure out what exactly this is about – it seems like an odd mix of genres and post-apocalyptic tropes, with a gang of weirdos and a bearded prophet and VR goggles. I actually think Harvey Keitel looks pretty damn cool with that big white beard. The cast also includes Marco Leonardi, Justin Kelly, Liz Solari, Rafael Spregelburd, and Raymond E. Lee. This doesn’t look good, but I will admit I’m curious to see more. Maybe there’s something to it? Take a look. ›››

See the Trailer for WB-Approved 'Harry Potter' Fan Film on Voldemort

    Voldemort Fan Film

“I’m still smelling dark magic here…” This looks very cool! There’s a small group of die-hard fans currently working on a Harry Potter fan film that is about the young years of Voldemort, or Tom Marvolo Riddle, and how he became so evil. The project is titled Voldemort: Origins of the Heir, and it is still being finished, but they’ve released a teaser trailer and it looks damn good. This was originally seeking funding on Kickstarter until Warner Bros shut it down. But they have since announced that they have gained approval to continue. From Polygon: “We had a private and confidential discussion with Warner Bros who contacted us during the period of the crowdfunding campaign. The only thing we can say is that they let us proceed with the film, in a non profit way, obviously.” That’s a relief to hear. Looking forward to seeing the final film. ›››

    Unforgiven Re-Release Trailer

“We all have it coming, kid.” Any big fans of this film out there? Clint Eastwood’s Best Picture-winning classic western Unforgiven is being re-released with a brand new, restored 4K print. Eastwood was just at the Cannes Film Festival last month, presenting the restored version of film in the Cannes Classics section and talking at a masterclass seminar during the festival. Unforgiven “summarizes everything I feel about the Western,” director/star Clint Eastwood told the LA Times. The film features Eastwood as Bill Munny, with Morgan Freeman, Gene Hackman, Richard Harris, Jaimz Woolvett, Saul Rubinek, Frances Fisher, Anna Levine, David Mucci, and Rob Campbell. It was first released in 1992. Hopefully this 4K version will end up in US theaters after first playing in France this summer. Watch the official trailer below. ›››

  • Official Trailer for 'Night School' Doc About Adults in School in Indiana

Official Trailer for 'Night School' Doc About Adults in School in Indiana

    Night School Doc Trailer

“Here I am still trying to get my life together…” Oscilloscope Labs has debuted a trailer for Andrew Cohn’s documentary Night School, about struggling adults in Indianapolis, Indiana who have decided to get their high school diploma by attending night school. The doc follows three different adults, profiling their lives and choice to return to school, as well as their struggles and daily challenges. This seems like a powerful film about the will to succeed and the belief that education can change the world. This also goes nicely with a few other recent docs about education in troubled areas, including Step and For Ahkeem. We also just featured a trailer for another school doc titled School Life, about teachers. This looks like it’s definitely worth a watch. ›››

  • Second Trailer for Dark Comedy 'Beatriz at Dinner' with Salma Hayek

Second Trailer for Dark Comedy 'Beatriz at Dinner' with Salma Hayek

    Beatriz at Dinner Trailer

“She was invited, but she was not welcome.” That’s a creative tagline. Roadside Attractions has debuted a second trailer for the rebellious indie comedy Beatriz at Dinner, which premiered at the Sundance Film Festival earlier this year. The first trailer is longer and sets up more of the story, but this one is still just as feisty even at only 60 seconds. Salma Hayek stars as a woman from a small town in Mexico now working as a health practitioner in Los Angeles, who accompanies a friend to a dinner party. Hosted by a billionaire, played by John Lithgow, she goes to town and argues with them about all of their insane bullshit. The cast includes Connie Britton, Chloë Sevigny, Amy Landecker, Jay Duplass and David Warshofsky. I cannot wait to see this, looks like my kind of film. I’m excited to see Hayek take on all these heartless idiots. ›››

  • Review: Patty Jenkins' 'Wonder Woman' Embodies Power and Grace

Review: Patty Jenkins' 'Wonder Woman' Embodies Power and Grace

    Wonder Woman Review

Created by William Moulton Marston and Harry G. Peter, Wonder Woman first appeared in 1941’s All Star Comics #8 published by DC. Marston, a Tufts University psychology professor, drew inspiration for the superhero demigoddess from early feminists like Ethel Byrne and Margaret Sanger, who founded the American Birth Control League, which later became the Planned Parenthood Federation of America. The physical appearance of the character was influenced by Byrne’s daughter, Olive, who was Marston’s research assistant before becoming romantically involved with the polyamorous professor and his wife.* For more than 75 years since her introduction, Wonder Woman has been an enduring symbol of strength and equality. ›››

  • Another Groovy New Trailer for Edgar Wright's Excellent 'Baby Driver'

Another Groovy New Trailer for Edgar Wright's Excellent 'Baby Driver'

    Baby Driver Trailer

“It uses music the way the rest of us use air.” Nice pull quote from a review. Sony has dropped in two more new trailers for Edgar Wright’s latest, an adrenaline-filled action film called Baby Driver, about a skilled getaway driver who listens to music non-stop. We posted a car stunt behind-the-scenes featurette earlier this week, and here’s another new trailer to go along with it. Ansel Elgort stars as a getaway driver named Baby who drives to music, and the movie is said to be set entirely to music with an energetic soundtrack. He gets coerced into working on a heist doomed to fail. The full cast includes Kevin Spacey, Lily James, Jon Bernthal, Eiza González, with Jon Hamm and Jamie Foxx. I don’t really need to say anything else, I am 100% sold on this movie already, just waiting to see it. And I hope it’s the same for all of you, too. Enjoy. ›››
