First Teaser Trailer for Sequel 'Super Troopers 2' Hitting Theaters 4/20

    Super Troopers 2 Trailer

“Seriously, cut the crap guys!” The boys are back! Fox Searchlight has released an official teaser trailer for the long-awaited sequel Super Troopers 2, hitting theaters next spring some 17 years after the first movie became a huge hit. This ultimate stoner comedy picks up where the first one left off and follows the Super Troopers who are tasked with establishing a Highway Patrol station in a border area between the US and Canada. Pretty much everyone is back: Jay Chandrasekhar, Kevin Heffernan, Steve Lemme, Paul Soter, Erik Stolhanske, Brian Cox, Lynda Carter, and Marisa Coughlan. The newcomers include Emmanuelle Chriqui, Rob Lowe, Tyler Labine, Will Sasso, and Hayes MacArthur. This actually looks like it’s going to be fun, just what the doctor ordered. Seems like they’re pushing the comedy forward. ›››

Tom Hughes Stars in First Trailer for Futuristic Sci-Fi Drama 'Realive'

    Realive Trailer

“This is a giant step in the history of medicine.” SyFy has unveiled an official trailer for an indie sci-fi film titled Realive, set in the future. The played at various genre/fantasy film festivals around Europe last year, but is just now arriving in the US. Realive is about a man who decides to be cryogenically frozen, and is awoken 60 years later in the year 2084. He is the first person to be revived in history, and emerges into a “startling” future. Despite his attempts to escape the past, it still catches up with him. Tom Hughes stars Marc Jarvis, and the full cast includes Charlotte Le Bon, Oona Chaplin, Barry Ward, Julio Perillán, Rafael Cebrián, Bruno Sevilla, and Daniel Horvath. This does look intriguing, I’m very curious to see what ideas they’ll address in the future and how things have changed in big ways and small. Check this out. ›››

Watch: Heist Movie Meta-Spoof Short 'The Heist' Will Make You Laugh

    The Heist Short Film

“You’re gonna need guys as crazy as you are.” Time for a fun short to wrap up the week. The Heist is a meta-spoof comedy short mocking the heist movie trope of “assembling the team”. Made by filmmaker Luke Harris, they wanted to poke fun at this trope and other cliches from Hollywood, so they whipped up this short. It’s a direct reference to the scene in Steven Soderbergh’s Oceans 11 (one of my favorite heist movies) where they first meet up with Reuben and tell him about their plan. It’s short (only 4 minutes) and lives up to the promise of delivering some top notch spoofery. Of course, it’s also perfectly timed as Soderbergh has yet another heist movie currently in theaters – Logan Lucky (which I highly recommend seeing). Have fun. ›››

First Teaser Trailer for 'Five Fingers for Marseilles' Premiering at TIFF

    Five Fingers for Marseilles Trailer

“You’ve been sent to judge me.” This looks like it could be a big breakout at the Toronto Film Festival this year. A teaser trailer has debuted for the film Five Fingers for Marseilles, a “neo-western” set in South Africa. The story follows a young boy whose life is changed forever when he kills two corrupt policemen in a South African shanty town. Two decades later, he finally heads home but his return brings out his enemies who go after him and all of his friends. Starring Vuyo Dabula, Hamilton Dhlamini, Zethu Dlomo, Kenneth Nkosi, Mduduzi Mabaso, Aubrey Poolo, Lizwi Vilakazi, Warren Masemola, Anthony Oseyemi, Brendon Daniels, and Jerry Mofokeng. The two filmmakers spent 7 years researching and developing this, “including 5,000 miles of cross-country travel, development, and filming amidst the erratic winter weather of the Eastern Cape.” From the looks of it, this film might just be as awesome as it sounds. ›››

  • Another International Trailer for Tennis Match Film 'Borg/McEnroe'

Another International Trailer for Tennis Match Film 'Borg/McEnroe'

    Borg/McEnroe Trailer

“It’s the perfect rivalry…” Bring on the outstanding tennis movies. A second official international trailer for the film Borg/McEnroe (also just titled simply Borg) has been revealed thanks to Little White Lies. The film recreates the iconic 1980 Wimbledon match between tennis champs and rivals Björn Borg and John McEnroe. Shia LaBeouf plays John McEnroe, and Swedish actor Sverrir Gudnason plays Björn Borg; also starring Stellan Skarsgård, Tuva Novotny, and David Bamber. This continues to look better than expected (see the first full trailer), and I’m excited to get a chance to see this soon. It will premiere at the Toronto Film Festival and hit theaters in Europe this fall, but still needs a US release. Hopefully it will get a date soon. I love how intense this looks, I’m totally in for it, seems like it might surprise us all. Take a look. ›››

  • First Trailer for Alien Abduction Indie Horror Film 'Welcome to Willits'

First Trailer for Alien Abduction Indie Horror Film 'Welcome to Willits'

    Welcome to Willits Trailer

“I ain’t sure what they want, but they ain’t nice.” IFC Midnight has unveiled an official trailer for a sci-fi horror film titled Welcome to Willits, which played at various genre film festivals all last year. Set in the woods of Northern California in an off-the-grid town called Willits, a “haven for marijuana growers, meth addicts, and conspiracy theorists”, the story is about a group of teens who get mixed up with a local pot farmer. And then the aliens show up and all hell breaks loose. This is described as a “no-holds-barred pileup of carnage, twisted comedy, and pure crazy.” Let’s hope all of that is true. Starring Bill Sage, Rory Culkin, Anastasia Baranova, Garrett Clayton, and surprisingly enough, Dolph Lundgren. I don’t think I’ve seen a film that mixes drugs and aliens in this way, can’t say it’s going to be a good combination. Watch out. ›››

New Trailer for Restored Re-Release of James Ivory's 'Heat and Dust'

    Heat and Dust Trailer

“If it gets too boring, I’ll run away.” Cohen Media Group has debuted an official trailer for the upcoming re-release of the classic romantic adventure Heat and Dust, directed by James Ivory, that was originally released in 1983. Set in India in the 1920s, the story looks back at the life of an English woman named Olivia who becomes fascinated by India and enamored by the local ruler, a nawab who combines British distinction with Indian pomp and ruthlessness. The film’s international cast stars Greta Scacchi, Shashi Kapoor, Julie Christie, Christopher Cazenove, Julian Glover, Susan Fleetwood, Patrick Godfrey, and Jennifer Kendal. This is a brand new, 4K restoration meaning it will look and sound better than ever. I have not seen this film myself, but I have heard it’s certainly worth watching. For now, check out the trailer. ›››

  • Official Trailer for Richard Linklater's 'Last Flag Flying' About Veterans

Official Trailer for Richard Linklater's 'Last Flag Flying' About Veterans

    Last Flag Flying Trailer

“They represent a dark period in my life.” Amazon Studios has released the first official trailer for Richard Linklater’s Last Flag Flying, a drama about war veterans set in 2003. This seems like an odd choice for Linklater’s next film, but as always, I trust him since he’s a very versatile filmmaker. The film is about three buddies, a former Navy Corps medic, an ex-Marine, and a Reverend, who reconnect on a trip for a funeral. They catch up on life while burying the son of the medic, a young Marine who was killed in the Iraq War. Starring Steve Carrell, Bryan Cranston, Laurence Fishburne, Yul Vazquez, and Cicely Tyson. This looks charming and there’s some nice Linklater natural comedy that seems to make the camaraderie feel more authentic. This will premiere at the New York Film Festival this fall as the big Opening Night film. ›››

  • Amy Ryan in First Trailer for Indie Film 'Abundant Acreage Available'

Amy Ryan in First Trailer for Indie Film 'Abundant Acreage Available'

    Abundant Acreage Available Trailer

“This is our place – right here, right now.” Gravitas Ventures has revealed an official trailer for the indie drama titled Abundant Acreage Available, which won the Best Screenplay award at the Tribeca Film Festival earlier this year. The film stars Amy Ryan and Terry Kinney as middle-aged brother and sister, who have just finished burying their father in a field on the fifty acre tobacco farm in North Carolina that their family owns. Trouble brews when three brothers, whose family farmed the land for generations, return after 50 years. The cast includes Max Gail, Steve Coulter, and Francis Guinan. I have been a big fan of Amy Ryan ever since Gone Baby Gone, so I’m always interested to watch anything she’s in, especially if she has a lead role. This looks damn good, and it’s easy to see the tough choices the script attempts to address. ›››
