Another 'Blade Runner' Promo Prequel Short '2048: Nowhere To Run'

2048: Nowhere To Run Short Film

“Don’t like my offer, you’re welcome to try somewhere else.” Warner Bros has unveiled another new promo short film for Blade Runner 2049, a prequel this time set one year before the new movie takes place. A few weeks ago, they unveiled a short titled “2036: Nexus Dawn” featuring Jared Leto’s character Niander Wallace talking about manufacturing replicants again. This next new short film is titled “2048: Nowhere To Run” and features Dave Bautista as an outlaw replicant named Sapper. He goes out into the streets of Los Angeles 2048 to sell some replicant leeches, but he loses control when he sees a mother and her child being threatened. I love these short film promos, they’re exciting and the perfect way to bring us all back to this world. In the intro, Denis Villeneuve mentions there’s three of these short films, so there’s one more to come after this one. And only a few more weeks left until this hits theaters. For now – watch below & enjoy. ›››

  • Trailer for Ridley Scott's 70's Crime Film 'All the Money in the World'

Trailer for Ridley Scott's 70's Crime Film 'All the Money in the World'

All the Money in the World Trailer

“We look like you, but we’re not like you. It’s like we’re from another planet.” Sony Pictures has debuted the first official trailer for Ridley Scott’s All the Money in the World, a crime thriller set in the 1970s about a massive kidnapping plot arranged by a left-wing paramilitary organization in Italy. With this now scheduled to open in December, it means (believe it or not!) we’re getting two new Ridley Scott movies this year, the other being Alien: Covenant. All the Money in the World stars Mark Wahlberg, Kevin Spacey, Michelle Williams, Timothy Hutton, Charlie Plummer, Andrew Buchan, Olivia Grant, Teresa Mahoney, Romain Duris, and Charlie Shotwell. Ridley Scott always pulls together some of the best casts. This looks so damn good, a nice change from his recent sci-fi, and I dig the setting in Italy in the 70s. ›››

  • Trailer for Array's Documentary 'Teach Us All' on Educational Equality

Trailer for Array's Documentary 'Teach Us All' on Educational Equality

    Teach Us All Trailer

“It was never intended that we would be treated as equals…” Array + Netflix have debuted an official trailer for a new film titled Teach Us All, a documentary that is also a social justice campaign on educational inequality. The film “examines the U.S. education system from the historic Little Rock Crisis to present day disparities in access that are culminating into a re-segregation of schools across the nation.” This seems like a very powerful, very important documentary for our times that goes hand-in-hand with Ava DuVernay’s 13th as an examination of racism and oppression that still exists in America. It’s also another documentary this year about education and schools, along with School Life and Night School. This is being released by DuVernay’s distribution company Array, which means it’s a great film that you definitely don’t want to miss. ›››

  • Full Trailer for 'Our Souls at Night' with Robert Redford & Jane Fonda

Full Trailer for 'Our Souls at Night' with Robert Redford & Jane Fonda

    Our Souls at Night Trailer

“I think I could sleep again if there was somebody next to me, you know, someone nice.” Netflix has just debuted a new full-length trailer for Ritesh Batra’s film Our Souls at Night, a romantic drama starring Robert Redford and Jane Fonda, who have appeared together four times in films, starting with Barefoot in the Park over fifty years ago. The story is about two older people who are neighbors in a small town in Colorado, but had little contact. They finally connect and romance sparks, as they try to make the most of the rest of their time. In addition to Redford and Fonda, this stars Bruce Dern, Matthias Schoenaerts, Judy Greer and Iain Armitage. This film is as sweet as grandma’s apple pie, and very charming, but is very lightweight and doesn’t offer much below the surface. At least it’s adorable to see them together again. ›››

Venice 2017: My Favorite Films of the Festival + A Final Venezia Recap

    Venice Film Festival

We’re in the thick of the fall movie season now, with the Toronto Film Festival finishing up this weekend. I attended my first Venice Film Festival this year (read about my experience at the fest) and saw a total of 26 films across 10 days. There are still many scenes floating through my mind, many great moments from these films. To wrap up my coverage of Venice, let’s recap my favorite films of the festival as well as my two of favorite performances. I only had a chance to see three documentaries (Human Flow, Jim & Andy, The Rape of Recy Taylor) this year, so I won’t be singling out one of them. Instead, I’ll be talking about my two favorite films and a few others that stood out. As always, there’s plenty to discuss. Let’s begin, shall we? ›››

  • Interview: Darren Aronofsky Talks 'Mother!', Cinema, Batman & More

Interview: Darren Aronofsky Talks 'Mother!', Cinema, Batman & More

    Darren Aronofsky

“I tell stories. All I can ever do is express how I’m feeling at a moment.” In theaters this week is the new film from acclaimed filmmaker Darren Aronofsky, a very provocative and intense feature titled mother!. The film stars Jennifer Lawrence and Javier Bardem as a couple living in a secluded home, trying to fix it up and make it nice until one day uninvited guests show up. Mother! premiered at the Venice and Toronto Film Festivals, and the reviews have been all over the map. I loved the film (here’s my review), because I understood exactly what he was doing. This is Aronofsky’s outburst of anger about the state of the world, and the way we abuse and mistreat this beautiful planet we live on. While at the Venice Film Festival, I met with Darren briefly for a chat about mother!, and the state of the world – he’s always fascinating to talk with. ›››

  • Charming Full-Length Trailer for Pixar's Day of the Dead Musical 'Coco'

Charming Full-Length Trailer for Pixar's Day of the Dead Musical 'Coco'

    Pixar's Coco Trailer

“None of them understand me… I’m supposed to play music!” Yay! Disney-Pixar have unveiled a full-length official trailer for Pixar’s Coco, the first musical and next animated movie from the beloved animation studio. The story involves a young boy named Miguel who gets lost in the world of the dead while searching for his great-great grandfather. The voices include newcomer Anthony Gonzalez playing Miguel, along with Benjamin Bratt, Gael Garcia Bernal, and Renee Victor. This certainly looks like Pixar’s most colorful movie yet, my goodness. We also finally get a glimpse of the dead world and all the various skeleton characters he meets. This looks like it’s going to be fun and emotional and a very potent reminder of the love families have. Though we still haven’t actually heard a real song from the movie yet, I’m totally sold anyway. ›››

  • Jackie Chan Stars in First Trailer for Chinese Sci-Fi Film 'Bleeding Steel'

Jackie Chan Stars in First Trailer for Chinese Sci-Fi Film 'Bleeding Steel'

    Bleeding Steel Trailer

“Whatever purpose you have, this is worse than you imagine.” A new trailer has debuted for a sci-fi action film from China titled Bleeding Steel, which actually stars Jackie Chan as a hardened special forces agent protecting a young woman. The sci-fi element seems to involve a special metallic heart implanted in Chan’s character, as far as I can tell. Which is, I guess, where the “Bleeding Steel” title comes from. The cast includes Tess Haubrich, Callan Mulvey, and Damien Garvey. This is one of those totally unbelievably wacky Chinese action movies that has almost everything thrown into it – including weird, hooded sci-fi-ish characters. There’s even a fight on top of the Sydney Opera House. Why? I have no idea. Take a look below. ›››

Learn the Story of Touko Laaksonen in Trailer for 'Tom of Finland' Film

    Tom of Finland Doc Trailer

“Conquer America for me.” Kino Lorber has debuted an official trailer for the Finnish indie drama Tom of Finland, a fictional feature film profile of the Finnish man who became known as “Tom of Finland”. After returning home from WWII, Touko Laaksonen fled to America to escape homosexual persecution. There he established himself as one of the most influential and celebrated figures of 20th century gay culture. “Tom of Finland” drew erotic art of gay men, most often wearing leather outfits, which became a symbol of gay culture at the time. Pekka Strang plays “Tom of Finland”, with a cast including Lauri Tilkanen, Jessica Grabowsky, Werner Daehn, and Kari Hietalahti. This premiered at the Tribeca Film Festival earlier this year, and played at numerous other film festivals. It looks like it has a strong lead performance at least. ›››

  • Review: 'Loving Vincent' is a Stunningly Gorgeous Tribute to Van Gogh

Review: 'Loving Vincent' is a Stunningly Gorgeous Tribute to Van Gogh

    Loving Vincent Review

“The truth is, we cannot speak other than by our paintings.” My goodness this film is gorgeous. Loving Vincent is a hand-painted, animated, cinematic tribute to the tormented life and artistic legacy of famed Dutch artist Vincent van Gogh. Beyond telling his story (through flashbacks and interviews with people who knew him), the film is painted to look like exactly his paintings. It’s one of the most beautiful films I’ve ever seen. There were times I got completely lost staring at the art, and totally stopped listening to anything anyone was saying. In terms of animation, it’s groundbreaking not just because of technique, but because the artist’s own style is used perfectly to tell a story about the artist’s life. Watch this film for the art alone. ›››
