Official Trailer for Brazilian Western 'O Matador' From Marcelo Galvão

    O Matador Trailer

“When you’re born to kill, you have to have an empty mind.” Netflix has unveiled an official trailer for a Brazilian western titled O Matador, telling the story of Cabeleira, a feared killer living in the countryside of Pernambuco State in the 1940’s. Diogo Morgado stars as Cabeleira, a gunman who goes looking for his missing mentor but ends up working for a ruthless French land baron as a hired assassin. The cast includes Maria de Medeiros, Will Roberts, Etienne Chicot, Phil Miler, Marat Descartes, Mel Lisboa, and Paulo Gorgulho. The trailer has another English title, simply just The Killer, but I like O Matador better. This definitely seems like a gritty western, with plenty of violence and slick cinematography. First Trailer for Quirky Romantic Comedy Film 'The Truth About Lies'

    The Truth About Lies Trailer

“So you lied to me about everything?” Blue Fox Entertainment has debuted the first official trailer for an indie romantic comedy titled The Truth About Lies, made by writer/director Phil Allocco. This quirky comedy is about a guy who starts coming up with a series of lies in order to impress a girl. Fairly simple premise. Fran Kranz stars and Gilby Smalls, and the girl he falls for is played by Odette Annable, who you’ll recognize from Cloverfield or The Unborn. The cast includes Colleen Camp, Mary Elizabeth Ellis, Chris Diamantopoulos, Oakes Fegley, and Laura Kightlinger. This doesn’t look that unique, almost like every other quirky indie romantic comedy. And I’m pretty sure he’s going to get the girl in the end, too. ›››

    Where Is It Short Film

“Oh, that’s okay, it came with the house anyway, so… no big deal, I guess!” We’re almost into October, which means it’s just about time for the horror season. To kick things off (a bit early) we’re sharing this fun, freaky horror short film titled Where Is It, from co-directors Zak White and Todd Spence. This clever little horror short is about two friends who connect up over FaceTime for a chat. One of them just returned home from a trip, and the other watched her house while she was away. She accidentally broke an old mirror that was on the wall, neither thinks much of it. But apparently it has some importance to someone in the house. ›››

Mireille Enos & Sam Shepard in First Trailer for Thriller 'Never Here'

    Never Here Trailer

“Happens all the time in my business… People just seep, vanish.” Vertical Entertainment has debuted the first trailer for a dark thriller titled Never Here, formerly You Were Never Here; not to be confused with Lynn Ramsay’s You Were Never Really Here (which is a fantastic film). From director Camille Thoman, the film is about an installation artist who follows and photographs strangers for her art, until disturbing events lead her to suspect that someone out there is watching her. Mireille Enos stars, along with the late, great Sam Shepard, plus Goran Visnjic, Vincent Piazza, Nina Arianda, Ana Nogueira. One of the quotes describes it as a “haunting Lynchian mystery” which seems quite accurate. This looks strange and confusing. ›››

Exciting New Behind-the-Scenes Preview for Marvel's 'Thor: Ragnarok'

    Thor: Ragnarok Trailer

“The way that I’ve approached this is to rebuild it in a new way.” With a few months left to go, Marvel has released a new behind-the-scenes preview for Taika Waititi’s Thor: Ragnarok, the latest Thor movie continuing the Marvel Cinematic Universe. This featurette shows us some making-of footage in addition to some interviews and clips from the movie. We’ve already seen two previous trailers, and an international one teasing a cameo, which should be enough to get you ready for this. Chris Hemsworth is back as Thor, with a kick ass cast: Cate Blanchett as Hela, Jeff Goldblum as the Grandmaster, Tessa Thompson as Valkyrie, Karl Urban as Skurge, plus all of the others from Asgard including Tom Hiddleston as Loki, Idris Elba as Heimdall, and Jaimie Alexander. Totally adore Taika Waititi so much, the best. Have fun. ›››

Owen Wilson & Ed Helms in New Trailer for 'Father Figures' Comedy

    Father Figures Trailer

“Operation Who’s-Your-Daddy – the top mission is finding dad.” Warner Bros has debuted a new trailer for the comedy titled Father Figures, formerly known Bastards, starring Owen Wilson and Ed Helms as fraternal twin brothers who go on a search for their father when their mother reveals she doesn’t know who he really is. This was actually set to be released in January, but the studio pulled it and delayed it all the way until Christmas this year, giving it a new title in the meantime. Unfortunately it still doesn’t look any better. Also starring Katie Aselton, J.K. Simmons, Terry Bradshaw, Glenn Close, Ving Rhames, Ryan Cartwright, Katt Williams, Retta and Bill Irwin. Not really worth a watch, but have a look if you wish. ›››

    The Bachelors Trailer

“The only way you’re going to feel better is if we figure out some way for you to let her go…” Freestyle Media has unveiled the first trailer for The Bachelors, an indie dramedy directed by Kurt Voelker that first premiered at the Los Angeles Film Festival. The film is about a man, played by J.K. Simmons, who takes his teenage son and moves into the big city after his wife dies. As they each begin to adjust to their new life and seek ways to heal their wounds, they both find comfort in newfound romance. The impressive cast includes Julie Delpy, Josh Wiggins, Kevin Dunn, and Odeya Rush. This looks charming and heartfelt, and full of some fun scenes as well as touching moments. As usual for American indies, but I’m still curious. ›››

  • Gary Oldman Commands as Churchill in Second 'Darkest Hour' Trailer

Gary Oldman Commands as Churchill in Second 'Darkest Hour' Trailer

    Darkest Hour

“You have the full weight of the world on your shoulders.” Focus Features has debuted the second trailer for Joe Wright’s Darkest Hour, the second film this year about Winston Churchill (the other one is called Churchill starring Brian Cox). This film already played at the Telluride and Toronto Film Festivals to some rave reviews, especially for the lead performance by Gary Oldman under heavy prosthetic as Winston Churchill. The focus in this film is on Churchill’s first few days as Prime Minister, deciding whether or not to agree to a peace treaty with Nazi Germany or fight back and rally the troops waiting in Dunkirk. The cast includes Lily James, Ben Mendelsohn, Stephen Dillane, Kristin Scott Thomas, Charley Palmer Rothwell, Ronald Pickup, Nicholas Jones, Hannah Steele, and Jeremy Child. This is a slick trailer that ratchets up the intensity and shows how powerful Oldman is as Churchill. I still can’t wait to see this. ›››

  • Teaser Trailer for Alex Garland's 'Annihilation' with Natalie Portman

Teaser Trailer for Alex Garland's 'Annihilation' with Natalie Portman

    Annihilation Teaser Trailer

“I need to know what’s inside…” Yes! Finally! Paramount has unveiled the first teaser trailer for the latest sci-fi film from Alex Garland (of Ex Machina), who is adapting from Jeff VanderMeer’s series of novels. Annihilation stars Natalie Portman as a biologist who travels with a group into a special place known as “Area X” where the laws of nature don’t apply. As you’ll see in this teaser, there are some very weird, wacky, WTF things in this mysterious place. And I can’t wait to find out what it all means. Also starring Jennifer Jason Leigh, Gina Rodriguez, Tessa Thompson, Tuva Novotny, and Oscar Isaac. This looks totally awesome, twisted, weird, and potentially mind-blowing (like Arrival). It’s even more exciting coming from Alex Garland, because he’s going to push these sci-fi concepts are far as they can go. I’m so in for this movie. ›››

See Shinichirō Watanabe's Short Film 'Blade Runner: Black Out 2022'

    Blade Runner: Black Out 2022

“All records on the ground will be erased.” Ready for more Blade Runner prequel action? Warner Bros has unveiled the final prequel short film for Blade Runner 2049, this one an anime directed by acclaimed Japanese filmmaker Shinichirō Watanabe (of Samurai Champloo and Cowboy Bebop). Blade Runner: Black Out 2022 takes place between the first and second short films, in the year 2022, telling the story of when an EMP blast knocked out power to cities around the world causing the anti-Replicant movement, which lead to their prohibition, before Niander Wallace eventually brought them back. This short very much reminds me of the Animatrix shorts, specifically “The Second Renaissance” Parts I & II which tell a much bigger story about what is going on in the world. This will definitely get you in the mood for the full movie. ›››
