Barry Keoghan Woos in Second Trailer for 'The Killing of a Sacred Deer'

The Killing of a Sacred Deer Trailer

“You do realize, Stephen, we’re in this situation because of you.” Hahahah what a tricky little trailer. A24 has revealed a new trailer for The Killing of a Sacred Deer, the latest film from Yorgos Lanthimos (Dogtooth, Alps, The Lobster) that will get under your skin. This devious thriller is about a family tormented by a teenage boy. You have to see it and experience it to figure out what’s going on (this trailer does reveal a big plot point). The cast features Nicole Kidman, Colin Farrell, Alicia Silverstone, Raffey Cassidy, Bill Camp, Sunny Suljic, and Barry Keoghan (he’s also the kid from the boat in Nolan’s Dunkirk). This trailer is all about Keoghan wooing the daughter in the family, and it’s so sneaky and unsettling. Jeremy just saw this film at Fantastic Fest and wrote a glowing review, calling it Lanthimos’ “best work to date.” Enjoy. ›››

Second Trailer for Armando Iannucci's New Satire 'The Death of Stalin'

    The Death of Stalin Trailer

“Nobody’s gonna get killed, I promise you!” Entertainment One in the UK has unveiled the second official trailer for Armando Iannucci’s latest political satire, The Death of Stalin. This premiered at the Toronto Film Festival earlier this month to some rave reviews, and opens in cinemas in the UK in October, however it still doesn’t have a US release date yet. Based on Fabien Nury’s graphic novel, the film is about Russian dictator Joseph Stalin’s last days and the disorganized chaos of the regime after his death in 1953 and 30 years of iron-fisted rule. Adrian McLoughlin plays Stalin, with an ensemble cast of characters including Rupert Friend, Steve Buscemi, Olga Kurylenko, Jason Isaacs, Andrea Riseborough, Jeffrey Tambor, Paddy Considine, Michael Palin, and Jonathan Aris. This looks great, looking forward to it. ›››

    Acts of Vengeance Trailer

“I had been punishing the wrong person…” Saban Films has debuted an official trailer for an action thriller titled Acts of Vengeance (originally titled Stoic), about a lawyer who goes for revenge after his wife and daughter are killed. Yes, we’ve heard that exact emotional plot description 100 times before, so here’s yet another vengeance movie for those who want it. Starring Antonio Banderas as Frank Valera, with a cast including Cristina Serafini as his wife, plus Karl Urban, David Sakurai, Paz Vega, Robert Forster, Lillian Blankenship, and Clint Dyer. This film is obviously all about the action, and the act of getting vengeance (hence the title) though I doubt it has much more to offer. Check it out below if you’re interested. ›››

Lovely Trailer for 'Cielo' Documentary Examining the Skies Above Chile

    Cielo Documentary Trailer

“For me, the sky is astrophysics… It’s the scientific explanation for the wanderings of our imagination beyond the screen of our sky.” Oh my, this looks gorgeous. An official trailer has debuted for a documentary film titled Cielo, an examination of the skies and “heavens” above Chile. Made by Alison McAlpine, the film focuses on a few observatories and telescopes located in Chile, where the sky “is more urgent than the land.” As a huge fan of stars and the universe beyond our planet, I’m immediately attracted to this film and can’t wait to see the footage. For more info on the technical details and how they got all the footage, visit the official website. This is premiering at the New York Film Festival this weekend, and will probably show at a few other festivals before hitting cinemas. I feel like this film demands to be seen on a giant screen. Official Trailer for 'The Old Dark House' Restoration Showing at NYFF

    The Old Dark House Trailer

“Here we are, six people sitting around.” Cohen Media Group has released an official trailer for a restored version of the 1932 comedy horror classic The Old Dark House, directed by filmmaker James Whale (of the original horror classics Frankenstein and The Invisible Man). The new restoration is premiering at the New York Film Festival this weekend, and will hit a few theaters as well throughout October. The story is about a group of five travelers who seek shelter in a “foreboding mansion” in Wales that belongs to the extremely strange Femm family. This get weird and wacky as the night goes on and drinking begins. The Old Dark House features Boris Karloff, Melvyn Douglas, Charles Laughton, Ernest Thesiger, Lillian Bond, and Gloria Stuart. This seems like a good classic film to (re)visit during horror season next month. ›››

    Swing Away Trailer

“See the shot in your head, take a deep breath, and swing away…” Freestyle Media has revealed the new trailer for indie comedy Swing Away, about a professional golfer who decides to go home to Greece to get away from all the public attention. Shannon Elizabeth stars as Zoe Papadopoulos, who heads back to her grandparents’ village in Greece where she ends up mentoring a 10-year-old girl who wants to be the next golf sensation. Also starring John O’Hurley, Karl Theobald, Manos Gavras, Renos Haralambidis, Alexandros Mylonas, and Viktoria Miller as Stella. • Fantastic Fest Review: Superb Stephen King Adaptation 'Gerald's Game'

Fantastic Fest Review: Superb Stephen King Adaptation 'Gerald's Game'

    Gerald's Game Review

Sometimes when transferring a novel to a film, the best way to go is a straight, no-frills adaptation. The author has said all that needs to be said on the subject, and the job the filmmaker undertakes is simply bringing that source material to life through visual representation. With so many adaptations of the works of Stephen King already made – and many more just on the horizon – it’s refreshing to see a film based on his works sticking so closely to the book. Enter Gerald’s Game, based on the 1992 novel, directed by Oculus and Hush director Mike Flanagan. A streamlined adaptation, the film hits with surprising intensity and delivers ample amounts of atmosphere and scares. It also boasts a career-best performance from Carla Gugino, who aids in raising Gerald’s Game to the levels of some of the very best Stephen King adaptations. ›››

  • The End is Nigh in First 'Maze Runner: The Death Cure' Teaser Trailer

The End is Nigh in First 'Maze Runner: The Death Cure' Teaser Trailer

Maze Runner: The Death Cure Trailer

“Every maze has an end.” 20th Century Fox has finally unveiled the first teaser trailer for Maze Runner: The Death Cure, the third and final movie in the sci-fi series. This series had a small, humble beginning with a movie about a giant maze, then blew up into something much bigger with the second movie, The Scorch Trials, released in 2015. It definitely seems to be following in the footsteps of The Hunger Games, but there’s an edge to it that makes it stand out in its own way. Dylan O’Brien stars as Thomas, and the full cast includes Kaya Scodelario, Walton Goggins, Nathalie Emmanuel, Katherine McNamara, Thomas Brodie-Sangster, Rosa Salazar, Giancarlo Esposito, Patricia Clarkson, Barry Pepper, Ki Hong Lee, and Jacob Lofland. My first impression is that this actually looks pretty damn cool. Enjoy. ›››

  • Badass New UK Trailer for Gritty Japanese Action Thriller Film 'Re:Born'

Badass New UK Trailer for Gritty Japanese Action Thriller Film 'Re:Born'

    Re:Born Trailer

“If you want my blood… come and get it!” Eureka Entertainment has debuted a new official UK trailer for a Japanese action thriller titled Re:Born, which premiered at a few genre film festivals last year. Re:Born features a hand-to-hand fighting technique called “Zero-Range Combat“, originally developed by combat strategist and master fight instructor Yoshitaka Inagawa. The film’s story follows a covert soldier with a mysterious past who decides to once again unleash the “beast inside of him” to stand up for what he cares about. The cast includes Tak Sakaguchi, Yura Kondo, Takumi Saitô, Mariko Shinoda, and Akio Ôtsuka. This trailer has hints at some of the badass action in this film, which looks like a lot of very close-range fighting, including inside a phone booth at one point. I don’t know much about this, but it looks cool. ›››
