Official UK Trailer for 'The Silence of the Lambs' Theatrical Re-Release

The Silence of the Lambs Trailer

“Believe me, you don’t want Hannibal Lecter inside your head.” BFI has debuted a trailer for their restored re-release of the serial killer thriller classic The Silence of the Lambs. First released in early 1991, the movie went on to win Best Picture at the Oscars, as well as Best Actor, Best Actress, Best Director and Best Screenplay. The BFI is re-releasing it as part of their “thriller season” this fall, and will play it in cinemas around the UK. No word on a US re-release, but it doesn’t seem like anything is in the works. The Silence of the Lambs stars Jodie Foster as a young FBI agent who tries to work with the iconic serial killer Hannibal Lecter, played by Anthony Hopkins, to hunt and find a murderer named Buffalo Bill. The cast includes Scott Glenn, Anthony Heald, Kasi Lemmons, and Frankie Faison. This film was such a huge success it inspired 3 sequels, not to mention a fascination with serial killers. Definitely worth seeing in the cinema. ›››

  • First Teaser Trailers for British Horror 'Ghost Stories' About a Skeptic

First Teaser Trailers for British Horror 'Ghost Stories' About a Skeptic

    Ghost Stories Trailer

“You don’t believe, do ya?” IFC has unveiled three teaser trailers for a new ghost horror movie titled Ghost Stories, which already premiered at the London Film Festival earlier this month. It’s due out in 2018 but doesn’t have an exact date yet. Based on the long-running British horror stage show created by English magician Andy Nyman, the film is about a psychologist and arch-skeptic named Professor Phillip Goodman who investigates three terrifying hauntings. Andy Nyman plays Goodman, and the rest of the ensemble cast includes Martin Freeman, Alex Lawther, Jill Halfpenny, Paul Whitehouse, Nicholas Burns, Kobna Holdbrook-Smith, Daniel Hill, Derren Brown, and Ryan Oliva. It seems like an anthology film, but it also seems like there is a connection between the three stories. I’m very curious to see this film. ›››

Review: 'Jigsaw' Continues the 'Saw' Franchise With Little Freshness or Creativity

    Jigsaw Movie Review

It doesn’t take much knowledge of the horror genre to realize a final chapter hardly means anything. Just as many franchises that have had a “final chapter” have carried on with gleeful bloodletting as if nothing of finality has ever even occurred. So it’s no surprise the Saw series has returned. Seven years after the series’ apparent conclusion, the games are rigged back up, the unwilling participants are again in imminent peril, and the mysteries surrounding the Jigsaw killer and his legacy are at it once again. While the return of this franchise could have been used to shake things up, though, those traps and the mystery they bring offer little freshness or a sense of the new to the proceedings. Fans of the series will be happy with the franchise’s return, but the Spierig Brothers’ Jigsaw and its latest game won’t be winning over any new contestants. ›››

    A Prayer Before Dawn Trailer

“I’ve got not family, no money, just give me this one chance.” A24 has debuted an intense, badass official trailer for a film titled A Prayer Before Dawn, shot by a French filmmaker in a real Thai prison starring real inmates. This film is about a young English boxer who is thrown into prisons in Thailand, where he fights back and trains to be a competitor in a vicious Muay Thai boxing tournament. Joe Cole stars as Billy Moore, the one white man in this Thai world, apparently based on a true story. The cast includes Vithaya Pansringarm, Panya Yimmumphai, Nicolas Shake, Pornchanok Mabklang, plus the real Billy Moore in a cameo role. This looks frickin’ awesome! I can’t believe I have missed this film until now. And A24’s trailer is exciting, building up the intensity right until the last second. I actually can’t wait to see this. ›››

  • AFF Review: Kooky Sci-Fi Indie Film 'Everything Beautiful is Far Away'

AFF Review: Kooky Sci-Fi Indie Film 'Everything Beautiful is Far Away'

    Everything Beautiful is Far Away

I love stumbling upon quirky indie gems that haven’t been fully discovered yet, but are totally original and skillfully crafted. Everything Beautiful is Far Away is one of these films, which I decided to see on a whim at the American Film Festival, and I’m very glad I took a chance on it. This homemade indie film was filmed entirely at the Algodones Dunes in California, and stars actors Joseph Cross and Julia Garner. While it is technically sci-fi, set in the near future when cities have continued to expand and massive deserts are all that surrounds them, the film’s story is actually more of a metaphor for relationships. It’s very similar thematically to Swiss Army Man, addressing the difficulties of loneliness and of love in our modern world. ›››

AFF Review: Mark Webber's Very Personal Docu-Drama 'Flesh & Blood'

    Flesh & Blood Review

Every once in a while a film comes along that is so honest, and so deeply personal, it might challenge those brave enough to view it to contemplate their own life. Actor/filmmaker Mark Webber has made a new film titled Flesh & Blood, and it’s a docu-drama that discusses his own life story and the immense struggles his family has been through. It’s a very personal film that balances the line between documentary and drama in a way that makes it “hyperrealistic”, pulling viewers even closer to this story and the people in it. It’s crazy impressive how much of himself Mark put into it, while still allowing us a chance to admire the journey and the characters in this particular story. It’s a very raw, heartfelt film with a hint of hope that shines through. ›››

Official Trailer for 'Along for the Ride' Documentary on Dennis Hopper

Along for the Ride Doc Trailer

An official trailer has arrived for a documentary titled Along for the Ride, which premiered at the Venice Film Festival last year. Along for the Ride profiles the life and career of actor Dennis Hopper, who you will recognize from all kinds of different movies over the years. Hopper passed away in 2010, but earned two Oscar nominations over his long career. “Method actor, filmmaker, photographer, fine artist, art collector, and all-American madman.” The doc includes a score by Gemma Thompson of the critically acclaimed band Savages, along with plenty of interviews with his friends and colleagues including Wim Wenders, Dwight Yoakam, David Lynch, Michael Madsen, Dean Stockwell, and many others. “Through the triumph of Easy Rider, the magnificent career suicide of The Last Movie, the overlooked masterpiece Out of the Blue, and a midlife comeback after plenty of booze and brawling, Along for the Ride is a vivacious work of film biography with a freewheeling style that’s only appropriate to its anarchic subject.” Watch the trailer below. ›››
