Watch: 'The Star Wars' Concept Trailer Based on McQuarrie's Early Art

    The Star Wars Trailer

“We never saw that movie. But many of these differences can be seen in the concept art…” Whoa! This is awesome. In honor of the release of the new Star Wars, a group of fans from the DAVE School of VFX have put together a fun concept trailer for “The Star Wars“. Many die-hard fans know that the original script and original concept art for the very first Star Wars movie was very different than the eventual version / universe we did get and all know (and love) today. The video goes on to explain that odd things in the script were visualized in the early concept art Ralph McQuarrie did for George Lucas. And so they tried to make a short teaser trailer for a version of “The Star Wars” as if it really exited and it was created exactly from McQuarrie’s visuals. It’s actually better than you’re expecting, and is definitely worth a quick watch below. ›››

  • Trailer for Indie Sci-Fi Thriller 'Diverge' from Director James Morrison

Trailer for Indie Sci-Fi Thriller 'Diverge' from Director James Morrison

    Diverge Trailer

“This didn’t have to happen. You can stop it…” Gravitas Ventures has released an official trailer for an indie sci-fi post apocalyptic thriller titled Diverge, which has played at a bunch of sci-fi/genre film festivals all over the world the last two years. The film follows a lonely survivor of a deadly virus who is given the chance to reclaim his lost life by stopping the man responsible for the disease. Described as “equal parts science fiction and morality tale, Diverge tells the story of how the choices of one can have dire consequences for all.” It’s apparently much more philosophical and poetic than expected. Starring Ivan Sandomire, Jamie Jackson, Andrew Sensing, with a hypnotic new score by the Blair Brothers. Watch the trailer below. ›››

  • Third & Final Trailer for Train Movie 'The Commuter' with Liam Neeson

Third & Final Trailer for Train Movie 'The Commuter' with Liam Neeson

    The Commuter Trailer

“You’re trying to set me up.” Lionsgate has debuted the third and final trailer for the action-thriller train movie starring Liam Neeson, titled The Commuter. This trailer doesn’t waste time setting up the story or the first conversation, it just gets right into it and shows some of the action. From the same director of Non-Stop (the airplane movie) and The Shallows, this is about solving a crime on the train. Neeson plays an insurance salesman who gets mixed up in a conspiracy on his daily train commute home. Vera Farmiga, a “mysterious stranger”, sits with him for a chat and things get very interesting. The cast includes Patrick Wilson, Killian Scott, Jonathan Banks, Sam Neill, Elizabeth McGovern, Florence Pugh, and Damson Idris. I am still curious about this, but really not expecting much with this January release date. ›››

  • Jack Black as Pennsylvania's Polka King in Trailer for 'The Polka King'

Jack Black as Pennsylvania's Polka King in Trailer for 'The Polka King'

    The Polka King Trailer

“I heard that people are investing money in you.” Netflix has finally unveiled the official trailer for The Polka King, a film which premiered at the Sundance Film Festival this year (back in January) and will be released on Netflix just before the Sundance Film Festival next year (in early 2018). Jack Black stars as Jan Lewan, a Polish immigrant who became the “King of Pennsylvania Polka” and started a Polka Ponzi scheme. This is based on a true story and it almost seems too crazy to be real, but it is. The cast includes Jenny Slate, Jason Schwartzman, Jacki Weaver, J.B. Smoove, and Willie Garson. This reminds me of Jack Black’s other good dramatic role, in Linklater’s Bernie, but it’s an entirely different story. I heard some solid buzz on this at Sundance, but it seems to have been forgotten until its return now. Take a look. ›››

  • Trailer for 'The Miracle Season' Inspiring True Story of Volleyball Team

Trailer for 'The Miracle Season' Inspiring True Story of Volleyball Team

    The Miracle Season

“How is the team looking?” LD Entertainment has debuted a trailer for a true story film titled The Miracle Season, about a high school girls’ volleyball team that had to overcome a tragic loss of one of their players. The cast of the film is lead by Helen Hunt, William Hurt, Danika Yarosh, Erin Moriarty, as well as Tiera Skovbye and Nesta Cooper. The Miracle Season is based on the inspiring true story of West High School girls’ volleyball team. In 2011, their star player Caroline Found tragically died in a moped accident, but the team (and the entire town) came together and overcame the odds. The story was already profiled on HBO’s “Real Sports” series, but this is the feature film version. The title reminds me of The Winning Season, but this is probably closer to We Are Marshall than anything else. Another inspiring sports story to enjoy. ›››

Jemaine Clement & Elliot Gould in Trailer for Comedy Film 'Humor Me'

    Humor Me Trailer

“A warm, witty response to dark times.” Shout! Studios has debuted an official trailer for an indie comedy titled Humor Me, from first-time director Sam Hoffman. The film stars Jemaine Clement as a struggling New York playwright who is forced to move in with his eccentric dad in a New Jersey retirement community after his wife decides to leave him. Elliot Gould stars as his father, and the two find awkward ways to bond in this predicament while figuring out how best to enjoy life. The cast includes Ingrid Michaelson, Annie Potts, Bebe Neuwirth, Priscilla Lopez, Erich Bergen, and Maria Dizzia. I haven’t heard of this film before, but I’m always down for anything with Jemaine Clement in it, and this looks like it will be enjoyable. ›››

Official US Trailer for the Pussy Riot Documentary 'Act & Punishment'

    Act & Punishment Trailer

“Revolution or media noise?” Cleopatra Entertainment has released a new trailer for a documentary about the controversial, radical rock band Pussy Riot, titled Act & Punishment. The film profiles their activist careers, by following them closely since they were released from prison in 2012. It examines “their evolution from mere political activists through their formation of a punk rock band destined to bring their message of revolution to the masses and beyond.” Pussy Riot is also launching a tour in the US in 2018 right after this doc premieres on VOD, and it’s all tied together to help bring more attention to these badass ladies. The film stars actual Pussy Riot members Nadezhda Tolokonnikova, Maria Alyokhina, and Yekaterina Samutsevich. This looks like a wild, bold look at how much noise they made and the importance of troublemakers today. ›››

Watch: Looper's Preview of the Exciting Sci-Fi Movies Coming in 2018

    2018 Sci-Fi Movies

Looking ahead at 2018, it’s going to be another exciting, spectacular year for the science fiction genre. With a few weeks to go until the New Year, Looper put out a video previewing some of the most anticipated sci-fi movies opening in 2018. They call the video “Sci Fi Movies That Will Completely Blow You Away In 2018,” though that’s some epic hype. I’m just happy to see this much sci-fi, it means the genre is truly in a new era of brilliance with so many boundary-pushing films on the horizon. The video profiles most of the major sci-fi movies coming out in 2018, like The Predator, Ready Player One, Annihilation, and A Wrinkle in Time, but misses one big one – the Cloverfield movie, currently set for February 2nd though that might change. This is a good video to watch to get you in the mood for some awesome movies to anticipate in 2018. ›››

  • Ed Helms & Amanda Seyfried in First Trailer for Comedy 'The Clapper'

Ed Helms & Amanda Seyfried in First Trailer for Comedy 'The Clapper'

    The Clapper Trailer

“Who is The Clapper?” Momentum Pictures has debuted an official trailer for an indie comedy titled The Clapper, the latest from director Dito Montiel (A Guide to Recognizing Your Saints, Fighting, The Son of No One, Man Down). The Clapper is about a man, played by Ed Helms, who enjoys his job to be paid to fill seats in infomercial audiences. But when a talk late night TV talk show host discovers and makes fun of him, his whole life gets turned upside-down. Very weird concept for a film, but this trailer actually makes it look kind of amusing, with a sweet side. The cast includes Amanda Seyfried, Tracy Morgan, P.J. Byrne, Charles Halford, and Leah Remini. This probably isn’t what you’re expecting, but doesn’t look too bad. ›››
