    Walk Like A Panther Trailer

“The Panthers… You shall all be warriors once more!” 20th Century Fox UK has unveiled an official trailer for a feel-good, cheesy comedy titled Walk Like A Panther, which opens in UK cinemas in March (but no US release planned yet). The film stars Stephen Graham and Dave Johns (the lead of I, Daniel Blake) as a father-son duo who must team up to help save their local pub when it’s threatened. They gather up their old wrestling friends to put on one big show dressed up in their goofy 80’s wrestling costumes to make extra money for the pub. The cast includes Stephen Marcus, Julian Sands, Jill Halfpenny, Christopher Fairbank, Robbie Gee, Sue Johnston, plus Stephen Tompkinson, along with Lena Headey and Jason Flemyng. This looks sort of fun, I guess. If this kind of British humor is your thing, then have at it. ›››

Official Trailer for Fascinating German Documentary Film 'He She I'

    He She I Trailer

“I’m the only link between my parents.” An official trailer is available online for a German documentary film titled He She I, or just Er Sie Ich in German, made by the very talented filmmaker Carlotta Kittel. This fascinating documentary is about two parents, and former lovers, who chat about their experiences together from their past. Here’s the concept – each person (they haven’t seen or talked to each other in over 20 years) was interviewed individually about their romance and the child they had together. Then, a year or so later, the other person’s interview was shown to the opposite person – and that interview was also taped as they discuss thoughts on what the other person was saying. It’s a painfully honest, sometimes amusing look at how everyone tells a different story – and how everyone’s experiences are unique, even time spent together. I had a chance to see this film and I think about it often, a very impressive, emotional, unique doc. ›››

Trailer for 'Genesis 2.0' Sundance Doc About Hunting Mammoth Tusks

    Genesis 2.0 Doc Trailer

“In the quest for life, there is nowhere man will not go.” The first full trailer has debuted online for a new documentary film titled Genesis 2.0, which is premiering at the 2018 Sundance Film Festival this month. Made by Swiss filmmaker Christian Frei and Russian filmmaker Maxim Arbugaev, the film profiles the “gold rush” happening in Siberia right now – scavengers in the cold who hunt for mammoth tusks (prized in the Chinese art market). Not only do they go into Siberia to understand how these communities of hunters work, but it also goes beyond to explore next step: resurrecting the mammoth is a first manifestation of the next great technological revolution. “Man becomes Creator. Genesis two point zero.” That’s where the title comes from. This seems like a captivating, mind-expanding documentary that examines “life” itself. Dig in. ›››

  • First Trailer for Netflix Doc 'Seeing Allred' About Activist Gloria Allred

First Trailer for Netflix Doc 'Seeing Allred' About Activist Gloria Allred

    Seeing Allred Doc Trailer

“There is a war on women… Women depend on me to be strong.” Netflix has debuted the first trailer for a documentary titled Seeing Allred, premiering at the 2018 Sundance Film Festival this month. Directed by doc filmmakers Sophie Sartain & Roberta Grossman, the film profiles activist and women’s rights attorney Gloria Allred, who has become even more prominent in the last few years with so many high profile sexual assault cases. The doc features key interviews with Gloria Steinem, Don Lemon, Alan Dershowitz, Allred’s daughter Lisa Bloom and many others. Seeing Allred is described as “a portrait of a woman everyone thinks they know, at a time when women need her the most.” This looks like a powerful, timely, very important film that goes beyond just profiling the life of a candid activist, by also holding up a mirror to society today. ›››

  • Zosia Mamet in Trailer for Sophie Brooks' Drama 'The Boy Downstairs'

Zosia Mamet in Trailer for Sophie Brooks' Drama 'The Boy Downstairs'

    The Boy Downstairs Trailer

“He’s probably still in love with you…” FilmRise has debuted a trailer for a charming romantic drama film titled The Boy Downstairs, from newcomer Sophie Brooks. The film played at the Tribeca and London Film Festivals, and will hit limited theaters starting February. Zosia Mamet (from “Girls”, Wiener-Dog, Kate Can’t Swim) stars as a woman who moves back to New York City and finds the perfect apartment to live in. However, she discovers her ex-boyfriend happens to be living in the apartment downstairs, and deals with her feelings for him while trying to figure out how to be successful in her own way. The cast includes Matthew Shear as the “boy”, as well as Sarah Ramos, Deirdre O’Connell, and Diana Irvine. I saw this in London and it’s charming, very quirky, but not that memorable or original in its story, but still good. ›››

    Gremlins: Recall Short Film

“They don’t normally does this?!” They’re back! Don’t feed them after midnight, don’t let them get wet, you know the rules. While we wait patiently for the long-awaited official Gremlins reboot, or sequel, or whatever it is they’re working on, we have this awesome fan film to keep Gremlins fans happy. Gremlins: Recall is a fan film made by filmmaker Ryan Patrick and a whole bunch of his Gremlins-loving friends. This is a seriously impressive fan film, with excellent production value and sleek cinematography, not to mention a good soundtrack (which you can download here). I love the way this opens with the infomercial, it’s kind of deceptive at first, but plays right into the story. And now I really would like another official Gremlins movie. ›››

  • Official Trailer for Mountain Retreat Thriller 'Traffik' with Paula Patton

Official Trailer for Mountain Retreat Thriller 'Traffik' with Paula Patton

    Traffik Trailer

“Let’s get away from the city… It’s miles away from everything.” Lionsgate has released the official trailer for a thriller titled Traffik, the latest from writer/director Deon Taylor. The film stars Paula Patton and Omar Epps as a couple who set off for a retreat in the mountains, but are accosted by a biker gang, who then go after them once they reach their isolated vacation rental home. The full cast includes Laz Alonso, Roselyn Sanchez, Luke Goss, Dawn Olivieri, Claude Duhamel, and Lorin McCraley. It looks like your standard angry-white-people-home-invasion thriller, where the nice people have to fight back to save themselves. I’d rather go see Breaking In, which looks like a much better twist on this concept. Have a look. ›››

  • Very Weird Trailer for 'The Further Adventures of Walt's Frozen Head'

Very Weird Trailer for 'The Further Adventures of Walt's Frozen Head'

The Further Adventures of Walt's Frozen Head

“I used to know and approve everything that went on around here…” So, this is one of the strangest trailers we’ve seen in a while. A few years back at the Sundance Film Festival, a funky little film titled Escape from Tomorrow premiered. They filmed it secretly at Disneyland without Disney’s involvement, and pretty much everyone expected it would never be released. But it did get released and is available on Netflix. Now five years later, another odd film has popped up that was filmed entirely in secret at Disney World in Orlando, without Disney being aware at all. It’s called The Further Adventures of Walt’s Frozen Head and involves a Disney employee discovering Walt Disney’s frozen head and kidnapping it for a day in the Magic Kingdom. Yeah, it’s weird. This doesn’t look good, but it does look like it’s another fun anti-Disney creation. ›››

Watch: Stellar Shot-by-Shot Breakdown of the 'Raiders' Desert Chase

Desert Chase in Raiders of the Lost Ark

Looking for a bit of inspiration about how to make a timeless action scene? Watch this stellar shot-by-shot breakdown video of the “Desert Chase” scene from Spielberg’s Raiders of the Lost Ark, made by Greek editor / filmmaker Antonios Papantoniou. Papantoniou makes many of these shot-by-shot breakdowns, but this is one of the best videos for a truly iconic action scene. The chase occurs in Raiders roughly halfway through when the Nazis try to take off with the Ark, and Indy (Harrison Ford) goes after them. This is a very intense, detailed breakdown discussing literally every last aspect – the shots, lenses, movements, everything. Dang, after this video, I just want to watch all the Indiana Jones films in a back-to-back marathon. Classics. ›››

  • Review: Liam Neeson Reaffirms His Action-Star Prowess with 'The Commuter'

Review: Liam Neeson Reaffirms His Action-Star Prowess with 'The Commuter'

    The Commuter Review

The Taken series of movies allowed for Liam Neeson’s transition into an action star, an idea that has only been solidified by the once-dramatic actor’s collaborations with director Jaume Collet-Serra. Films like Unknown, Non-Stop, and Run All Night have not only entertained action-craving audiences with high-octane thrills, they’ve established Neeson’s place as one of the go-to action stars of the modern era. The latest movie to come from this filmmaker-actor collaboration, The Commuter, is an action-thriller loaded with that particular brand of Neeson badassery. Despite a clichéd and overexposed narrative that weighs it down, the film delivers precisely what fans of the newfangled, action star expect and ends up being a fun time at the movies. Yes, you will see Liam Neeson punching more than a few unfortunate souls in the face. ›››
