US Trailer for 'Batman Ninja' Anime Movie Arriving on VOD This April

    Batman Ninja Trailer

“I have my mind, my spirit, and all of you.” Warner Bros has unveiled an official US trailer for the Japanese anime movie Batman Ninja, which re-imagines Batman as a samurai warrior who must save a town. We posted two awesome trailers for this movie late last year, and it looks seriously badass. WB also confirmed an official US release date – April 24th on VOD, then May 8th on Blu-ray/DVD for those who still need a hard copy. Batman Ninja is directed by Junpei Mizusaki with character design by Takashi Okazaki, and is about Batman defending a town in feudal Japan after being transported there by Gorilla Grodd’s time displacement machine. The English voice cast includes Roger Craig Smith as Batman and Tony Hale as the Joker, plus Grey Griffin, Tara Strong, and Fred Tatasciore. That voice cast is pretty good, making this actually sound slick in English. I’m excited to see this no matter what, hope it’s as awesome as it looks. ›››

  • New 50th Anniversary Trailer for 'Chronicle of Anna Magdalena Bach'

New 50th Anniversary Trailer for 'Chronicle of Anna Magdalena Bach'

Chronicle of Anna Magdalena Bach Trailer

“The experience is both transcendent and material.” Grasshopper Film has debuted an official trailer for the 50th anniversary re-release of the music biopic classic Chronicle of Anna Magdalena Bach, first released in 1968. Directed by Danièle Huillet & Jean-Marie Straub, the film is a meticulously recreated look at composer Johann Sebastian Bach’s life, as told from the perspective of his wife, Anna Magdalena Bach. It features spectacular sequences with multiple trained musicians recreating Bach’s live performances, and is shot in black & white as well. Starring Gustav Leonhardt as Johann Sebastian Bach, and Christiane Lang as Anna Magdalena Bach. Grasshopper will be touring a brand new 4K restoration of the film to a few cinemas around the US coming up. If you haven’t seen it, this seems like the perfect opportunity to catch it. ›››

  • US Trailer for Korean Action 'Golden Slumber' from Noh Dong-seok

US Trailer for Korean Action 'Golden Slumber' from Noh Dong-seok

    Golden Slumber Trailer

“You’re dead if you get caught!” CJ Entertainment USA recently debuted this official US trailer for Golden Slumber, a Korean action thriller hitting US theaters later this month. There’s a different Japanese film from a few years back that goes by the title Golden Slumber (a reference to the Beatles song), however this one is a Korean action film, and they’re very different. From director Noh Dong-seok, Golden Slumber stars Gang Dong-won as Gun-woo, a courier who is framed for a bombing that kills a presidential candidate. He then goes on the run and must fight with all his strength to stay alive and clear his name. The film’s full cast includes Kim Eui-sung, Han Hyo-joo, Kim Dae-myeung, and Kim Sung-kyun. This looks like a solid action film, with some double-crossing major twists typical of Korean cinema. I’m curious enough to watch. ›››

  • Monsters Reign in Second Trailer for 'Rampage' with Dwayne Johnson

Monsters Reign in Second Trailer for 'Rampage' with Dwayne Johnson

    Rampage Movie Trailer

“We’ve created the next chapter in natural selection.” Warner Bros has unleashed the second official trailer for Brad Peyton’s adaptation of the video game Rampage, starring Dwayne Johnson as a primatologist and friend of a giant ape. We posted the first trailer late last year, now we finally have the new trailer with some extra footage of the giant monsters that terrorize the city. Rampage is a live-action version of the 80’s video game about apes and monsters destroying buildings – which is all it really is about. From the director of San Andreas and Incarnate, the cast of Rampage includes Jeffrey Dean Morgan, Malin Akerman, Joe Manganiello, Naomie Harris, Marley Shelton, Jake Lacy, Breanne Hill, Jack Quaid, Joey Thurmond, and P.J. Byrne. This still looks way too much like a wannabe Pacific Rim movie, but without any of the giant robots. As much as we all love Dwayne Johnson (right?), I have a bad feeling about this one. ›››

  • Lily James in 'The Guernsey Literary & Potato Peel Pie Society' Trailer

Lily James in 'The Guernsey Literary & Potato Peel Pie Society' Trailer

The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society Trailer

“There’s more to that story than they like to let on…” Studiocanal has debuted the first official trailer for a film titled in full The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society, based on the book of the same name. This is the latest film from veteran English director Mike Newell, who hasn’t done much since his 2012 adaptation of Great Expectations, but now he’s back at it. The always-impressive Lily James stars in Guernsey as a young journalist who forms an unexpected bond with the residents of Guernsey Island (Google Maps) in the aftermath of WWII when she decides to write a book about their experiences during the war. The title is a reference to the book club that she befriends on the island. The cast includes Jessica Brown Findlay, Matthew Goode, Michiel Huisman, Katherine Parkinson, Glen Powell, Tom Courtenay, and Penelope Wilton. This looks like a moving & passionate film about the power of stories. ›››

  • Watch: Gritty Post-Apocalyptic Short Film 'Lorne' Starring Guy Pearce

Watch: Gritty Post-Apocalyptic Short Film 'Lorne' Starring Guy Pearce

    Lorne Short Film

“I’ve got no quarrel with a man who’s not trying to kill me.” Now this is a must see short film. Lorne is a short directed by Australian filmmaker Jesse Leaman of Leaman Films based in Melbourne. Set in some kind of unexplained post-apocalyptic wasteland, actor Guy Pearce plays Lorne, a traveler struggling with the weight of isolation, who is confronted by a mysterious stranger who helps him realize his existential fears. This is a gritty, gripping short about how hard it is to be alone, in more ways than one, and how it can sometimes help to be quiet and listen. The POV filmmaking in this is is crazy cool, opening up a whole other dimension for storytelling and conversing with the audience without entirely breaking the barrier of the cinematic narrative (e.g. the 4th wall). It also helps that Pearce is so captivating telling this tale. See below. ›››

  • Stelio Savante & Autumn Withers in Trailer for Indie Drama 'Avalanche'

Stelio Savante & Autumn Withers in Trailer for Indie Drama 'Avalanche'

    Avalanche Trailer

“How many more secrets do you have?” “Oodles.” The Willoughby Movie Company has debuted the first official trailer for a relationship drama titled Avalanche, from writer & director Todd L. Green. The film is about a librarian, his wife, and her lover who become trapped in a house together and are forced to navigate the fallout of their indiscretions. Starring Stelio Savante, Autumn Withers, and Gideon Emery in the three lead roles. There seems to be some intriguing things going on, involving cameras and setups just to catch the other person. This has a very low budget look and sound, and it feels like a stage play more than cinema, but it should still be a fun film to watch. As long as you can laugh at this kind of relationship humor. ›››

  • Karl Urban in Official Trailer for Bobby Moresco's Crime Thriller 'Bent'

Karl Urban in Official Trailer for Bobby Moresco's Crime Thriller 'Bent'

    Bent Trailer

“You want to make them pay for what they did to you?” Lionsgate has debuted the first official trailer for a new crime thriller titled Bent, from NYC-raised director Bobby Moresco, based on the novel titled “Deadly Codes“. Bent stars Karl Urban as a shamed former cop now working as a private investigator. He ends up in over his head following a government conspiracy involving rogue agents from a top spy agency. The full cast includes Sofía Vergara, Andy Garcia, Vincent Spano, John Finn, Grace Byers, Tonya Cornelisse, and Patrick Brennan. As cool as this sounds, it looks like pretty much every other gritty ex-cop crime thriller, which is a shame, because Urban deserves better roles than this. Not sure it’s going to be any good. ›››

  • First Trailer for Supernatural Horror 'Marrowbone' with George MacKay

First Trailer for Supernatural Horror 'Marrowbone' with George MacKay

    Marrowbone Trailer

“We have to tell Allie the truth.” Magnet Releasing has unveiled a new official trailer for the supernatural horror thriller film Marrowbone, which is the feature directorial debut of Spanish writer Sergio G. Sanchez, who previously wrote the scripts for The Orphanage and The Impossible. The film is about four siblings who seek refuge in an old home after the death of their mother, only to discover that the house has another, more sinister, inhabitant. George MacKay (seen in Captain Fantastic) stars, along with Anya Taylor-Joy, Charlie Heaton, Mia Goth, Nicola Harrison, and Matthew Stagg. This looks like it has some impressive cinematography to top off a chilling ghost story. Another solid horror that is worth a look. ›››

  • Second Trailer for John Krasinski's Eerie Sci-Fi Thriller 'A Quiet Place'

Second Trailer for John Krasinski's Eerie Sci-Fi Thriller 'A Quiet Place'

    A Quiet Place Trailer

“Who are we, if we can’t protect them? We have to protect them…” Paramount has unveiled another official trailer for the sci-fi thriller A Quiet Place, from director John Krasinski, who also stars in this. While there is more footage in this latest trailer, thankfully it doesn’t give anything big away (yet) – they’re still keeping most of it a mystery. Which is perfect because I don’t want it all spoiled. The film is about a family living quietly on a farm, keeping to themselves. Some kind of monsters have taken over the world but they only hunt by sound, so if you stay quiet they can’t find you. Emily Blunt also stars, along with Noah Jupe and Millicent Simmonds (who you may recognize as the deaf actress from Wonderstruck). This has quickly become one of my most anticipated films this year, the little touches in it make all the difference. Can’t wait. ›››
