This Christmas, a new story begins. “It is wonderful to see you!” Disney has debuted the first teaser trailer for the new Mary Poppins Returns, starring Emily Blunt as a young Mary Poppins. Set in Depression-era London, a now-grown Jane and Michael Banks, along with Michael’s three children, are visited by the enigmatic Mary Poppins. Through her unique magical skills, and with the aid of her friend Jack, played by Lin-Manuel Miranda, she helps the family rediscover the joy and wonder missing in their lives. The cast includes Ben Whishaw, Emily Mortimer, Colin Firth, Meryl Streep, along with Julie Walters as the Banks’ housekeeper Ellen. The film also introduces three new Banks’ children which are played by Pixie Davies, Nathanael Saleh, and newcomer Joel Dawson. This teaser doesn’t really have a lot of footage, but should still get you a bit more excited for this. Disney has another massive hit on their hands, for sure. ›››

The 90th Academy Awards are upon us and it’s time to watch the show and discover the winners of the most prestigious award in Hollywood. The Oscar ceremony is being broadcast live from the Dolby Theatre in Hollywood with the esteemed Jimmy Kimmel as our host of the show this year. There are nine excellent Best Picture nominees, and I’m looking forward to finally seeing who wins – no one really knows what it will be. It has been a very interesting awards season, with all kinds of surprises and major moments. It’s finally time to find out who is taking home all the Oscars, and who isn’t, at the Academy Awards. The full list of nominees below will be updated with winners marked once announced live tonight – refresh for all updates.

It’s time! Today’s the big day. By the end of the night, we’ll know which movies are taking home the golden statue at the 90th Academy Awards. To get everyone in the mood, and remind you that all the films that don’t win are still worth watching, here’s one final Oscars supercut video montage. This video is made by a trailer production company from Vienna, Austria called Passionsfruit. They’ve edited footage from 30 of the films nominated at the Oscars this year into a two-and-a-half minute video, to make you excited and remind you how wonderful cinema is. It’s fun to see footage from Kong: Skull Island and War for the Planet of the Apes and Star Wars in the midst of all these series nominees, but that’s just because I love good sci-fi. ›››

“Do see her, too?” OceanWizard has debuted an official US trailer for the film The Radiant One, a mystery thriller indie feature from writer/director Kristopher Dolphin. This psychological thriller is about a troubled man who turns himself in, believing he’s harmed others but is at war with himself over the facts surrounding his quest for clarity and a brush with supernatural phenomena. There’s much more going on in this, which the trailer points out better than describing everything in it. Dan Shaked stars as Ridley, and the full cast includes: Peyton McDavitt, Lindsey Cruz, Ashlee Grubbs, Toni Blair, Isaac Rhino, Sean Patrick Flaherty,, Alexander Dolphin, Karyn Anderson, and Kevin Flaherty. “I want to be beside you…” Samuel Goldwyn Films has revealed a new official US trailer for the romantic drama thriller titled Submergence, the latest feature made by prolific German filmmaker Wim Wenders. We posted the original international trailer for this when it arrived in January, now we get to see a bit more with this US trailer. The film stars Alicia Vikander and James McAvoy as lovers, who are separated and isolated: “In a room with no windows on the eastern coast of Africa, an Englishman, James More, is held captive by jihadist fighters. Thousands of miles away in the Greenland Sea, Danielle Flinders prepares to dive in a submersible to the ocean floor. In their confines they are drawn back to the Christmas of the previous year, where a chance encounter on a beach in Normandy led to an intense and enduring romance.” The cast includes Alexander Siddig, Celyn Jones, and Reda Kateb. A tad bit cheesy but might be good. ›››

“These are definitely not from any bed bugs.” Gravitas Ventures has debuted an official trailer for the indie horror film Apartment 212, directed by Haylar Garcia. This played at a few smaller genre festivals last year, and is getting a VOD release this month in a few weeks. This creepy creature feature is about a small-town girl starting over in the big city. She moves into a new apartment in hopes of starting anew, but freaks out because something is eating at her when she’s asleep. Sounds scary because it is, holy crap, you probably won’t be able to sleep after this. Penelope Mitchell stars, along iwth Kyle Gass (from Tenacious D), Sally Kirkland, Chris Johnson, Han Soto, Dan Davidson, and Kathryn Gould. Have a look below. ›››

“Mom, you need to be a little bit realistic.” Instead of a Fifty Shades of Grey adaptation, how about a movie about reading Fifty Shades of Grey? Paramount has released the first official trailer for a comedy titled Book Club, starring Diane Keaton and Jane Fonda. The movie is about four lifelong friends who have their lives forever changed after reading 50 Shades of Grey in their monthly book club. Yeah, seriously, that’s the plot of this but surprise it doesn’t look so bad. The cast also includes Candice Bergen, Mary Steenburgen, Craig T. Nelson, with Andy Garcia and Don Johnson as two of the “old flames” that return. As wacky as it all sounds, this seems like an amusing movie about finding romance even when you’re older, and not really about the book itself being so scandalous. Looks like it will be good fun. “Not since the beginning of time has the world known terror like this!” Video editor/filmmaker Erick Solis has created a retro 50s trailer for Guillermo del Toro’s The Shape of Water, which will likely pick up a few Academy Awards this weekend. The film is inspired by many great classic films, specifically Creature from the Black Lagoon (released in 1954) and other Universal Monsters movies. This trailer is a throwback to those films and it’s pretty much a perfect re-edit for this film, which already feels vintage anyway. Sally Hawkins stars in The Shape of Water, and the film’s excellent ensemble cast includes Michael Shannon, Michael Stuhlbarg, Octavia Spencer, Richard Jenkins, Doug Jones , and David Hewlett. This is a fun watch as we head into Oscars weekend, since The Shape of Water has the most nominations of any film. ›››

“You’re a time bomb. Ever since the day you were born.” LevelFILM has released the first official trailer for a gritty crime thriller titled Juggernaut, the feature directorial debut of Australian filmmaker Daniel DiMarco. This play at a few smaller festivals last year, but has mostly gone under the radar until now. Juggernaut stars Jack Kesy (seen Baywatch, 12 Strong, Death Wish) as a small town outlaw who returns to his hometown, violently obsessed with the notion that his mother’s death was not a suicide. The full cast includes Amanda Crew, David Cubitt, Stephen McHattie, Peter McRobbie, Ty Olsson, and Matty Finochio. This is a damn good trailer, very moody with a few cool shots, I’m quite curious about this now. ›››
