Official US Trailer for Laurent Cantet's Acclaimed Film 'The Workshop'

    The Workshop Trailer

“Why does a writer waste time with us?” A new trailer has debuted for the French film The Workshop, also L’atelier in French, which premiered at the Cannes Film Festival to very positive reviews. Made by the director of The Class, the film went on to play at numerous film festivals throughout 2017, and is just getting released in select theaters later this month. The Workshop is about a writing workshop class in the summer in a small town near Marseilles, which is being taught by a famous novelist from Paris, played by Marina Foïs. The students all have something unique to offer, and are all there for various reasons, but one of them seems to stand out. Also starring Matthieu Lucci, Florian Beaujean, Mamadou Doumbia, Mélissa Guilbert, Warda Rammach, Julien Souve, and Issam Talbi. This is a powerful, fascinating film about the importance of storytelling and getting deeper into the aspects of humanity that represent each of us. I saw this in Cannes and highly recommend it, it can teach you to look at different perspectives in new ways. ›››

  • Charlize Theron in Full Trailer for Jason Reitman's Latest Film 'Tully'

Charlize Theron in Full Trailer for Jason Reitman's Latest Film 'Tully'

    Tully Trailer

“You can’t fix the parts without treating the whole.” Focus Features has released a full-length trailer for the film Tully, the latest from director Jason Reitman, reuniting with with Charlize Theron, who starred in his film Young Adult, and reuniting with screenwriter Diablo Cody, who wrote the scripts for Juno and Young Adult. Tully was a last minute, surprise premiere at the Sundance Film Festival – where I saw it and loved it, naming it as one of my favorite films of the festival. Theron plays a mother of three, including a new baby, who hires a night nanny as suggested by her brother. Mackenzie Davis plays Tully, the charming nanny who helps her finish all the work in the evening. The film’s cast includes Mark Duplass and Ron Livingston. This really is one of my favorites, it’s one of Reitman’s best, and I highly recommend seeing it. ›››

  • First Trailer for New Zealand Action Film 'The Stolen' Starring Alice Eve

First Trailer for New Zealand Action Film 'The Stolen' Starring Alice Eve

    The Stolen Trailer

“Tell me who it was!” ACE Entertainment and Ascendant Releasing have debuted an official trailer for the indie action film The Stolen, starring Alice Eve as a woman who goes off on her own dangerous adventure to find and save her kidnapped child. Set in the 1800s in New Zealand, Eve stars as the wife of a farmer who is murdered. She’s then forced to join a convoy of ex-convicts, whores, hustlers and a native Maori warrior heading for the rough mining town of Gold Town, where she hopes to find her son and bring him home. The film’s full cast includes Jack Davenport, Graham McTavish, Richard O’Brien, Stan Walker, Cohen Holloway, Glen Levy, Gillian MacGregor, and Stig Eldred. This doesn’t look so bad, but it also just doesn’t look good either. Alice Eve tries so hard but just isn’t a great actress, and the rest looks forgettable. ›››

  • First Teaser for Indie Exploration Sci-Fi Film 'Prospect' Playing at SXSW

First Teaser for Indie Exploration Sci-Fi Film 'Prospect' Playing at SXSW

    Prospect Sci-Fi Teaser Trailer

“Some of us have the proclivity for greatness, while others do not.” Another new teaser trailer for a SXSW Film Festival premiere. The first teaser has landed for Prospect, a sci-fi feature that is based on the short film of the same name that we featured on this site back in 2014. From directors Chris Caldwell & Zeek Earl, the film is about a teenage girl and her father who travel to a remote moon on the hunt for elusive riches. They discover others hiding in the moon’s toxic forest and their visit quickly devolves into a desperate fight to escape. Jay Duplass and Sophie Thatcher star, with a cast including Pedro Pascal, Andre Royo, Sheila Vand, and Anwan Glover. So, this honestly looks even way better than I expected, with some truly exciting footage. Another film that should definitely be on your SXSW line-up. Can’t wait to see it myself. ›››

Worth Watching: Amazing Full Trailer for Netflix's 'Lost in Space' Series

    Lost in Space Trailer

“Danger, Will Robinson!” Whoa this looks amazing!! You have to watch this trailer. I’m breaking our own rules (we don’t cover TV) to post this trailer for a new Netflix series, a new update on Lost in Space. And it seriously looks incredible. This thrilling trailer packs in A LOT, I mean a lot a lot of awesome footage, with some big reveals and gorgeously epic sci-fi space scenes. Obviously the story sticks to the same story in the original series, with a family crew on a colonizing spaceship crash landing on a planet, where they discover some kind of intelligent new life-form and all kinds of other troubles. The cast includes Max Jenkins as Will, with Mina Sundwall, Molly Parker, Toby Stephens, Parker Posey, Taylor Russell, Ignacio Serricchio, and Amelia Burstyn. It’s rare we make an exception to post about TV, but this deserves it. I’m seriously impressed by this trailer and really looking forward to watching the series coming up in April. ›››

Official Trailer for Frank Oz's Fun 'Muppet Guys Talking' Documentary

    Muppet Guys Talking

“I think about Jim all the time.” The full trailer has arrived for the documentary Muppet Guys Talking, presented and directed by the one-and-only Frank Oz. This amusing film is about what happens when Oz gets together five of the original Muppet performers in one room for a discussion about all kinds of funny topics. The Muppet puppeteers in the discussion are: Frank Oz (Grover, Bert, Cookie Monster, Miss Piggy), of course, plus Jerry Nelson (Count Von Count, Mr. Snuffleupagus), Fran Brill (Betty Lou, Prairie Dawn, Little Bird), Dave Goelz (The Great Gonzo, Bunsen Honeydew), and Bill Barretta (Johnny Fiama, Pepe the King Prawn, Bobo the Bear). They often discuss Jim Henson and his influence and their memories of working with him, along with various behind-the-scenes stories and other funny tidbits of details from their time working as Muppets. This looks wonderful and looks like it will be a total joy to watch. A must see doc. ›››

Watch: 3 Wonderful Movie Montages from the 90th Academy Awards

    Academy Awards Movie Montages

“For me, the movies are like a machine that generates empathy… It lets you understand a little bit more about different hopes, aspirations, dreams…” Roger Ebert nailed it with that speech. It can’t really be said any better. As someone who has dedicated all their time to the glory of movies, I am already madly in love with them. I’ve watched the Academy Awards every year for as long as I can remember. During the Oscars show this year, they aired two incredible movie montages, and a few other segments that were some of the best they’ve made in years. Did they finally hire some of the best supercut editors from Vimeo/YouTube? It seems like it. The main “90 Years of Oscars” montage is one of their best ever – it’ll whisk you away into the amazing, exhilarating, breathtaking, beautiful world of movies, and remind you why we love them so much. ›››

  • Nicolas Cage in Official Trailer for Cheesy Sci-Fi 'The Humanity Bureau'

Nicolas Cage in Official Trailer for Cheesy Sci-Fi 'The Humanity Bureau'

    The Humanity Bureau

“Whatever Kross is planning, make sure he doesn’t succeed.” How about some Nicolas Cage cheesy action for a post-Oscars detox? QME Entertainment & Minds Eye Entertainment have debuted the official trailer for The Humanity Bureau, a thrilling sci-fi adventure about survival, truth and the price of freedom. Set in a post-apocalyptic America, the film stars Nicolas Cage as a caseworker for a government agency called the Humanity Bureau exiles members of society deemed unproductive and banishes them to a colony known as New Eden. The full cast includes Sarah Lind, Hugh Dillon, Vicellous Shannon, Kurt Max Runte, and Jakob Davies. Usually I’m always up for some sci-fi, but this looks bad, really bad. The VFX look bad, the story is half-baked nonsense, the dialogue is terrible, it’s barely sci-fi anyway. I’m not surprised this is a Nicolas Cage movie, he’s in nothing but junk these days (except, maybe, Mom & Dad). You’ve been warned. ›››

  • Teaser Trailer for Rock Climbing Doc 'The Dawn Wall' Playing at SXSW

Teaser Trailer for Rock Climbing Doc 'The Dawn Wall' Playing at SXSW

    The Dawn Wall Teaser Trailer

“I just have this fire in me…” Red Bull Media has launched the first teaser trailer for an adventure sports documentary titled The Dawn Wall, profiling hardcore adventure junkies and experienced rock climbers Tommy Caldwell and Kevin Jorgeson, specifically their attempt to climb the “Dawn Wall” – a seemingly impossible 3,000 foot rock face in Yosemite National Park, California. This doc is premiering at the SXSW Film Festival later this month in the Documentary Spotlight category, which means it’s more than another sports doc. Some of you may remember the media frenzy this climb caused in the summer of 2015, because Caldwell and Jorgeson spent weeks living on the rock face trying to complete the climb. Making it even more of a challenge, Jorgeson lost index finger in an accident in Kyrgyzstan, but he continued to climb and get even stronger, attempting this challenge as a way to prove he can still achieve anything. It looks crazy cool. ›››

Jordan Peele - Indie Spirit Awards

The Independent Spirit Awards are an annual award given in the name of independent film, featuring plenty of those little indie films which deserve the honor and recognition that they usually don’t receive – celebrating their 33rd year. The 2018 winners of the Spirit Awards were announced Saturday before the Oscars at a ceremony out in Santa Monica. The main winner this year was Get Out, winning Best Director and Best Film, the two top prizes. The rest of the winners include a good mix of some of our favorites, like Call Me By Your Name and Faces Places.
