US Trailer for ‘Shooting the Mafia’ Doc About an Italian Photographer

    Shooting the Mafia Trailer

“Imagine how they felt, being photographed.” Cohen Media Group has unveiled an official US trailer for the acclaimed documentary called Shooting the Mafia, which first premiered at both the Sundance & Berlin Film Festivals earlier this year. The doc film is a profile of famed Italian photographer Letizia Battaglia, the first woman to ever be employed as a photographer at a newspaper in Italy in the 1960s. She went on to take iconic photos of the Mafia and their many violent crimes during their worst era, receiving death threats and getting entangled in their world. She fought back by showing the public just how bad they were, never letting any pressure stop her from using her camera to tell the truth. This was one of my favorite films at the Berlin Film Festival this year, explaining that it’s “a fantastic, powerful doc that is both about a remarkable woman, and also a historical examination of how the Mafia lost its power over the years.” A must catch doc. ›››

Watch: Horror Short Film ‘Mermaid’ About an Eerie, Haunted Painting

    Mermaid Short Film

“She has been staring at me for hours… Do you see her?” Can a painting be haunted? I guess we found out the answer to that question with Ghostbusters II (all hail Vigo, right?). Mermaid is a new horror short film by filmmaker Wilfredo “Wil” Manzano – we already featured his other horror short The Fitting last year. His latest is an under-five-minutes short about a woman who thinks a painting on her wall is haunted. But is it really? Starring Shelby Hightower & Kerry Murphy. This is a simple but stirring little short, relying on all the typical filmmaking tricks to build up an uneasiness as the story plays out. It’s worth a quick watch. ›››

First Teaser Trailer for Indie Sci-Fi ‘Code 8’ Film Directed by Jeff Chan

    Code 8 Teaser Trailer

“If you see something that you want – take it!” Vertical Entertainment has released the first teaser trailer for an indie sci-fi film titled Code 8, an intriguing mix of genre ideas involving futuristic robot cops and people with special powers. Code 8 is a feature adaptation of Jeff Chan’s own short film also titled Code 8 (watch here). The film is about a desperate young man possessing special powers clashes with a militarized police force after committing a petty crime. Starring Robbie Amell, with Stephen Amell, Greg Bryk, Kari Matchett, Sung Kang, Alex Mallari Jr., Peter Outerbridge, and Shaun Benson. I just saw this film at the Sitges Film Festival a few weeks ago, and it’s good but not nearly as good as it should be. Some cool ideas and strong visuals, but a lackluster story. It’s still worth a look – considering it is an original sci-fi. ›››

  • David Arquette & Jennifer Esposito in First Trailer for ‘Mob Town’ Film

David Arquette & Jennifer Esposito in First Trailer for ‘Mob Town’ Film

    Mob Town Trailer

“There is a network for organized crime running in & out of this area.” Saban Films has debuted an official trailer for an indie drama titled Mob Town, the latest film made by actor / director Danny A. Abeckaser. It tells the story about the famed meeting of the heads of the Mafia in 1957 in upstate Apalachin, NY, during which a local cop went after 62 mobsters. “One cop faced off against the mob and changed law enforcement forever.” This stars David Arquette, Jennifer Esposito, Danny A. Abeckaser, Jamie-Lynn Sigler, and PJ Byrne. This looks like a “dramatic” Asylum rip-off of The Irishman, or any other mobster movie, with some seriously bad acting and nothing of interest to offer us besides “look, the Mafia is in town!” Ugh. ›››

    Crown Vic Trailer

“I’m telling you, man, it’s a war out here. Going to be us against them.” Screen Media Films has unveiled an official trailer for an indie thriller titled Crown Vic, which first premiered at the Tribeca Film Festival earlier this year. Written & directed by Joel Souza, the title is a reference to the cop car that most police drive around America – known as a “Crown Vic” because it’s a Ford Crown Victoria. This film tells the story of one memorable night in the life of LAPD officer Ray Mandel while hunting two cop killers on the loose. The two cops, one a rookie, must contend with a city about to boil over. Starring Thomas Jane and Luke Kleintank, with David Krumholtz, Bridget Moynahan, Gregg Bello, Scottie Thompson, and Josh Hopkins. Looks like a very intense, gritty film about how incredibly hard it is to work as cops in a big city. ›››

Full Trailer for Imaginary Friend Horror Thriller Film ‘Daniel Isn’t Real’

    Daniel Isn't Real Trailer

“Daniel is simply an aspect of your mind.” Samuel Goldwyn Films & Shudder have unveiled a full official trailer for Daniel Isn’t Real, a horror-thriller which has been playing on the festival circuit all year after originally premiering at SXSW. From writer / director Adam Egypt Mortimer (Some Kind of Hate), and adapted from Brian DeLeeuw’s novel, the film is about a college freshmen named Luke who resurrects his childhood imaginary friend Daniel to help him cope. But he ends up in even more trouble. Miles Robbins stars as Luke, with Patrick Schwarzenegger playing his friend Daniel, plus Sasha Lane, Hannah Marks, and Mary Stuart Masterson. This looks super trippy and totally wild, definitely “mind-bendingly freaky” as the quote says. Reviews so far are good; it’s an intense trailer that should put this on your radar. ›››

  • Did You Get a Letter? First Trailer for Horror Comedy ‘Red Letter Day’

Did You Get a Letter? First Trailer for Horror Comedy ‘Red Letter Day’

    Red Letter Day Trailer

“Might be taking these letters a little too seriously…” Epic Pictures has debuted the first official trailer for the indie horror comedy Red Letter Day, which will be available to watch this November after premiering at numerous film festivals earlier this year. A typically quiet suburban community descends into chaos and paranoia after the delivery of mysterious red letters. A recently divorced mother and her two teens receive the letters, instructing them each to kill or be killed. As the bloodshed begins, they find themselves in a race against time to protect the ones they love from the people they thought they knew. This looks quite twisted. Starring Dawn Van de Schoot, Hailey Foss, Roger LeBlanc, Tiffany Helm, Kaeleb Zain Gartner, and Peter Strand Rumpel. It’s a wicked concept, that definitely brings out the worst in people. Have fun. ›››

  • Full-Length Trailer for Thai Soccer Team Cave Rescue Film ‘The Cave’

Full-Length Trailer for Thai Soccer Team Cave Rescue Film ‘The Cave’

    The Cave Trailer

“We’re going to dive ’em out.” Screen Daily has debuted the first official trailer for The Cave, the very first (of many in the works) narrative feature based on the daring cave rescue in Thailand that captured the world’s attention in June/July of 2018. Directed by filmmaker Tom Waller, who was born in Thailand, the film features a few of the real divers playing themselves, however they cast Thai actors to play the kids and their soccer team coach. It took 18 days, with teams from around the world, to rescue all 12 of the children from deep inside the Tham Luang cave. Tom Waller’s The Cave film stars Ekawat Niratvorapanya as the coach, plus Jim Warny and James Edward Holley. This looks exactly as expected without any surprises – a very powerful, heroic recreation of this harrowing cave rescue in northern Thailand. Check it out below. ›››

  • Trailer for ‘We Believe In Dinosaurs’ Doc – Kentucky Builds Noah’s Ark

Trailer for ‘We Believe In Dinosaurs’ Doc – Kentucky Builds Noah’s Ark

    We Believe In Dinosaurs Trailer

“I really wish there were more people helping me fight this.” 1091 Media has debuted an official trailer for an indie documentary titled We Believe In Dinosaurs, which is a clever title for a film about people who do not believe in dinosaurs. The documentary follows the design and construction of a massive $120 million Noah’s Ark replica in rural Kentucky, an attraction for religious fanatics, telling the story of the unsettling and uniquely American conflict between science and religion. Their aim is to prove that the Earth is only 6,000 years old and that the Bible is scientifically accurate. Of course, we all know how laughable this all is. It’s described as a “jarring cultural examination in the vein of Jesus Camp,” that “explores the complicated relationship between science and religion by peering into one of the most prominent cultural ‘bubbles’ in the United States today.” This actually looks like a rather fascinating doc film, a story about local communities. ›››
