    Honeytrap Trailer

“Do you want to kiss me?” Array has debuted a new official trailer for an indie drama called Honeytrap, which premiered at the London Film Festival back in 2014 and is finally getting released in US theaters this year thanks to Ava DuVernay’s new distribution company. The film stars Jessica Sula as a 15-year-old girl in high school in the UK who, after a bullying incident, decides to “transform herself inside and out.” She then gets caught up in various romances with older men. Also starring Lucien Laviscount, Naomi Ryan, and Ntonga Mwanza. This looks like a unique coming-of-age drama with some strong performances, but not sure if it’s worth checking out in theaters or not. The music they use in this trailer is lovely. Take a look. ›››

    Free Fire Trailer

“Here we go… Now we’re cookin’!” A24 has launched the first official red band trailer for Ben Wheatley’s new movie Free Fire, which just premiered at midnight at the Toronto Film Festival last night. It’s about an arms deal gone wrong, which turns into an all-out gunfight in a warehouse. This ensemble action movie stars Sharlto Copley, Armie Hammer, Brie Larson, Cillian Murphy, Noah Taylor, Sam Riley, Michael Smiley and Jack Reynor. From the screening last night, critics have described it as “insane” and a “real-time pistol opera” that is so much fun, saying it’s a entire film about that scene where the characters get pinned down in a gun fight. This looks awesome! Looking forward to seeing this myself. Fire it up below. ›››

    Live by Night Trailer

“I signed up to fight in the war. I went away a soldier, I came home an outlaw.” Warner Bros has finally debuted the first official trailer for Live by Night, both written and directed by (and starring) Ben Affleck. The film is set in Boston in the Prohibition Era and centers around a group of individuals and their dealings in the world of organized crime. Affleck stars as Joe Coughlin, the youngest son of a Boston police captain, who becomes an outlaw. The full cast features Scott Eastwood, Elle Fanning, Zoe Saldana, Sienna Miller, Chris Sullivan, Anthony Michael Hall, Brendan Gleeson, Titus Welliver, Chris Messina, Chris Cooper and Derek Mears. This looks totally awesome. Lots of guns, booze, criminals, and some stunning cinematography to bring the sets to life. Looks like Affleck is getting better and better as a director. ›››

Watch: 4 Charming Short Films Inspired by 'Kubo and the Two Strings'

    Kubo and the Two Things

“You could taste the energy of a group thrilled to be together, on an island that doesn’t exist anywhere else.” By now you should’ve already seen Laika’s Kubo and the Two Strings, as the film has been playing in theaters for a few weeks and we’ve been singing its praises ever since. In honor of the release, Universal partnered with a filmmaker network called “The Smalls” and brought a group of animators to their studio in Portland, Oregon. After visiting and getting a look at their process, these four filmmakers put together their own short films inspired by Kubo and the Two Strings and they’re wonderful (hosted by Little White Lies). Beyond just being impressive creations of their own, it’s exciting to see how one of the year’s best movies is inspiring people in different ways. This movie is seriously stellar and this should be yet another push to go see it if you haven’t already (or to go see it again, because why not!). Check out the shorts embedded below. ›››

  • Festival Teaser Trailer for 'Buster's Mal Heart' Starring Rami Malek

Festival Teaser Trailer for 'Buster's Mal Heart' Starring Rami Malek

    Buster's Mal Heart Trailer

“I’ve got the sinking sensation again…” With the Toronto Film Festival now underway, a teaser trailer has debuted for Buster’s Mal Heart, one of the many indie films showing there over the next week and a half. Directed by Sarah Adina Smith, and starring Rami Malek as a “troubled man on the run from fate”, this short teaser doesn’t reveal much but it definitely is a very intriguing first look. The cast includes DJ Qualls, Kate Lyn Sheil, Lin Shaye, Toby Huss, Mark Kelly and Teresa Yenque. Malek (who is breaking out thanks to “Mr. Robot” though we love him in The Master, Ain’t Them Bodies Saints and Short Term 12) looks great with a full beard and long hair in this, and I’m curious to see how it works into the story. Enjoy. ›››

    Voyage of Time IMAX Featurette

“Really trying to make this ultimate combination of organic and digital.” IMAX has released a fascinating featurette on the making of Terrence Malick’s new documentary Voyage of Time, examining the creation of the universe leading all the way up to the origin of man. We’ve already featured two different trailers for the two versions of this movie, but this video dives into the processes and techniques they used to make the visuals in the movie. It’s remarkable to see how they made some of these visuals using practical methods, including fluid tanks and smoke machines and other tricks. They tried to make this as realistic as possible, and it looks so so so beautiful. Malick is going all out with the visuals here with great attention to detail. I really can’t wait to experience this in its full IMAX glory. “We deserve to pause sometimes and just reflect.” ›››

  • Official Trailer for Indie Film '37' About the Murder of Kitty Genovese

Official Trailer for Indie Film '37' About the Murder of Kitty Genovese

    37 Movie Trailer

“If you show weakness, people will walk all over you.” Do you know the story of Kitty Genovese? A trailer has debuted for the film 37, inspired by the true story of the murder of Kitty Genovese in 1964. The title refers to the 37 people who were witnesses to her rape and murder, yet did nothing to stop it. The film is told entirely from the perspectives of her apathetic neighbors in Queens, who chose not to get involved for fear of unintended consequences. The ensemble cast stars Samira Wiley, Michael Potts, Maria Dizzia, Jamie Harrold, Thomas Kopache, Lucy Martin, Adrian Martinez, Sophia Lillis, Marquise Gary and Christina Brucato as Kitty Genovese. This trailer shows promise, even though it seems so depressing. ›››

Watch This: 80's Adventure Throwback Rescue Short Film 'Beyond'

    Beyond Short Film

“I can do this!” Another outstanding short film that is worth your time. This one is titled Beyond, and it’s from writer/director Jeremy Haccoun (see @JeremyHaccoun). This is also exciting to watch because we originally featured this back in 2012 when it was looking for funding on Kickstarter, now four years later you can see the completed short film and it’s impressive. Haccoun wanted to make an adventure film that hearkens back to the Spielberg movies of the 80s, like Indiana Jones and The Goonies, and he certainly achieved that. Even the score is pretty much a John Williams throwback. This is also the kind of fun film where a kid does something crazy, but pulls it off, which is cool because this should inspire kids to be brave. ›››

  • First Trailer for Stephen Gaghan's 'Gold' with Matthew McConaughey

First Trailer for Stephen Gaghan's 'Gold' with Matthew McConaughey

    Gold Movie Trailer

“For better or worse, the ride had begun. And what a ride…” The Weinstein Company has debuted the first trailer for the film called Gold, the latest from screenwriter Stephen Gaghan, who also directs. Gold stars Matthew McConaughey as Kenny Wells, and Édgar Ramírez as Michael Acosta, two businessmen who team up to search for gold in Indonesia. It’s based on the 1993 Bre-X Mineral Corporation mining scandal, and almost feels like a Wolf of Wall Street sequel in a few ways. The cast includes Bryce Dallas Howard, Joshua Harto, Timothy Simons, Corey Stoll, Toby Kebbell, Bruce Greenwood, Bill Camp and Rachael Taylor. This looks solid, but there’s a wacky side to it I wasn’t expecting. It might be fun to watch. ›››

  • Official Trailer for Vermont Farmer Documentary 'Peter and the Farm'

Official Trailer for Vermont Farmer Documentary 'Peter and the Farm'

    Peter and the Farm Trailer

“Do you want to save the world, or go down?” Magnolia Pictures has released a trailer for a documentary titled Peter and the Farm, about an aging Vermont farmer named Peter Dunning. Filmmaker Tony Stone decided to profile Peter because he has quite a legacy – he’s been working on his 187 acre farm for 40 years, has had 3 wives, has 4 children, and yet now works alone on his farm with all of his animals. As much as it may seem a doc about a farmer is boring, this is anything but – it’s a deeply introspective examination of a person who has lived quite an incredible life. The description says “Peter veers between elation and despair, often suggesting to the filmmakers his own suicide”, which is quite sad but also a brutally honest look at the balance of life. This looks exceptional, actually, with fantastic cinematography to top it off. Worth watching. ›››
