New Trailer for Sci-Fi 'Passengers' with Chris Pratt & Jennifer Lawrence

    Passengers Trailer #2

“There’s something they didn’t tell us…” Sony has unveiled a new 60-second TV trailer for the sci-fi thriller Passengers, starring Chris Pratt and Jennifer Lawrence as two space travelers stuck on an interstellar spaceship. With about a month to go until release, Sony is finally ramping up their marketing and pushing out tons of TV spots (one is included below) as well as marketing material for this movie. It’s finally looking pretty damn good, and this new footage shows even more scenes form the movie (that involve lots of VFX). The first trailer looked great, and I’m still very excited to see this movie. They don’t seem to be deviating too far of course (from the script) and everything looks polished. Bring on more epic space travel sci-fi! Dive in. ›››

    La La Land Featurette

“They seemed excited about the amount of work it would take to do this movie…” Lionsgate has released a 4-minute extended featurette for Damien Chazelle’s stellar La La Land, going behind the making of this magnificent modern musical. It’s one of the most refreshing and exciting movies this entire year, and it’s incredibly impressive thanks to the vision of writer/director Damien Chazelle. Chazelle is featured in this video a lot, talking about various aspects of the movie, from choosing the actors to the choreography to the set design. Ryan Gosling and Emma Stone play the star-crossed Los Angeles lovers. I’m glad Lionsgate is sharing so much of this movie before release, they seem to be totally supportive of it and that’s great. Enjoy. ›››

  • Must Watch: First Trailer for Martin Scorsese's 'Silence' Set in Japan

Must Watch: First Trailer for Martin Scorsese's 'Silence' Set in Japan

    Silence Trailer

“The moment you set foot in that country, you step into high danger.” Paramount has finally unveiled the first official trailer for Martin Scorsese’s new film, titled Silence, adapted from Shûsaku Endô’s novel of the same name. The story follows two Jesuit priests, played by Adam Driver and Andrew Garfield, who travel to Japan in the 17th century only to discover that the Japanese have outlawed Christianity. Liam Neeson and Ciarán Hinds also play two other priests, with a Japanese cast including Tadanobu Asano, Shin’ya Tsukamoto, Yôsuke Kubozuka, Issei Ogata and Yoshi Oida. Word is this is one of Scorsese’s longest films, but it looks like it’s going to be entrancing and harrowing to watch. As expected, this trailer is full of some fantastic footage from Scorsese, and the intense score only adds to it. Can’t wait to see this film. ›››

  • Looking Back: Aronofsky's 'The Fountain' is an Underrated Masterpiece

Looking Back: Aronofsky's 'The Fountain' is an Underrated Masterpiece

    The Fountain

When you think of auteur filmmaker Darren Aronofsky, you probably think of Requiem for a Dream or Black Swan. However, when I think of Darren Aronofsky, I can’t help but gravitate toward what I think is his most underrated film: The Fountain, released in 2006. The science fiction love story, starring Hugh Jackman and Rachel Weisz playing essentially the same characters over three timelines, was released ten years ago today with little fanfare. The film was blasted by critics and made very little at the box office. However, I fell in love with the film from the moment I gazed my eyes on the first frame ten years ago. Let’s explore why I think the film is an underrated masterpiece and one of Aronofsky’s best in his filmography. ›››

  • First Official Trailer for Action Film 'Kill Ratio' Starring Tom Hopper

First Official Trailer for Action Film 'Kill Ratio' Starring Tom Hopper

    Kill Ratio Trailer

“You are witnessing history today.” XLrator Media has debuted a trailer for an indie action movie titled Kill Ratio, which looks like another formulaic action flick. The plot involves an American covert operative who becomes the one man who can save an entire country when a “ruthless military leader” attempts a coup. Tom Hopper (from “Black Sails”, “Merlin” and Knights of Badassdom) stars, with Lacy Moore, Amy Huberman, Nick Dunning, Conor Hegarty, Brian McGuinness and Michelle Lehane. This looks particularly cheesy, especially considering it’s another action movie that takes place inside of one building. The sword fight at the end nearly made me roll my eyes. I’m not expecting much from this, but who knows. ›››

  • Jason Sudeikis & Maisie Williams in First Trailer for 'The Book of Love'

Jason Sudeikis & Maisie Williams in First Trailer for 'The Book of Love'

    The Book of Love Trailer

“This is madness!” “No it’s not!” Freestyle Releasing has unveiled a trailer for an indie film titled The Book of Love, formerly known as The Devil and the Deep Blue Sea when it first premiered. The story is about an introverted architect name Henry, played by Jason Sudeikis, who befriends a homeless teen and helps her build a boat. That sounds a bit weird, but obviously it’s a quirky little indie drama about supporting the (crazy) dreams of others. Maisie Williams stars in this, with Jessica Biel, Mary Steenburgen, Paul Reiser, Orlando Jones and Joshua Mikel. This seems to be inspired a bit by the Kon-Tiki story, and it also reminds me of the real story of a girl who sailed around the world – as seen in Maidentrip. Check it out. ›››

    Inner Workings Trailer

Disney has revealed a short trailer for their latest animated short film, Inner Workings, which is playing in front of Moana – the Disney Animation musical in theaters this week. This film is the directorial debut of a story artist at Disney named Leo Matsuda, and it’s an amusing and thoughtful look at life. Similar to Pixar’s Inside Out, it turns various internal organs into characters that control a person. The short also plays with this wonderful idea that there’s more to life than doing the same mundane work as everyone else, and that we need to let loose and trust our heart. This is one of the better shorts that Disney has made recently. Moana is worth seeing anyway, so head to your local theater and watch two great films for the price of one. ›››

  • Official US Trailer for Johnny Ma's Film 'Old Stone' About a Taxi Driver

Official US Trailer for Johnny Ma's Film 'Old Stone' About a Taxi Driver

    Old Stone Trailer

An official US trailer has debuted for a film titled Old Stone, the feature directorial debut of Johnny Ma. If you follow international news, you may remember hearing news stories about how drivers in China will go back and kill people if they accidentally hit them. It’s because the laws over there make it easier for the accused to get away if the person is dead, rather than just injured. Old Stone seems to be the first film made that examines one of these incidents. It’s described as an intense “psychological thriller” about a taxi driver battling bureaucracy and legal manipulation in China. This premiered at TIFF and Berlin to mostly positive reviews, and it looks like it’ll leave your head spinning. Starring Chen Gang, Nai An & Wang Hongwei. ›››

Watch: Third Trailer for Russian Alien Arrival Action Movie 'Attraction'

    Attraction Trailer

How does this looks so awesome?! Another trailer has debuted for Russian alien arrival movie Attraction, or Prityazhenie, about a giant craft that crash lands in Russia. We featured two original trailers for this a few months ago, and this new trailer has even more footage of the alien creatures and their spacecraft. The film stars Oleg Menshikov, Alexander Petrov, Rinal Mukhametov and Irina Starshenbaum. It’s made by the same guy who made Stalingrad and will be presented in IMAX 3D (at least in Russia) when it opens. The action really ramps up near the end, and it actually looks impressive. The VFX are better than most Hollywood movies, and the whole thing has an epic feeling to it. I’m excited to see this! Might be good. ›››

    Rogue One TV Spots

“Save the Rebellion! Save the dream!” Disney + Lucasfilm have debuted two more action-packed TV spots for Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, which hits theaters in less than a month now. Tickets have already started to go on sale (beginning in the UK) and anticipation is about to hit its peak. I’ve already seen more than enough footage for this, I just want to be sitting in a theater watching the movie already. It will be that day soon, very soon. This stars Felicity Jones as Jyn Erso, plus Mads Mikkelsen, Donnie Yen, Ben Mendelsohn, Forest Whitaker, Diego Luna, Jonathan Aris, Riz Ahmed & Alan Tudyk. There’s a few more shots in each of these spots, but it’s mostly all about hyping up the crowds now. Fire ’em up below. ›››
