    I Am Michael Trailer

“I just feel like something shook me and woke me up.” “And that someone is God?” Brainstorm Media has released an official trailer for the film titled I Am Michael, which first premiered at the 2015 Sundance Film Festival nearly two years ago. The film is finally getting released in January, a few months after Justin Kelly’s other film King Cobra hit art house cinemas. I Am Michael tells a dramatized version of the true story of a man named Michael Glatze, who renounced his homosexuality after discovering religion. James Franco stars, along with Zachary Quinto as his boyfriend, and a cast including Emma Roberts, Daryl Hannah, Charlie Carver and Leven Rambin. This actually looks quite good, might need to check it out. ›››

Interview: 'La La Land' Director Damien Chazelle on Making a Musical

    Damien Chazelle Interview

“I wanted the movie to be a love letter to not just dreams, but to the kinds of dreams that society often mocks.” He’s only 31 years old, but has already made two of my favorite movies. Damien Chazelle is the writer/director of Guy and Madeline on a Park Bench, Whiplash (from 2014) and this year’s La La Land, an exuberant and exciting musical that is my #1 movie of the year. La La Land premiered to rave reviews at the Venice, Telluride, and Toronto Film Festivals this fall and is now playing in theaters nationwide. I was lucky enough to catch up with Chazelle at the Telluride Film Festival and sit down to talk about making La La Land. I was still on a high from the movie, and was very excited to chat with him about everything – from Ryan Gosling’s piano playing, to capturing Los Angeles, to making sure this success doesn’t go to his head. ›››

How to Be a Latin Lover Trailer

“I can’t believe what comes out of your mouth!” Pantelion Films has debuted a trailer for a comedy titled How to Be a Latin Lover, which features an impressive cast and is actually the feature directorial debut of actor Ken Marino (who has been directing episodes of “Childrens Hospital” and “Burning Love” before this). Eugenio Derbez stars as the titular “Latin lover” who spends most of his time wooing wealthy older women, but ends up dumped and is forced to move in with his sister – who just so happens to be played by Salma Hayek. While living with her, he bonds with her nerdy son, Hugo, played by Raphael Alejandro. The rest of the cast includes Kristen Bell, Raquel Welch, Mckenna Grace, Rob Lowe, Michael Cera, Michaela Watkins, Rob Corddry, Rob Riggle, Rob Huebel & Renée Taylor. This looks fun… maybe. ›››

Review: 'Assassin's Creed' is the Best Video Game Adaptation So Far

    Assassin's Creed Review

Assassin’s Creed is the best film adaptation of a video game we’ve ever seen. Granted, that’s not exactly a huge wall to scale. The world of video games adapted to the big screen has had more valleys than peaks, and problematic films like Silent Hill and Resident Evil are considered the best this brand of movie making has to offer. Cult status has been kind to movies like Super Mario Bros. and Mortal Kombat in recent years, but even those fall into the category of fun rather than good. Leave it to a filmmaker like Justin Kurzel (of Snowtown and Macbeth) to show how it’s done. With breathtaking visuals, commendable performances, and an unconventional story Assassin’s Creed handily Parkours its way up through the ranks to come out ›››

  • Official US Trailer for Oliver Hirschbiegel's WWII Thriller '13 Minutes'

Official US Trailer for Oliver Hirschbiegel's WWII Thriller '13 Minutes'

    13 Minutes Trailer

“Someone has to stop this madness.” Sony Pictures Classics has debuted the official US trailer for Oliver Hirschbiegel’s film 13 Minutes, about the true story of an German man who tried to kill Hitler by planting a bomb in Munich in 1939. German actor Christian Friedel plays Georg Elser, an intelligent young man who decided to build a bomb from random materials he could find and planted it at a venue Hitler was about to speak at. The event ended early, and Hitler left the building 13 minutes before the bomb went off, escaping narrowly. The film profiles Elser and his time before the war, exploring his motives and desires for this plot. I saw this film way back at the Berlin Film Festival in early 2016, and I thought it was fantastic. I’m sad it has taken two years to get released, but I hope some people give it a chance. It’s worth your time. ›››

  • Intense New International Trailer for Martin Scorsese's Film 'Silence'

Intense New International Trailer for Martin Scorsese's Film 'Silence'

    Silence International Trailer

“The price for your glory is their suffering.” A new full-length international trailer has arrived for Martin Scorsese’s Silence, which will be quietly opening in select cinemas in the US starting this Friday. Adapted from Shûsaku Endô’s novel, Silence is about two priests who travel to Japan in the 17th century in order to figure out what is happening there. They discover Japan is opposed to Catholicism and removing anyone supporting it. Adam Driver and Andrew Garfield star. Liam Neeson and Ciarán Hinds also play two priests, with a Japanese cast including Tadanobu Asano, Shin’ya Tsukamoto, Yôsuke Kubozuka, Issei Ogata and Yoshi Oida. Early buzz says that this is one of Scorsese’s best, more meditative and quiet than his usual work, but with so much to say (especially about religion and faith). Now this is a great trailer. ›››

Watch: Wes Anderson Announces Next Stop-Motion Film 'Isle of Dogs'

    Isle of Dogs

I’m so excited to see this! Every time I’m reminded that, right now as I type this, Wes Anderson is in the middle of making a brand new, stop-motion animated film (in the same vein as Fantastic Mr. Fox) entirely about DOGS, I pretty much go nuts. I love dogs! I love Fantastic Mr. Fox! I love Wes Anderson’s movies! A video has debuted on the service CrowdRise featuring Wes Anderson announcing the film, titled Isle of Dogs. Included in the video is one quick first look shot of the main dog Rex, voiced by Edward Norton, who also makes an appearance in this video. On the website, you can also see a bit of the concept art – mainly a Japanese man beneath some Japanese text, as well as, of course, a dog face. I hope we get to see more soon. ›››

    War on Everyone Trailer

“So what are we going to do about those two?” Don’t miss this! Saban Films has released one more trailer for the vulgar, hilarious indie comedy War on Everyone, from Calvary director John Michael McDonagh. Alexander Skarsgård and Michael Peña star as two corrupt cops from New Mexico who end up battling a British Lord, played by Theo James, who comes to town for his own piece of the pie. We’ve already featured a few different trailers for this, but another one won’t hurt. Especially because I feel like this film is going to be lost in the mix, and it’s going to end up a cult favorite in a few years, and everyone is going to say “why did I take so long to see this?” Well, now is the chance to add it to your calendar – opening in February. ›››
