John Travolta as a Drug Trafficker in Trailer for Crime Film 'Speed Kills'

    Speed Kills Trailer

“I don’t owe anybody, anything.” Saban Films has debuted a new official trailer for an action crime drama titled Speed Kills, based on a book by Arthur J. Harris. This oddly premiered as a VR Experience, a feature film presented entirely as a VR feature, and it won the top award at a film festival earlier this year. John Travolta stars in this action-packed true story of an ‘80s speedboat champion and multimillionaire caught between the mob and the law. The impressive full cast includes Katheryn Winnick, Matthew Modine, James Remar, Kellan Lutz, Jennifer Esposito, Tom Sizemore, Jordi Molla, Michael Weston, Moran Atias, and Amaury Nolasco. By now we all know that Travolta isn’t really making any good films anymore, and this looks to be staying true to that. I’m glad they’re not trying to still push the VR experience. ›››

Official US Trailer for 'Invisible Essence: The Little Prince' Documentary

Invisible Essence: The Little Prince Trailer

“A story becomes universal when something is also personal.” The Orchard has released a lovely official trailer for a documentary called Invisible Essence: The Little Prince, an examination of the literary profundity of, and a closer look at the author behind, the beloved book The Little Prince. The film presents a fascinating new look into the genius of The Little Prince, published as Le Petit Prince, as well as the life and experiences of French writer Antoine de Saint-Exupéry, who first published the book in 1943. The film features appearances by Rupi Kaur, Mark Osborne, Adam Gopnik, Stacy Schiff, Éric Emmanuel Schmitt, Olivier d’Agay, and François d’Agay. This honestly looks rather wonderful, I’m very curious to check it out. ›››

    Oh Baby Music Video

“Please wake me, For my love lies patiently…” Need something to cleanse your palette inbetween trailers? Watch this fantastic short film music video for LCD Soundsystem’s song “oh baby“. Even though this video has been out for a few weeks, you can still enjoy it, especially if you haven’t seen it yet. The music video is directed by Rian Johnson, yes, Rian – director of The Last Jedi – Johnson who went off and made this in the midst Star Wars work. The music video plays as a short film, about a couple who invent a teleportation device. Starring Sissy Spacek and David Strathairn. This is really wonderful but quite tragic, I must say. ›››

  • Get a Glimpse at Claire Denis' Sci-Fi 'High Life' in First Teaser Trailer

Get a Glimpse at Claire Denis' Sci-Fi 'High Life' in First Teaser Trailer

    High Life Teaser Trailer

Wild Bunch has debuted the first brief, international teaser trailer for High Life, the latest from acclaimed French director Claire Denis (Beau Travail, 35 Shots of Rum, White Material, Bastards). This low budget sci-fi drama premiered at the Toronto Film Festival, and it’s playing at the New York Film Festival as well. The story is about a man, played by Robert Pattinson, stuck on a spaceship heading to a distant star. He tries to interact with the rest of the crew who are slowly going crazy on the extended voyage. It’s hard to describe this any better than that, and it’s a hard film to figure out. Reactions from the festivals have been divisive, with extreme love and hate for this film. The cast includes Juliette Binoche, André Benjamin, Mia Goth, Lars Eidinger, Agata Buzek, and Claire Tran. This is a very short teaser that doesn’t show much, but at least it’s something as we wait for more marketing and anticipation for this indie sci-fi feature. ›››

  • First Trailer for NYC Drama 'Here & Now' Starring Sarah Jessica Parker

First Trailer for NYC Drama 'Here & Now' Starring Sarah Jessica Parker

    Here and Now Trailer

“What you do is so difficult, but you keep going.” Ambi Distribution has released an official trailer for an indie, life-affirming drama titled Here and Now, which originally premiered at the Tribeca Film Festival earlier this year. The film stars Sarah Jessica Parker as a woman named Vivienne, an established singer / songwriter with a successful music career. On the eve of a major performance, Vivienne receives some life-altering news that causes her to reevaluate her priorities. As she traverses the busy streets of New York City, she tries to balance everything going on in her life and her new priorities. The film’s cast includes Simon Baker, Common, Taylor Kinney, Waleed Zuaiter, with Jacqueline Bisset, and Renée Zellweger. It’s not surprising that this look quite forgettable, and there’s not much buzz about it from Tribeca anyway. ›››

  • Trey Songz in First Full Trailer for Gritty Crime Drama 'Blood Brother'

Trey Songz in First Full Trailer for Gritty Crime Drama 'Blood Brother'

    Blood Brother Trailer

“On these streets, all you have is the guy next to you.” Lionsgate has released an official trailer for an indie crime action-drama titled Blood Brother, the latest film from writer/director John Pogue (Quarantine 2: Terminal and The Quiet Ones). Not to be confused with the award-winning documentary from a few years ago also titled Blood Brother, this film is about an ex-con who takes murderous revenge against childhood friends whom he believes let him take the fall for a crime they committed together. One of the friends, now a cop, risks his life to stop him. Blood Brother stars music artist Trey Songz, along with Jack Kesy, China Anne McClain, Hassan Johnson, Tanee McCall, and Fetty Wap. These kind of crime+action+friends movies are becoming a dime a dozen nowadays, and none of them really seem they’re worth anyone’s time. ›››

Paula Niedert Elliott in Trailer for Indie Horror Comedy 'Clara's Ghost'

    Clara's Ghost Trailer

“Stop making fun of me!” Orion Classics has released the first official trailer for an indie horror comedy of sorts titled Clara’s Ghost, which initially premiered at the Sundance Film Festival earlier this year. I kept hearing some good things about this but haven’t had a chance to catch up with it yet. Set over the course of a single evening in the Reynolds family home in suburban Connecticut, Clara’s Ghost tells the story of Clara Reynolds who, fed up with her self-absorbed showbiz family, finds some solace in and guidance from the supernatural force that she believes is haunting her. The film stars Abby Elliott, Bridey Elliott, Chris Elliott, Isidora Goreshter, Haley Joel Osment, and introducing Paula Niedert Elliott as Clara. This actually looks pretty damn good, something a bit different with all kinds of crazy things going on. See below. ›››

  • Back in the Horror Groove – Jumping Into the 51st Sitges Film Festival

Back in the Horror Groove – Jumping Into the 51st Sitges Film Festival

    Sitges Film Festival

After attending for my first time last year and enjoying every minute of the fest, I’m back in the town of Sitges, Spain (or Catalonia) to kick off the 51st Sitges Film Festival. It’s the Spanish cousin of the Alamo Drafthouse’s Fantastic Fest with all kinds of genre films playing over the next 10 days. Lots of horror and sci-fi and action and more. I’m really excited to be here. I’m really excited to see a bunch of these films. It’s just an excellent film festival, right on the beach, with enthusiastic audiences that love genre films. And this year I decided to stick around the entire time (and not head up to the London Film Festival like last year) so I can fit in more films and enjoy this charming little beach town. Plus it’s October – the perfect time to watch horror movies and discover something new and wild and amazing in the mix. Time to jump right into Sitges. ›››

  • Review: Bradley Cooper's 'A Star is Born' is Soulful Artistic Expression

Review: Bradley Cooper's 'A Star is Born' is Soulful Artistic Expression

    A Star is Born Review

Co-written and directed by actor Bradley Cooper, 2018’s A Star is Born is the third remake of William A. Wellman’s 1937 film, which earned seven Academy Award nominations at the time. George Cukor’s 1954 adaptation, starring Judy Garland and James Mason, was nominated for six. And the 1976 version, starring Barbra Streisand and Kris Kristofferson, earned four. Between the three films, only two Oscars were won: Best Writing (Original Story) in 1938 and Best Original Song in 1977. As producer, director, screenwriter, and star, Cooper is following in Streisand’s footsteps and, if history is any indication, his directorial debut will earn several award nominations, and deservedly so. Not only is Cooper’s A Star is Born the premiere of a filmmaker with a unique voice but it solidifies Lady Gaga as the preeminent entertainer of the day. ›››
