Official Trailer for Amber Tamblyn's Directorial Debut 'Paint it Black'

    Paint it Black Trailer

“I want you to suffer the way I’m suffering now!” Imagination Worldwide has debuted an official trailer for an indie drama titled Paint it Black, the feature directorial debut of actress Amber Tamblyn, who also co-wrote the script, adapting Janet Fitch’s book of the same name. The film stars Alia Shawkat, Alfred Molina, Janet McTeer, Emily Rios, Annabelle Attanasio, John Roberts, and Rhys Wakefield. The story follows Shawkat as Josie, who learns that her boyfriend has died, and she struggles with both grief and his intense, cruel mother, played by McTeer. Tamblyn says: “My hope was to make a movie that was as visually intoxicating as it is psychologically — a true and twisted look at the violent, terrifying, and beautiful subconscious lives of women in the throws of major life changes.” This definitely looks stylish. Take a look. ›››

  • First Trailer for Indie 'Menashe' Set in Brooklyn's Jewish Community

First Trailer for Indie 'Menashe' Set in Brooklyn's Jewish Community

    Menashe Trailer

“Think about what’s best for your son.” A24 has debuted an official trailer for the acclaimed indie drama titled Menashe, a very unique film set entirely within Brooklyn’s ultra-orthodox Jewish community. The film tells the story of a widowed father of a young son, struggling to make ends meet and stay in his kid’s life. His Rabbi has required that his son live with his strict uncle’s family, but Menashe is given one more week to prove he’s a capable parent. Starring Menashe Lustig as Menashe, and Ruben Nyborg. This was filmed in secret in the neighborhood, and is one of the few films that is entirely in Yiddish, preserving the integrity of the culture it’s portraying. This is a good gem to seek out, and has a tender, charming side to it. ›››

    Last Men in Aleppo Trailer

“It’s not about us. The dilemma is our children.” Grasshopper Films has unveiled an official trailer for the acclaimed, award-winning documentary Last Men in Aleppo, taking us deep inside the war in Syria. The film profiles and follows three different founding members of the humanitarian group known as “The White Helmets” (official website), who have stayed behind in Aleppo while the city is still under siege in an effort to save lives. This trailer cuts right down to it, and is a heartrending, harrowing look at how bad the war in Syria has become, and what it’s doing to that country. I missed this at Sundance, where it won the World Cinema Grand Jury Prize, but I’m planning to catch it as soon as it’s released. This should be on your radar. ›››

  • New International Trailer for 'Pirates' Movie 'Dead Men Tell No Tales'

New International Trailer for 'Pirates' Movie 'Dead Men Tell No Tales'

Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales

“He’s coming for you, Jack, to seek revenge.” Disney has released a new international trailer for Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales, directed by the two Norwegian filmmakers who made the film Kon-Tiki. This trailer features plenty of new footage, though the coolest reveal is that this movie has ghost sharks in it. What! There’s also an appearance by Keira Knightley. Johnny Depp is back as Captain Jack, along with Javier Bardem as Captain Salazar who has a vendetta against Jack, plus Geoffrey Rush as Barbossa. The full cast includes Brenton Thwaites, Kaya Scodelario, Orlando Bloom, David Wenham, Kevin McNally, Golshifteh Farahani, and more. Disney’s marketing is actually getting my attention, but I’m still not sure if I’ll go see this. There’s also a 5 minute preview playing before GOTG Vol 2. ›››

  • Bryan Cranston Sulks in His Attic in First Trailer for Indie 'Wakefield'

Bryan Cranston Sulks in His Attic in First Trailer for Indie 'Wakefield'

    Wakefield Trailer

“Suburban life. So much is the same, week after week. Who hasn’t had the impulse to put their life on hold for a moment?” IFC Films has unveiled a trailer for an indie drama titled Wakefield, from writer/director Robin Swicord. This first premiered at the Telluride and Toronto Film Festivals last fall, to fairly mediocre reviews unfortunately. Bryan Cranston stars as a New York City lawyer living in the suburbs who has a nervous breakdown and decides to leave his family and hide out in his attic. The full cast includes Jennifer Garner, Beverly D’Angelo, Jason O’Mara, Ian Anthony Dale, Pippa Bennett-Warner, and Ellery Sprayberry. I like this trailer. It plays like a short film, but I’m not sure how much else there is to this film. ›››

  • Alison Brie, Aubrey Plaza, Kate Micucci in First 'The Little Hours' Trailer

    The Little Hours Trailer

“The girls can be tough. I’m not going to lie, they can be very tough.” Gunpowder & Sky has revealed the first red band trailer for a wacky comedy titled The Little Hours, which first premiered at the Sundance Film Festival this year. Alison Brie, Aubrey Plaza and Kate Micucci star as three dirty, horny nuns in this comedy. Everything seems fine at their convent until Father Tommasso brings on new hired hand, a virile young servant forced into hiding by his angry lord. John C. Reilly and Dave Franco also star, along with Nick Offerman, Fred Armisen, Molly Shannon, Jemima Kirke, Paul Reiser, Adam Pally. This looks totally nuts. And I love that quote from Catholic League in the trailer: “It is trash. Pure trash.” ›››

  • First Trailer for Trapped Inside a Shark Cage Movie '47 Meters Down'

First Trailer for Trapped Inside a Shark Cage Movie '47 Meters Down'

    47 Meters Down Trailer

“How deep are we?” “47 meters.” “I’m so scared!” Another scary shark horror movie? Why not! A trailer has debuted online for a film titled 47 Meters Down, about two sisters who are trapped inside a shark cage at the bottom of the ocean. This seems just a little bit freakier than The Shallows, considering they’re trapped underwater, inside a shark cage, with only so much oxygen left before they run out. Mandy Moore and Claire Holt star, with a cast including Matthew Modine, Yani Gellman, and Santiago Segura. This looks exactly like you would expect – there’s no surprises here. I’m curious if they’ll keep the “47 Meters” title for America, since most aren’t familiar with meters, but it works (and FYI, 47 meters = 154 feet). Enjoy. ›››

  • First Trailer for Action Thriller 'American Assassin' with Dylan O'Brien

First Trailer for Action Thriller 'American Assassin' with Dylan O'Brien

    American Assassin Trailer

“He’s ready, Stan.” “He’s not ready…” Lionsgate has debuted the first trailer for an action thriller film titled American Assassin, adapted from Vince Flynn’s novel of the same name. The film tells the story of Mitch Rapp, an “ordinary every day all-American athlete and scholar” who is secretly recruited by the CIA after his girlfriend is killed. He becomes one of the best assassins they’ve ever seen, but gets into big trouble on an assignment in Beirut. The Maze Runner star Dylan O’Brien plays Mitch, and the rest of the cast includes Michael Keaton, Taylor Kitsch, Sanaa Lathan, Scott Adkins, David Suchet, and Shiva Negar. This looks like a solid action thriller, a bit jingoistic, but that’s expected nowadays. Might be worth a watch. ›››

    Alien: Covenant TV Spots

“You hear that?” It’s almost time. 20th Century Fox has released two promo spots for Ridley Scott’s Alien: Covenant, his follow-up to Prometheus and return to the Alien universe. These new spots are labeled as “Crew Messages”, and are essentially video recordings from the crew itself. One of them features Katherine Waterston as Daniels, the other one features Billy Crudup as Christopher Oram. The full cast includes Michael Fassbender, Danny McBride, Carmen Ejogo, Callie Hernandez, Demián Bichir, Jussie Smollett, Uli Latukefu, Benjamin Rigby, and Amy Seimetz. The footage starts out with each of them talking to the camera, but then cuts in with POV footage of them on the mission until things go awry and the transmission ends. These are pretty cool, a good way to continue to keep us hyped for this movie. See below. ›››

  • Official Trailer for Comedy 'I Love You Both' Starring Kristin Archibald

Official Trailer for Comedy 'I Love You Both' Starring Kristin Archibald

    I Love You Both Trailer

“Who is this person? Has Donny approved of him?” Magnolia Pictures has debuted an official trailer for an indie comedy titled I Love You Both, from writer/director Doug Archibald. The film follows two twins, Krystal and Donny, who have been codependent their entire lives, still living together in a converted one bedroom house. They both meet and start dating the same nice guy, and are forced to figure out what to do with their lives on their own. Kristin Archibald and Doug Archibald star as Krystal and Donny, along with Lucas Neff as Andy, Artemis Pebdani, Angela Trimbur, Kate Berlant, Justin Michael Terry, and Charlene Archibald. This looks quirky and spunky and sweet, but hopefully not too campy. Have fun. ›››
